  1. That's an awesome memory. My grandfather used to take me cruising in the Hill Country in his big ass Buick. (I was just a prop so he could get out of the house to have a few pops without Mema hounding him.) Beer of choice was Pearl, with a small brick of chewing tobacco he'd gnaw on. We were on a dirt road one time and he said, "Boy, get out there and move that rock, don't want to puncture my tire." My young dumbass self was happy as hell to jump out into 105 degree heat and do it. As I got older and looked back on that drive I always chuckled. He was either too drunk or too lazy to just move the damn wheel and drive around it. Probably both.
  2. As posted above, go with the lowest fee state. We also use Utah. https://my529.org Mormons are indeed sneaky and suspicious, so you may want to consult a financial consultant.
  3. I was thoroughly entertained, as were my teenage kids. The movie was dumb as shit, the acting horrible. But I went in expecting all that, just wanted Monster v Monster battles as I recalled as a kid. It did the job, but took it to another level with CGI and better fights. Just a personal anecdote, but I think the demise of theaters is premature. There was a palpable excitement with my kids, and in the crowd in general. May not ever reach pre COVID levels, but from my one off there's still a demand for the physical theater experience.
  4. ^^^ Same. I waited for a J&J opening, and it finally opened up yesterday. 24 hours later no effects, nada. I wonder if reactions to the vaccines have anything to do with having/not having antibodies. Meaning those with no reaction got Covid asymptomatically in the past and have them, where those who were never exposed to Covid don't have them. My wife was sick in March last year and she didn't test positive until a week or so after symptoms hit hard. So I was fully exposed for an extended period but had nothing. Who knows, just spitballin.
  5. I liked it. Kiind of like a what if Terrence Malick shot a movie about a middle aged extra from Hoosiers.
  6. Duran Duran is a good call. I did one of those pre-college Eurorail trips in the late 80s.. We were drinking with some Brits in a hostel when The Reflex came on. My buddy said "Turn it up, love that song." One of the Brits looked him with utter contempt, "Are you a pre-pubescent girl?" I've kept my appreciation of some of their songs under wraps since. But I'm now strong enough to admit this one:
  7. Yeah I may have missed the 'awkwardness' part and just went straight for a standard Larry David interaction.
  8. Haha this just happened to me a couple of days ago. We have a bunch of cars (username yadda yadda) so garage and driveway is full. To park in front of our house I have to navigate a cul de sac to turn around and hit the spot. I'm coming back from buying a few groceries, there's a plumber's truck in the cul de sac to my right as I start my left turn, so the radius is cut a bit. On the last part of the left turn I notice some dude is in the street doing fucking jumping jacks. I figure I can make it without reversing and do it no problem. I exist with groceries in tow. Jumping Jack: Hey man, you were really close to me. That was unnecessary. Me: WTF are you talking about? JJ: I was exercising here and you just drove past me. Me: Yes I did, what's your point? JJ: You drive dangerously. I've seen you do this to other people in the past. Me: I've never seen you in my fucking life, and I've lived here for 20 years. JJ: You should know better if you've lived here that long. There was no need to cut it that close. Me: A) see that fucking truck, it cuts an already close radius even closer. B) I wasn't even close to you and C) you're exercising in the goddamn street. JJ: Pedestrians have the right of way in the street. Me: (almost yelling). When they're in a fucking crosswalk. My ice cream is melting, continue on with your fucking jumping jacks. Had to check a few times to make sure he didn't vandalize my car.
  9. That was pretty cool. Seems like a solid dude. The BB gun story was funny, especially the full on barricading. I get it, the college me was into bottle rocket and roman candle fights, but actual metal projectiles? Pass.
  10. Wild, had no idea a thread existed on here about WSL. I was introduced to it in Maui at our timeshare a few years ago; there's a surfing channel that shows competition 24/7. I found it incredibly interesting and relaxing. I don't smoke pot (makes me paranoid) but I imagine that's what it's like for people that do. Something about the announcers delivery also lends to the relaxed vibe, even though the athleticsm of the surfers is off the charts. Anyway you can stream it on your computer. Think the next up is in April.
  11. I streamed Minari on APrime this weekend. Thought the acting was outstanding, especially granny. Just as I was getting into the story, boom, it ended. WTF. It needed at least another 20/30 minutes to flesh out the storyline. Maybe it's an indie film thing, take a snapshot of something and not be too on the nose, but I was disappointed.
  12. I popped a tendon in my right hand. Jerking lefty was no problem, just took practice to get the right motion. Felt like I was cheating on my right, but I got over it.
  13. Ordered some seafood from Maine for a little feast this weekend. Hello guys, how was your flight? Throw in some oysters Shucking oysters suck, I need a break Mussels in garlic white wine sauce Thank you Lobster Gods, for your plentiful bounty
  14. I may have read the article in the OP too quickly, but I didn't catch where she actually made the argument that private schools are indefensible. I caught some anecdotes about entitled shithead parents, and that Ivy schools accept more private school applicants. I'll skip the 10,000 word treatise and point out the obvious: people with means tend to seek out the better things in life because they can afford it. News at 11. Education for their children is just one of those things. I'm sure there are great public schools out there, and if we had that option, we'd take a hard look at them. But unfortunately we don't, so we suck it up and pay the astronomical tuition for a school similar to the one in the article. It stings when I sign the check every year, but I sleep easy knowing it's my best investment. I'm responsible for giving my kids the tools necessary to be decent human beings and succeed in the world once they fly the coop, and the private school we chose is doing exactly that. I'm a public shool kid. It was fine, but it didn't do much to prepare me for college, and in turn, the competive world after. I'd like my kids to be better prepared than I was. On the diversity front, maybe it's just our school, but part of our tuition goes to support a good chunk of scholarships. There are kids from all sorts of socio economic backgrounds, and for that I am glad.
  15. Sheeeeit, you haven't even seen the gay albino weight lifter, the ill tempered 300-pound-of-muscle American Indian, or psycho/MMA poindexter. Banshee is fucking awesome from beginning to end. Good town, bad blood.
  16. I like a lot of Alexander Payne's movies. Election, About Schimdt, Sideways, The Descendants.
  17. Just finished it. Room got dusty. This is a slow burn, and zman descibes it well. Highly recommend.
  18. I lightly follow news of Cruz and I'm baffled how a person like this continues to exist in public. No one likes him, he continually makes stupid statements and actions that show him as a fool, he lies as a reflex, and has seemingly no motivation to exist other than become President for the MAGA crowd. I guess I'm just awed by the lack of shame. It's truly amazing, his ability to take nuclear abuse and not flinch, just move forward with the same bullshit. Thanks GQP I guess.

    The Police

I have a buddy that's a PE teacher at the school Copeland sends his kids to. About ten years ago Copeland hired him to teach his son how to ride a bike. I found that really odd. I mean, isn't that supposed to be a rite of passage between father and son? Ever since whenever I see him being interviewed he strikes me as an asshole. *Side note* You Police fans should check out Sting's solo "Ten Summoner Tales." It's excellent, highly recommend.
  20. That was the reason for the question. Is there really any downforce help with a wing that high.?
  21. Mopar I assume that wing was just for show and didn’t actually do anything- Am i wrong on that?
  22. 69/70 muscle farts in your general direction
  23. I’ve been in a rental car on business last three days. Apparently the new Killers song is popular since they play it a dozen times a day. I fucking hate it. To the point of turning the radio off. I don’t think I’ve ever been angry at a song since We Built This City but this is it.
