  2. Two of my best high school friends were Northern Irishmen who moved back home afterwards, to I started in Cork and worked my way north to visit them for a St. Patrick's Day in Coleraine/Portstewart, and I've been to Dublin on work travel as well. Every country on earth tries to tell you they have the friendliest, most hospitable people, but Ireland is the only one telling the truth, and I say that as someone with zero Irish ancestry. What a wonderful place.
  3. Every time I see what's happening on the other Texas boards, I regret it
  4. Bill Connolly's full cfb power rankings chart - looks like Stanford is predicted to be the third-worst P4 school (Purdue fucking blows, yikes - sorry not sorry for swiping Brevard. NWU down there too is a bad look for the Big 10)
  5. I think it was in the fall camp thread. It fucking slaps, no doubt.
  6. That is the Aloha Stadium site, but it's definitely a pie-in-the-sky image for promotional purposes. Looks like the big news is that they started actually signing contracts: https://www.khon2.com/sports/contracts-executed-for-new-aloha-stadium/
  7. Aloha Stadium was condemned a couple years ago (the state of Hawaii is not famous for their approach to preventative maintenance), so they had to move on short notice. In fun news, the replacement just got approved:
  8. Props to the K-State graphics department for actually having some fun with going to Ireland (ISU barely did anything unique so far)
  9. An FYI, Hawaii is actually favored at home against Stanford this weekend. They're bad, but they're comparable to the worst ACC team, which is funny.
  10. We're so back. And just like every year, college football sends us a lovely amuse bouche with Week Zero. A note: there's some football product in mid-afternoon, but go for a walk and see your families instead. It's not worth it. #17 Kansas State (-3) vs. #22 Iowa State @ Dublin, Ireland (12 ET / 11 CT ESPN): Let's begin with a ranked rivalry game from the shores of the Irish Sea. Last year's Aer Lingus Kickoff was a barnstormer that presaged the 2024 FSU Seminoles as one of college football's all-time wet farts and Georgia Tech as a surprising ACC contender. This year the cornfed masses of Middle America descend on Dublin to watch two serious contenders for the Big XII title. Matt Campbell has another strong Cylcones squad. Rocco Becht returns, though he loses his elite WR corps to the NFL. The defense should be nasty, and Jon Heacock is one of the best minds in college football. Chris Kleiman thinks this is the year K-State can finally break through the 9-4 ceiling. Avery Johnson and Dylan Edwards are a great 1-2 punch for his offense, and their defense, especially the LBs led by Austin Romaine should be able to make Becht's life miserable. Smart coaches, good players, this should be a fun start to the season. I'll tip K-State in a low scoring battle. Fresno State @ Kansas (-12.5) (6:30 ET / 5:30 CT FOX): It's an alternate (and in some ways even more agricultural) Farmageddon in KU's mostly upgraded stadium. Love the wheat endzones. KU has Jalon Daniels back with some fun weapons to play with - Emmanuel Henderson from Bama and Bryson Canty from Columbia were highly sought-after WRs and Daniel Hinshaw is much-hyped to have a breakout season with Devin Neal gone. Matt Entz takes the reins in the Valley after Jeff Tedford stepped down, arriving from NDSU. As is tradition these days for coaching turnover, FSU flipped a quarter of its roster through the Portal and Kurt Warner's son EJ will be starting at QB. They will probably not be in good enough shape to handle a well-coached P4 team, but Leipold has dropped a season opener to South Dakota before. This is also the Bulldogs' last season in the MWC before they join the Zombie Pac-whatever. Sam Houston State @ Western Kentucky (-10) (7 ET / 6 CT CBS): CUSA action! These are likely to be two of the top four teams in the conference, so it's a surprisingly important game in Bowling Green (famous for Mammoth Cave National Park, and being the home of Corvette production). Stanford @ Hawaii (-2.5) (7:30 ET / 6:30 CT CBS): Is this a great game? No. Is it a G5 school in a beautiful location favored at home against a P4 with a really snooty fanbase? Yes. Enjoy the car crash.
  11. I think the tornado bird would be a fun 90s throwback alternate, but it's a pretty garish design to be the primary logo. A redrawn version with a better wordmark might be cool.
  12. North Carolina and Virginia are plenty chilly enough for a bomber jacket for October night games (not to mention Cuse and BC)
  13. It sounds like your English teacher had good taste and high hopes that you did not live up to. I'm reading Steinbeck's Travels with Charley in Search of America right now.
  14. ASU might be fully operational under Dillingham by that point. Not an easy out (as we know).
  15. Everyone knows highly rated but lightly seen sophomore OL are completely cooked and will never contribute
  16. ....well that's a unique take, from the misspelled name onwards
  17. You've got to finish the fantasy!
  18. I don't know if I've ever seen a lazier article subject
  19. Speaking of AKHSFB, if you follow College Football Campus Tour at all, he's in Utqiagvik, AK for Redington vs Barrow this weekend, aka the northernmost high school football game in the world
  20. That's awesome. Raleigh's grown so fast, and having a Southern college football experience ten minutes from downtown is a huge benefit. I used to do a running loop from the state capitol around the State Belltower. The club hockey team (which is surprisingly popular due to the Hurricanes being the one pro team in town) crushed it with these recently for their game against UNC:
  21. As someone said in the Recruiting thread, if you started doing that the national championship chart would look like a star map. Nobody really remembers after a few years.
  22. I'd bite your hand off. The punishment is pretty much just money our donors would cover in a second.
