I hope Leal follows the Sterns path and shows up out of the blue on campus and flips.
I'd love it, but that was Sterns' first time getting the UT pitch/experience. Leal's already seen almost everything and still decided gomerville was his move.

I figured we’d have 1 or 2 public commitments from last weekend even though the coaches seemingly weren’t prioritizing it, so now I’m jonesing for someone to pull the trigger.
Watson on May 1st, then probably a couple on the big May 4th weekend, imo (keeping in mind Nana is 5/19 and not counting Wilson, who I don't want to get my hopes up on).

TFB saying Tyler Johnson set his OV, I'm assuming for the mega 5/4-6 weekend

thats how I see the new batch working out
Good thoughts. I'd switch Carson and Williams though - Carson's already played DL and Williams was QB (!) for his HS.

Hah, didn't realize there was another Ehlinger:

So glad we got our QB already and so glad Tom signed two blue chippers last year. Don't have to stress about this.
Brace yourself for next year, where we have to decide whether or not a Lake Travis kid that will likely have gaudy stats is our QB take. It's going to be a nightmare, even if we get the dream take in Bryce Young.

Christian Harris is coming this weekend

Rising and Thompson both looked good but I’m not going to get my hopes up.
Realistically Shane probably transfer next season and if ehlinger is still qb1 I bet only one of Thompson/Rising stays. That’s just the way it is these days. If QBs don’t win the job they usually transfer quickly. If ehlinger is QB 1 for 3 more years hard to see Rising/Thompson staying. Which leaves RoJo, if he is willing to stay as RS sophomore.RoJo is supposed to be equally as much of a Longhorn diehard as Sam - it would take a whole lot for him to transfer that early.

Surprised no mention of the coaches heading down the road to see Leal.
Backing off right after a commit is normal. You want to make them miss you, not go for the desperate ex vibe.

I think Orlando was out there today.
He was. Beck was too, evaluating QBs.

I think you overestimate how important a "national brand" is to a 17 year old kid, versus the relationship building talent of the coach(es) recruiting him.
Lane Kiffin's staff at FAU is full of tremendous recruiters - he and Baby Briles are two of the best in the game. He's still only pulling in mostly 3-stars and rounding his class out with 2-stars.
At a higher level look at Oregon with Taggert and Cristobal - two 100% elite recruiters. Still almost all 3-stars. The brand matters.

Thats true, but by the end of the season, Sam wasnt a freshman any more. And he was still making the same mistakes. He just needs to stop trying to unleash the dragon like Rex Grossman and he will be fine.

I liked the bad baseball "jokes" more than Austin high school smack talk to be honest

Honestly, I don't have the first fucking clue why "down and out" programs don't go this route. Triple option, wing-T, just something different that you can recruit to specifically and give yourself a niche chance of succeeding, rather than trying to beat out the established programs on their own terms. Seems axiomatic to me that Kansas is not going to get better by trying to do the things that the established schools are already doing -- why would any recruit choose them if they are not different in some way?
I would haaaate having a triple-option landmine in the conference. Which means I 100% agree with you, one of the smaller programs should definitely try it.
Same problem as going for it on 4th down for coaches I guess - if it doesn't work out it's really easy to point at the hire as a fireable offense.

The thing about Watson, besides his college play, is that the coaches hopefully have a sense of whether he's 100% after his ACL surgery.

From watching Stripling's tape, he's really freaking good and might be underrated at #110. Regardless, if you're going on Rankings, Leal is 79 natinoally and Stripling is 110; that's not much of a difference. My point is if you're saying Leal is hard to replace, then Stripling should be in that same category. I'm not sure what your expectations are, but if you think the staff can just go OOS and find a DL in the top 100, then you're likely in for disappointment unless we win a ton this year.
We'll likely get Nana in the class this year, which is big, but the other DL we take are not likely to be in the same tier as Stripling.
Probably on the same level as Sweat - good take, but not game-changing.

Lol RoJo being so low is just criminal. Even Perroni loves him.

Just keep recruiting family members: Dicko > Dicko's Cousin > Dicko's Nephew > etc.
