  1. No shit, copper is a pain. Unless you have a domestic staff who can take care of the copper stuff (and re-tin them) don't get it. Looking at you, Lord Grantham. As far as precise temperature control? Ok, but who really needs it? I don't. Maybe there are a lot who are better cooks who do. I like cast iron but it's no bueno for acidic stuff (tomato sauces, etc.) Check out Marshalls or TJMaxx for good stuff that's cheap(er). I like the enamel over cast iron stuff. Or you can get the cheaper non-stick stuff and replace it every 3 years. If you want to put the pot/pan in the oven be sure that what you get can do that.
  2. Cool. The Sunday puzzle is good, but it's just big. It can be engaging at times but sometimes I find it's just bulky. The fun really starts for the NYT puzzle on Thursday through Saturday. Especially Thursday, because that's when the tricky stuff appears (like today). And yeah, I agree, the puzzle has changed a lot with Will Shortz taking over as editor. I think it's for the better. The older puzzles (usually Eugene T. Maleska, if I spelled that correctly) was full of seven letter words of African antelopes and shit like that. Stuff for which you kinda needed a crossword puzzle dictionary. Shortz is much, much more into wordplay. I'm not a rap "music" fan so the clues about that area I usually don't get, but hey, can't have everything.
  3. There are so many good cookbooks (and not so good ones) that if you find one you like stick with it/them. My favs are the first Julia Child cookbook (Mastering the Art of French Cooking); a bunch by Pierre Franey and (sometimes) Craig Claiborne - the NYT used to have a food section called the 60 Minute Gourmet and Franey would post recipes. Those recipes compile a couple of books which I really like. Franey's stuff is basic, simple, yet classic and quite a bit easier than Julia's stuff, imo. The surprise books for me are the ones from various Junior Leagues. I really like the two I have. And of course get a technique one by Jacques Pepin. For reference if nothing else.
  4. Check out today's puzzle in the NYT. Clever.
  5. It shouldn't be (the de facto second national flag), imo. At heart it's just a crass political move, like wearing a US flag lapel pin. We get it: you're a real patriot.
  6. Hmm, good for the person who found it. I never had the impression that it was a scam. After several people died looking for it, and some sheriff said the whole thing was a bad idea, the dude basically said fuck off and that people die doing stuff all the time and this gets their lazy asses out of the house and has them enjoy nature.
  7. Good to see. The (active) military is in a tough spot, but it's nice to see that they have morals and a backbone.
  8. It's all a part of making America great. Again. What part of that don't you get? /sarcasm off
  9. Good post. While I read it I thought I could hear screaming and bullwhips cracking.
  10. So, you're not a fan of Lee? lol Neither am I.
  11. Trump treats the country, and the Dems, like he does his business participants: he is always looking for a way to screw them over. This was well known before the election. He'd stiff his contractors/subs. Fuck Trump and fuck every piece of shit who voted for him.
  12. Stephin Fetchit.
  13. People are bitching b/c Romney is doing the right thing? Dems, gotta love 'em.
  14. Traitors to the US. I made that very clear. To those who can read. And comprehend, that is. Washington was not a traitor to the US. Lee was. I can't dumb that down any more for you.
  15. Maybe I missed something, but when was Washington a traitor to the US? You see, I'm an American, not a Brit. You seem confused about that? I don't think you made the point that you think you did.
  16. My guess is that the fans of Lee (and other confeds) are from the south (deep south, probably) or have strong ties to that region. I'm just not a fan of the deep south. From the pseudo-intellectual (imo) argument using states' rights to justify slavery (and to basically lie about the reason for the civil war- states' rights! not about slavery!) yeah, fuck that, to holding on to the idea that the south was some sort of genteel, noble region. I'm not a fan of the southern baptist church, either. And the current state of the deep south doesn't help matters: still virulently racist in a lot of parts, ignorant, clinging to god and guns. I know a guy who went to VMI a long time ago and they practically worshiped Lee. And Trump has emboldened those dipshits. In a way, that's good b/c we can see who they really are. I'm glad to see that the USMC is prohibiting display of the confed flag (loser laundry). Did Lee do the noble thing by being a leader for the group that wanted to rip apart the US? The noble thing, imo, would have been for him to defend the Union. He was a traitor. He was, of course, a lot more than that. But he was a traitor. I'm not sorry if his statues are coming down.
  17. If that helps you sleep at night, then go for it. I get it, you and others find Lee to be a noble character. And maybe he was. My point is that he was a noble traitor to his country. I'm not a fan of traitors. You are. Is that black and white enough for ya?
  18. Yeah, and there are some who say good things about mafia dons, too. They look after their neighborhood, they help the widows and orphans. Lee was a traitor to America. As such, I cannot call myself a fan of his.
  19. Something about the moral aspect of slavery escaping you?
  20. One thing, Trump is probably very niggardly with his hambergers.
  21. The only people who are more of a gutless motherfucker than the GOP senate are those voters who won't hold Trump or the senate to account.
  22. Elderly. Don't forget elderly.
  23. Will never ever happen, but Mitt Romney.
  24. Wow. College edumacated white men are stupid.
  25. Romney, a Mormon, is by far the most christian of them all. Suck on that you evangelical fucktards.
