  1. The idiot who wrote this has been constantly wrong about Tom Herman and seems to take the proof of his incompetence personally. Connelly refuses to explicitly acknowledge Herman's demonstrated ability to get his team up for the big game. 5-2 vs the top 25 in 2018 and 6=0 at UH. The only exception was with a dysfunctional 2017 Texas rebuilding from 3 straight losing seasons and starting a true freshman QB. The chance of losing a game the Horns shouldn't from the remaining 10 on the schedule makes this knob think a ranking of #31 or even #26 is deserved at 11-1 or even 10-2. I doubt that even an 8-4 Texas is outside the top 25 at the end of the regular season. Yet the same idiot has aggy ranked much higher even though Vegas has them as dogs in 5 games and 7.5 season win O/U compared to 9.5 for Texas. Talk is cheap. The people wagering actual money think Texas is a much better team than Connelly does. They also have an actual stake in the outcome.
  2. On what planet is "completely reasonable" defined as: Texas loses every pick 'em game and 50% of the next 4 where the Longhorns should be favored (on average) by a TD or better?
  3. Yes. He played some slot for Rockwall though he mostly lined up outside at X. I would guess they did so mostly to isolate their best athlete and to maximize the dislocation of the defense if they chose to double him. JSN has excellent quickness, carries speed through his cuts and shows good hands in traffic - all things needed as an H-WR. The first 2 characteristics are on display as he returns punts and weaving through traffic on tunnel screens. JSN also looks pretty tough to bring down (at least at the HS level) which shows when Rockwall uses him as their Wildcat QB.
  4. LSU's RT Deculus is a serious liability in pass pro. Their guards really aren't that good as pass blockers either. IMHO that's one of the main reasons they've switched to a scheme that rarely requires them to pass block.
  5. I cannot even imagine living in a place where Waffle House = Validation for the locals.
  6. Dime as a base against spread teams is going to be nasty. Even more options to cloud up the QB's reads and switch coverage responsibilities even post-snap. All that speed with big hitters like Foster and Overshown on the back end is going to be solid in run support as well. The 404 Tite Front is specifically designed to clog the middle and to spill running plays to the sideline. With 4 safeties on the field, I feel pretty good about the way that pursuit will turn out. My main concern is with teams that can run it vertically with power or simply inside zone. That's what Texas did to ISU last year. They played a light box with 5 and an overhang defender. Everybody else had to arrive from depth and they couldn't get there until the RB was well past the LOS on many occasions.
  7. And there were a lot of fans that wanted to give it to him - no questions asked.
  8. Amen. I want TEXAS to be at full strength for every game. Screw those other guys.
  9. LSU safety Delpit getting tons of praise. https://theathletic.com/1159797/2019/08/26/lsu-football-grant-delpit-safety-profile-all-american-expectations/ Hopefully 1) LSU will buy into the hype and 2) This and other articles will be posted all over the Texas DB Room.
  10. Grinch's 2017 was built almost entirely on the beatings his defense put on some truly putrid offenses: Montana St from the FCS and Nevada (4-8 IIRC) in the G5 MWC. Factor out those games and the pass D goes from #7 to #51. I feel dirty agreeing with katfid.
  11. Hawaii was badly over matched in the speed department. With the large local Polynesian population they are sitting on a gold mine of interior linemen, ILBs, FBs and blocking TEs. For positions that require speed they usually recruit 4th tier players from Cali. Notice how many of their receivers have good hands and quickness but they're not that fast and tend to go 5'8"-5'10" and 170 or so. Against Arizona the defense had trouble with outside zone and an athletic QB. La Tech did the same thing, just using speed to beat the defense to the edge or to split defenders. The Bulldog defense used their speed advantage to penetrate gaps and bring an outside pass rush against powerful but slow UH OTs. La Tech won't have a speed advantage at many positions against Texas.
  12. 4. TCU no longer has the best defensive coaching staff in the league. He might not have the 2nd best staff now. 5. Texas is not only on the rise. The coaches seem to be doing a much better job of evaluating and developing recruits. Those were two areas that TCU exploited in the past to compete with the big name programs. That's going to be harder for them now.
  13. Both Urban Meyer and Ohio St are gutter scum quite independent of one another. Let's not forget that at Florida, Urban not only had Zach Smith on staff but DJ Durkin as well. OSU had the sex predator Dr Richard Strauss running rampant for 20 years - long before Urban's time. That of course is in addition to the sleaze Jim Tressel and the explosive Woody Hayes. It should be no surprise that when the two of them got together the product was epic filth.
  14. I watched the Hawaii Bowl (dad is a UH alum). La. Tech QB Smith mostly just dumped a bunch of short passes that created YAC opportunities against a slow and undersized Hawaii secondary. Had a screen pass and a hitch turn into 50+ yard plays just like that. One completed deep ball. Those 2 plays were 40% of their yardage from 2 of the 31 pass attempts. Their pass rush looked pretty good but I think most of them are gone after last year.
  15. LSU's O-Line is lacking depth but certainly has plenty of width.
  16. https://watchstadium.com/news/zach-smith-sex-toys-ohio-state-offices-staffer-nude-photos-white-house-08-17-2018/ This level of hubris says ZS thought he was bulletproof.
  17. This say it all. They had nothing to gain by helping an abused wife. In fact they had a lot to lose by doing so. The Hermans didn't care; they did the right thing anyway. In the process they drew the ire and spittle flecked hatred of the entire mouth breather OSU fanbase as well as the media who served that mob. Subsequent events show that OSU, its coaching staff and media enablers cared more about winning football games than the health and safety - possibly even the life of Courtney Smith. In sharp contrast Tom and Michelle stood up for her when no one else would. TH is kinda socially awkward. He lets his actions speak for him. And it's clear that when he tells the team to "shut out noise from the outside" those aren't just words. This is a man who will take on a large and powerful institution to support a friend over a matter of principle. You are who your record says you are. In Tom Herman's case that's a good thing.
  18. Looks like Curacao was done as soon as their starter went out. Gotta feel for them. Great defense with some spectacular plays. But they needed every bit of their top pitching to get past Korea then Japan. Took an amazing play by the left fielder to beat Japan even with their best pitchers. The blowout against Virginia allowed Louisiana to get Prather back one last time and that was the difference in this game early on.
  19. I'm here for the Jap Plays.
  20. Makes sense. If you're trying to get him on the PS, he needs to clear waivers first right? If that's the case you don't want any tape of him that might make another team think of signing him to a FA contract.
  21. Waco (I think Midway HS). Went JUCO and ended up in Hawaii. Not a bad landing spot.
  22. "OK. Cool. Hook 'em." The more we know the better it looks as a response to that psychotic douche.
  23. Hurts doesn't have the agility that made both Mayfield and Murray hard to corral. He partly makes up for that with size and good straight line speed. He's not as accurate as either of those guys but he's still reasonably accurate. Hurts will do a decent to good job running Riley's offense. My main questions center around his ability to master the decision making without the RS year that Mayfiled had or the RS plus backup year that Murray did. OU's pass defense should be better if nothing else because they are going to a 1-gap penetrating scheme that makes it easier to transition from run defense to pass rush. OTOH Grinch has shown me repeatedly that his schemes are often not gap sound. The Sooner run D could get worse as a result.
