  1. That can certainly explain the drop from 2012 to 2013 but overall I'd argue that Kaepernick's decline made the OL look much worse. Carlos Hyde had nearly the same YPC in 2016 as peak Frank Gore did in 2012 so blocking wasn't an issue there. Also Blaine Gabbert was a significantly better QB in 2015 than Kaepernick. Let that sink in...
  2. That's the easy answer but only part of the story. Kaepernick lost a step and you could see the impact in rising sacks and INTs as he was less able to escape pressure.
  3. That's the aggy version. They run the Error 404 front. Coverage in the secondary Not Found aka Dixie Chicks defense.
  4. His career trajectory was bad and getting worse. 12-4 at his peak in 2013. Then 8-8, 2-6, 1-10.
  5. The problem for aggy is they have completely screwed themselves. You only gain an advantage cheating if you're competing against honest people. aggy just moved to the most corrupt conference in FBS. Not only is the SEC filled with veteran cheaters, they also know how to deal with anyone who gets too uppity. Look at what happened to Hugh Freeze when he started to threaten the established order. Or for that matter Hal Mumme 20 years ago. The powers of the SEC will not stop aggy from cheating. But they will not hesitate to ruthlessly kneecap A&M if they have too much success at the game. In that respect they were much better of dealing with Texas as the lead dog.
  6. If lack of conscience were a necessary and sufficient condition, every team in the SEC (except Vandy) would play for the NC every year.
  7. If you really want to see their blood pressure spike, just mention that the Horns beat Georgia much more impressively than Alabama did. So obviously Texas would have dominated ANY TEAM in the SEC using the transitive property.
  8. Remember the formula. The prediction has to be far enough away the idiots will mostly have forgotten by the time it was supposed to have happened but close enough to keep the rubes lathered up and chasing.
  9. And OSU is really all we have to go on for Grinch's ability as a recruiter for big time football. Recruiting to Pullman, WA is tough. If you miss on your top 20 guys, you get the #55 class instead of #45. If you miss on the next 20 you end up with a #70 class. How does anyone not specifically focused on WSU determine the impact of one recruiter on that unless he truly stands out? Miss out on your 1st and 2nd guys at tOSU or OU and everybody knows.
  10. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother” ― George Orwell, 1984 or Fish Camp, any year
  11. You’ve heard me refer to this previously in the Sugar Bowl write-ups. UGa uses it as their base defensive front. So does Texas. You’ll see it again from LSU next year on nearly every snap. This is one of the most important trends in FBS defenses today and the importance is only growing. Get used to hearing about it even if it doesn't get as much press as the sexier pass defense schemes. What is it? The Tite Front stars with a 3 man DL that aligns with 4i-0-4i techs. IOW, 2 DEs play inside eye on the OTs and a 0-tech NT. Behind them are 2 ILBs – Mac and Rover in Orlando’s terminology with an OLB (Buck or Jack LB) setting one edge. The other edge is usually controlled by either a 4th LB (Sam) or 5th DB (Nickel Back). Why use it? It shuts down the A-gaps using the NT and one or both ILBs. It threatens both B-gaps with the inside shade 4 techs. It discourages teams from pulling guards due the ability of the 4i DEs to pinch down and follow the guard to the ball. And it does all of that with 5 players, usually leaving a free hitter while spilling runs to the outside. The 4i shade makes it easier to double the DE with the guard and tackle but then you’re likely using 5 OL to block 3 DL, leaving the LBs completely clean. RPOs take advantage of conflicting LB responsibilities. A favorite uses either inside zone or power run with a pass option to the backside slant. The QB reads the backside OLB like a read option. If the LB crashes down, throw the slant instead of a QB keeper since he’s the underneath coverage for that pattern. If the LB stays to the outside, the QB hands off. The 404 Tite Front helps stymie this by spilling the play, forcing the RB to slow down and cut to the outside toward run support from the secondary. The backside OLB (or NB) can hang out there in space to clog the hook/slant zone against the RPO pass. What are the weaknesses? There is no big run stopper to set the edge and control the C-gaps, like a 4-3 DE. The secondary has to come up in run support and be effective once the play is forced outside to them, much like a safety running the lane against the triple option. The critical role as run stoppers can create opportunities for vertical routes over the top. Many teams have judged this tradeoff to be worthwhile to stop the horizontal stretch and shorter vertical stretch aspects of Spread Offense from gashing them on long, sustained drives. There’s a lot of complexity and variation behind the basics. I just wanted to cover the what and why behind the switch to 3 down linemen across FBS so people can see how defenses are adapting to the Spread. 12. Oops. Got confused with the 323 lb dude in the prior post. 😮
  13. Grinch definitely wants quicker guys up front so that could easily have been a factor.
  14. The view in collie station when they find out:
  15. Go back to the source material at Bleacher Report. You'll find aggy at the bottom of that list of 10. Oddly the aggy site completely failed to mention who was sitting directly above them since it would have been a buzz kill for their jizz jar filling session.
  16. Since UNL or its athletic dept is obviously paying the lawyer, any attorney-client privilege would be between the school and the lawyer, not the player and the lawyer. Who is paying is one of the things that should come out in any FOIA request. This part is especially revealing: Sounds like the lawyer accidentally told the truth there before realizing what the cover story was supposed to be.
  17. Exactly. If Herb Hand is looking for depth guys, none of the GTs is likely to willingly accept that role since they've only got 1 season to strut their stuff. I suspect one of the GT OGs is slated to start. As things stand, Tope Imade looks like the only non-freshman backup. If there are 2 GTs ready to commit that Hand likes, then Kerstetter can also backup at multiple positions. If only 1 is a take, start DK and bring Tyler in as an experienced reserve for his first season.
  18. With aggy the question becomes "what is the sound of one hand jacking?" aka "can you help me with this?"
  19. That aggy podcast is pure gold. Around the 27:30 mark one of the hosts is trying to convince the other that aggy will split (2-2) vs Bama, @Clemson, @Georgia and @LSU. The other guy thinks there's only a 25% chance that happens but if it does, aggy's gonna win a NC in 2020. OMG
  20. Indeed. The official timeline make no sense. I'm waiting for the media requests for athletic dept under state open records or FOIA.
