  1. I think it's great the Hermantor is bringing in top classes consistently now. After the way the 2010s started, it's much better for our fanbase to struggle to find things to criticize in an otherwise fantastic set of results.
  2. Playing this in the background for the lulz. I can't believe the stupid nickname thing with these dorks. Referring to Demas as Double-D. <>
  3. "Our forces advanced today without losing a single meter of ground." --- communique from Republican forces during the Spanish Civil War
  4. aggy has always been the safety school for some upper tier recruits. They have always celebrated early, only to watch their prize "commits" slip away for better offers elsewhere. Muting the aggy decommitment cycle was probably the most important thing that Jimbo accomplished in 2019. He only lost 2-3 valuable guys instead of the usual 8-10. Of course now we see the balance of power being restored in Texas for 2020 and I expect that aggy will go back to its traditional status as safety school for a lot of good players waiting on better things.
  5. Technically, Mike Leach is a Mormon so...
  6. I remember a quote during the peak Mack Brown era: "Texas doesn't recruit. They select." It was never literally true; there was always a lot of work involved. But that was a reasonable approximation of the final product. It almost seems like the program is getting back to those days. Recruits talk again about the family atmosphere of the program and this time I feel confident the coaches are going to put the players in position to succeed in each game.
  7. "Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational Longhorn Program!"
  8. I don't know but this guy is not impressed:
  9. The good news for aggy is that so many elite players are committing early to The University of Texas. They should be able to see which leftovers Jimbo gets to choose from much earlier than usual this recruiting cycle.
  10. Meaning they're not inbred with weak bladders like pedigreed cocker spaniels?
  11. Depends on which Urban Meyer we are talking about: the Type A, screaming coach foaming at the mouth? Or the passive-aggressive, hypochondriac little bitch?
  12. Yep. We try to keep it contained to the Cloak Room PRECISELY because there is such a wide range of political views among our alumni and fan base.
  13. Seems like it might have started earlier than that. I'm sure that Herman knew that meeting with Nick Saban and Kirby Smart in Tuscaloosa just a few weeks after he left Columbus would piss off Urban Meyer. Just as obviously Herman didn't give a crap. That would be a very short window for Urban's envy of the credit being given to Herman souring a previously healthy relationship.
  14. With the recent success, Texas is able to both cast a wider net and work on recruiting more of the time-intensive top blue chips. Herman could either spread BC thinner over a bigger number of recruits or give him more help. Samples was brought in about a year ago - almost the same time as Herb Hand. He was needed so the staff could maintain the same level of personal contact with a bigger pool of recruits. Herman already knew Samples from his playing day and if the results are any indication, he's looking like a great assistant to BC but I haven't heard of anyone that could replace Carrington.
  15. LSU already made a run at BC last year. That got stopped dead in its tracks.
  16. Yep. Contrast that with the way Tom Herman handled the situation with Shane Buechele. That could easily have gone very badly but he was honest with Shane, did everything he could to preserve the redshirt and got strong effort in return and a good outcome for everyone.
  17. https://www.sacbee.com/news/business/article212449489.html Apparently half of the population in the Bay Area want out. Why should football players be any different?
  18. I don't think Urban liked what happened when he got into a pissing match with Tom Herman I suspect that Zach Smith liked the result even less. Herman will go to bat for a friend and the abused wife of a former co-worker. Think he wouldn't do even more for the guys on his team?
  19. Agreed. Just don't undersell how bad some of those defenses were too.
  20. True. But he described Riley as a good dude. When he talked about Tom Herman, he also was very enthusiastic about the Texas Defense and his potential role in it. OU's got nothing to sell on that front other than "you would make us suck less."
  21. The NFL is all about $$$. It's pretty rare that a player becomes an immediate star - usually take a year or two to put their stamp on the game and for fans to notice. For a lot of RBs that means they are halfway through their career by the time they become big stars. The longer careers of QBs and WRs mean they have much greater marketing value to an NFL franchise. Not only can they be the face of the franchise several times longer than a typical RB. They also don't have to reinvest every 2-3 years in creating a brand for a new guy at the position. Lower investment expense. Longer payout period. More time to build mindshare for your product. It's a huge difference in ROI.
  22. Not on the short list. But aggy is always on the short bus...
  23. Every team that is ranked higher has more commits than Texas. Only 4 of those teams have a higher average player ranking. That is utterly ridiculous when Texas has focused on getting OL and the degree to which recruiting services tend to rank them low. It's going to be insane once the proportion of skill players and defense (who tend to get higher ratings) in the class rises.
