  1. There is basically one play we run that is the foundation of the play action game, it’s the layered concept to one side of the field where the outside receiver runs a go, number two runs a rail, number three runs a little flat route. But Sark has designed it from 100 different formations and 100 different personnel groups. I mean, Helm converted a 3rd down on it yesterday. It’s genius in its simplicity made to look complex.
  2. Go watch Christian Jones on the TD run by Brooks. Dude manhandles TWO defenders. His run blocking is a legit positive.
  3. Great meeting you and your wife as well. And that was an outstanding meal, lived up to the hype.
  4. Wouldn’t lie about food. Do I need to change my reservation? Can Red Rooster handle that much Surly?
  5. Any recs for Saturday morning activity when it’s raining? Forecast is 100% rain this Saturday…we are Red Rooster at 11 but were hoping to take a walk through Central Park prior. That’s likely out. The Met and Natural History open at 10 so not enough time to enjoy them before Red Rooster.
  6. Thanks to both, booked Carmel, looking forward to the visit. Appreciate the tip.
  7. Anybody got a car service you recommend? I could Google but just thought I’d ask.
  8. Reminds of me when Andy told Ron Swanson they should get some burritos: “I don’t much go for ethnic food.”
  9. Bullet Bob Hayes was my first pro autograph as a kid. Nice guy, friendly to a 10 yr old at a lame card show. (Nobody asked, but My 3rd autograph was Danny Darwin of Fannin County fame. Hard to imagine a bigger gap of excellence.)
  10. The Bullet himself is the correct answer
  11. Need some advice: Wife and I are arriving at EWR at 11pm. Staying right next to Penn Station in NYC—is there any issue with taking the AirTrain that late? Preliminary Google search shows ~30 min trip. Seems fine, but I’ve always taken a cab from JFK/LGA.
  12. They make it way harder than it needs to be. Like they don’t even tell us the distance on punts or other info on personnel, stats, etc. Last night saw a rough start for Acho. It initially sounded like a parody…he literally said “Louisiana Monroe runs a zone read offense, so we’re gonna see a lot of zones and a lot of reads.” He settled in to typical banality which is at least not detracting from the game watching experience.
  13. As someone who has had the pleasure of eating CFS at both Cheever’s and Jimmy’s Roundup, I can confirm that both are A+. However, there is a difference between the two. Cheever’s will likely require reservations for dinner. Jimmy’s…well…it will not require reservations. For that matter, Jimmy’s may not even require shoes. But the CFS (and the rest of the menu) slams, goes hard, ad infinitum, etc.
  14. I think it’s entirely plausible that this is the first and only incident of this kind (no sarcasm) from Gundy and that it happened exactly as he described. There is exactly one verboten word in our culture, and everyone knows exactly what it is. We can discuss the merit of “cancelling” somebody because of this kind of singular transgression, but not saying this word is an absolute. A not insignificant number of the young men he coaches and recruits would never take a word he said seriously in the future.
  15. Strooooong page going here. I just gained 7 lbs looking at it. Carry on.
  16. Wait-A-Burger I mean, I still crush WB as much as my arteries allow. But yeah.
  17. I don’t have an answer about CWS, sorry man, but did have a separate question—what is the deal with the water from tap?! Undrinkable and even had an odor in the shower. We didn’t cook with it, and even the soda at restaurants was foul because of it. We’ve always bought bottles water from the Blue Marlin for drinking but this year it was at a whole other level of awful.
  18. That’s a good description. Because it is painful to listen to. I’m sure Ian will improve, and I like that he doesn’t play the Kevin Dunn contrarian role and drift into their political echo chamber. But it’s a bit rough right now. Speaking of Kevin Dunn…he and Paul act like Kevin is the professional who carries EGAT, but their dynamic is weird and Paul is way more entertaining and informative. Also, Kevin takes things way too seriously—he misses about 3 jokes per episode or mistakenly takes Paul’s jokes as personal…anyway, I’d rather listen to Paul fly solo. At least he’s honest about his arrogance, ha
  19. I had many a tasty burger at Ray’s Burger Barn in Van Zandt County, not to mention Sack-A-Burger around Cedar Creek Lake
  20. Oklahoma did change the law allowing regular point beer. OU and Oklahoma still suck though
  21. The students are the absolute best part of the job. (I do think as I get older they sense a barrier even if I don’t…though I’ve worked with tons of teachers that are in their 50s-60s who kids loved and respected.) As your post and Friday experience remind, it’s the adults who make it crappy. I’m grateful you’re still finding fulfillment and going the extra mile for your students. It really does matter—teachers impact eternity. I may feel differently in a month…maybe I’ve just hit a low patch. But it seems different this time. It’s daunting to think about starting over…anyway, vent any time. I’ve always enjoyed your candor about teaching through your posts over the years. And I’ll definitely update this thread.
