He could live in Austin and be almost as close to his daughters. Custody zones vary. No one on this board knows or should know the specifics of his divorce agreement or if there is even a custody zone involved. There often isn’t when the potential for a very high income comes into play. His daughters have gone to every NCAA tournament game in which Tech has played over the last two seasons. He clearly has a pretty favorable agreement that allows him to travel with his girls. And the oldest is a Freshman at Columbia and is already an adult so for one kid, it doesn’t matter anyway. He spent only a few years in Austin but 14 and counting in Lubbock and longer than that in West Texas. If he loves Austin do much, why doesn’t he live there now? Actions speak louder than words and every action of his for two decades has indicated that living in Lubbock and coaching at Tech are his desire. Texas basketball isn’t Duke or Kentucky. He’s already shown that he can have success at Tech and remember that even after the new arena opens, his facility situation at Tech will still be better. Unlike the UT basketball coach, he’ll have first call on time and events there because it is owned by the school, not investors. And then there’s his new 29 M $ practice facility that opens late this year. I don’t know that Red Raiders are “whistling past the graveyard”, but a lot of Longhorns have plugged their ears and covered their eyes because they are confusing Texas Tech with North Texas or UTEP.
