  1. Pretty good for an abandoned bottle at the Spec’s drop.
  2. Season 2 has wrapped per Seth and multiple actors. No release date I can find.
  3. If my Houston guys are driving east to hit the boats or go to New Orleans, Liquor Hut in Mount Belvieu might be worth a stop. It’s about a half mile from I 10. Pretty good store picks. Really good 1792 BiB pick.
  4. Herbie’s son is on the team right? You know they’re going to give a ring to dad, and he’s going to wear it on every Game Day. That cocksucker likes wearing jewelry more than a Kardashian. What an insufferable fanbase. 10 years between championships, and countless losses to Michigan and CFP games doesn’t seem like punishment enough. I’m still angry we scheduled them again. Shitty Texas fan experience in the Shoe and then we get to chase that with tens of thousands of Rust Belt couch burners descending on Austin.
  5. Come on Henry. It’s not called the Heidi Show for a reason. She’s a minor member of an ensemble cast led by Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.
  6. I dunno about all that. We’ll only ever know what they show us. I can only think of one tell all book, and it was published for the 30th anniversary. What I saw in the doc: - The writers’ room really doesn’t exist anymore. It looked an initial meeting with the host, full cast, and writers. Then writing teams of 2-3 broke off into small groups, sometimes with cast members, and basically write the nuts and bolts of the show. Writing night, cast goes home at midnight. Writers stay up all night writing the show. Pitch to Lorne on Thursday. Lorne picks the show, and rehearsal on Friday. - I think regulars are maybe there for parts of Tuesday and Wednesday, Lorne meeting on Thursday, rehearsal Friday, and show on Saturday. - I don’t think current cast members are writing nearly as much as in the past. As the doc hammered home, if you want to be on the show, you have to write your own sketches. Could be an aftershock of the strikes. Maybe it’s not a strength of the current cast. Maybe they don’t care. - The old system is closed. Doing well on a SNL isn’t going to get a cast member a network sitcom. With all the packaging, it won’t get them a movie either. There’s no motivation to be great. Why take risks when longevity is key? Many appearances lead to becoming a familiar face for commercial work like Kennan and Heidi Gardner. - I’m sure they got a ton of help getting it made, but at least Please Don’t Destroy took a swing and made their own movie. The scenes with Conan are gold.
  7. I think Clay Travis and Nick Wright are transitioning into the same person.
  8. The pups were pretty timid at first, but they turned into Artic wolves within a few minutes. Big girl is famously hard to photograph, but I did get a good action pic of little girl.
  9. While it’s nothing earth shattering, the Spec’s Sazerac pick is pretty great. At $30, it’s probably an 8/10 for me. Subtle floral note. Not as good as the Roma picks, but it drinks better than many, many ryes prices over a $100.
  10. This. The bottle wasn’t even a keeper because the stopper immediately fell apart upon opening. I had to go find a wine stopper that would fit.
  11. I’ll take a win against the best team in the league in one of the worst officiated basketball games I’ve ever witnessed.
  12. Interesting tidbit I overlooked on Tina Fey. Thanks. The Lorne quote about wanting to produce the kind of show he’d want to watch stuck with me. I guess he cares about as much as Dick Wolf and Chuck Lorre if the show is good. NBC will put it on the air, and people will watch it. There’s some scuttlebutt that the NBC execs believe SNL is too expensive, and they’d like to reduce costs after the 50th Season. The SNL beat writers have pushed back that it’s a sacrosanct product as long as Lorne is there. I doubt NBC will slash costs, and I doubt he’ll ever retires health permitting.
  13. I guess Apple Weather updates pretty regularly. Looks like it’s shifted back to a light freeze. Thanks.
  14. While I love this thread, and the posters what are the Astros playing for this season. At best the AL West title? Maybe a fever dream of a pennant before a public execution in the Fall Classic? The Dodgers are building the Death Star, and there’s no hope in sight until there’s a hard salary cap. And that won’t happen unfortunately without another lockout and a strike.
  15. I finished the 4 episode Beyond Saturday Night documentary. Scattershooting: - The 4th episode about Season 11 was my favorite. I’ll give them credit for allowing Wayans to talk some shit and tell his side of the story. Very cool of Lorne to invite him back to perform his stand up. - Pretty interesting that terrific comedic actors like Downey and Anthony Michael Hall didn’t do well on SNL. Movie stars, but not sketch performers. Great pivot in Season 12 to cast the improv greats of their time. - I need to watch more of Season 10. Holy shit what a cast. That’s an impossible act to follow for first timers. - I love that they had to use archival footage from 2005 for ALL of the Lorne interviews on Season 11. In fact, episode 3 is the only episode that includes a Lorne interview. I guess he’s feigning modesty that he won’t sit for interviews on his own show. - It was fun watching the old auditions and casting decisions in episode 1. The casts were probably better in the past because of less nepotism. I think Lorne wants a smooth operation now, and he’ll cast nepo babies because they know what to do and how to act at Studio 8H. - While not a nepo baby, from what I’ve gathered everybody in the New York Comedy Community was rooting/pushing for Pete Davidson. No problem with casting him on the show, but he was consistently the worst performing cast member while appearing in the most sketches. Lorne played favorites, and it cost the show. He then doubles down on Davidson and produces his show on Peacock. If you can’t make show with Joe Pesci, Edie Falco, and Brad Garrett work, then problem is with your star. Lorne is so established and comfortable I doubt he’s ever given it a second thought.
  16. This game is what worries me about the Rockets in the playoffs. Cleveland opens the game by fouling on every single Rockets touch. The refs look at each other and decide they don’t want to call a 40+ free throw game and let them play.
  17. Relationships with the front office, and a good attitude matter. Theres plenty of vets playing overseas that are better at basketball than Tristian Thompson. Don’t be a dick, play good defense, do whatever they ask you to do, and you can play a long time in the NBA. Good for him.
  18. And unfortunately the Texans need a WR. I’ve seen a couple mocks of the Texans taking a DT in the 1st. I think Caserio has done a good job of building a viable pass rush/run defense with spare parts at DT. Best player available and all that, but they really need an OG, and a WR that isn’t a reach.
  19. How are the road conditions in Houston? We’ve been ordered to go in tomorrow, and it looks like it’ll be below freezing for 7 solid hours before I drive in. A lot of their decision making is based on what HISD and Katy ISD decide to do (terrifying). I get the feeling they thought the weather would be fine this afternoon, the weather shifted, and we’re looking at another hard freeze tonight. I know they want to get back to normal, but this seems unwise.
  20. Beryl was very unique. The eye going over Katy has to be the first time.
  21. His last couple sets have been great. The Rochester bit, and the story about how crack saved his uncle’s life.
  22. More body language bullshit speculation. https://ew.com/dave-chappelle-bowen-yang-hug-for-snl-goodbyes-year-after-awkward-photo-8777105 It was interesting that Yang didn’t appear in a single Chappelle sketch. If a cast member hates the host do they just play hooky all week? Secure cast members can probably get away with it. I wouldn’t recommend it for Emil Wakim
  23. I think Tony cleverly navigates the “he’s too mean, comedy is hard” criticisms by giving anyone and everyone a chance with the bucket. It leads to some wild interviews and some diamonds in the rough discoveries, but far too often it’s a rough 5 minutes. If your minute sucks, and you’re a bad interview, there’s nothing Tony can do with you other than make fun of the way you look and sound. Kam and Ari are the only dependable regulars right now. I like William, but his hit rate isn’t great.
  24. WTI only went down a point and half today. I think the adjustment is coming tomorrow.
