  1. Anybody travel with their dogs from Texas to NYC? I’d love to take the girls for a walk in Central Park. I need: - Airline suggestions - Near the park hotel friendly suggestions. - NYC pet lodging options.
  2. Batman Returns is a straight up Christmas movie. I watched today, so Level 1. What was life like in November in 1990 when Home Alone came out? I’m too young to remember. Seems pretty glorious. A suburb dad can afford to take his family of 15 to France. Carson is still on the air. John Candy is still alive. Air travel seems pleasant.
  3. SOC’s QB is white. My brain hurts.
  4. Tomato, tomahto.
  5. Good luck to the unwashed masses. I have a strategy I’ll share on the evening of the 28th.
  6. Specifics weren’t provided. The guy behind the counter looked to be homeless last time I was in there. Store pick selections are pretty skimpy in Houston right now.
  7. Roma Discount Liquor on Antoine is closed. I asked around town. “Dude was doing some shady shit. They closed.”
  8. Poison Girl. 8 Row is great, but a tad overpriced.
  9. It’s a human evolution thing, it’s not fantasy or magic. Think of the face dancers as human chameleons. They’re almost certainly using forbidden technology to speed things up, but the empire and Great Houses look the other way. They’re definitely afraid of the face dancers, but they’re a powerful guild and they need them. An important reminder about Dune, much as in our world, there is no magic. It’s humans spending endless hours training themselves to do extraordinary things while high as shit on spice.
  10. There are many Treasure Island homages and references as well. Many theories out there that Silvo is going to give the kids the Long John Silver treatment.
  11. Where is it available?
  12. I think the bracket has a recency bias problem. No Christmas in Connecticut or the original Miracle on 34th Steet is curious. No White Christmas is criminal. I don’t really consider The Apartment or Meet Me in St Louis Christmas movies. Most of St Louis is set in the summer. Way under the radar Christmas classic: The Desk Set. Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, and 1950’s office Christmas party shenanigans.
  13. I don’t think we need another season of Desmond Hart(?), but I don’t think they have enough runway to resolve his storyline. So they’ll HotD this thing into another season.
  14. I can’t touch @NOMAAA, but Die Hard and Lot B should beat Woodford Reserve in the hospital last Christmas.
  15. Jesus my tasting notes. Maybe like flat apricots? Good nose, decent palette, no finish. I’d pass unless you think they’re throwing in some sweeteners.
  16. Did he make a cameo? I’m not finding it anywhere with some half ass Googling.
  17. Yeah it was awesome episode. My whole floor at work heard me laughing.
  18. I believe the showrunner Paul Sims has stated before that he’s never spoken to Taika. I take that EP title is largely symbolic/financial.
  19. Bozo is going to have fun with his reply. i don’t think you’re far off. All 3 bourbons you mentioned are distilled by Buffalo Trace and owned by Sazerac. All 3 are about the same quality. I love BT store picks. I can never keep the bottle in stock at my house. It’s a damn fine bourbon for around $30. Weller Special Reserve really isn’t my thing. Something about it just doesn’t work, but most people love it. I usually pass on 1792 unless it’s a Full Proof store pick. 12 Year and Sweet Wheat are pretty tricky to find on the shelf. It sounds like you’re starting on your bourbon journey. It can be exciting figuring what you like and what you don’t. A lot of people in this thread will you tell you age statements are bullshit, but I think they’re helpful when you’re getting started. Especially with ryes. I usually like ryes that 6 years old or older. I’m a little more open minded with bourbons, but I won’t drink anything younger than 4 years. I really don’t care about proof. If it tastes good it tastes good, but usually uncut and unfiltered tastes better. Some cheaper stuff I’m drinking right now are : Sazerac Rye store picks, Evan Williams SiB, Bowman Small Batch, and Benchmark Bonded. Bottled in bond is helpful. I won’t go through all the rules, but basically it’s at least a 4 years old, 100 proof, produced at the same distillery during the same season, and stored in a federally bonded warehouse. There’s no cheating, so it’s usually a good product. Also look on the back of the bottle to see where it was distilled. There are some rare expectations, but I won’t buy it if it doesn’t say distilled in Kentucky, Indiana, or Jack Daniel’s on the back. Bowman is distilled in Virginia. It’s outstanding, but they’re wholly owned by BT. I wouldn’t use the Youtube experts’ reviews to influence your decisions. It’s infotainment, and lot of them are pay for play. Word of mouth is usually much better. If I have time I’ll try to find a pour at a bar before I buy something new. Price is always tricky. This is America, it’s worth whatever you’re willing to pay for it. The new rule seems to $10-15 per year in the barrel. Your Indiana products, MGP, tend to be more expensive because they’re a contract distiller. Still a terrific product, but they’re not as integrated and don’t have the scale of a BT or Heaven Hill. Things I wish people told me when I got started: - BT and Heaven Hill are the best distillers and it’s not really close. There’s a reason they’re so popular, profitable, and have been in business so long. Jack Daniel’s has recently entered the circle of trust with barrel proof picks and special releases. - Be real careful with Jim Beam products. Almost everything with JB on the label is going to taste like peanuts. Booker’s is overpriced now, and the Knob Creek picks are probably never coming back. - The Wild Turkey special releases aren’t worth the money except for Russell’s 13 and 15. Save your money. - Most of the big cities in Texas have bourbon socials at least once a year. It can be a shit show, but it’s a good opportunity to try a lot of different bourbons to determine what you like. Also a great chance to try dusties, BTAC, and Pappy. - I wouldn’t recommend ever buying Dickel unless you need to clean your deck.
  20. No Porsche/King Ranch steering wheel in the background. You’d never make it in Houston buddy.
  21. I believe there’s ticket information at the beginning of every show. I wish the regulars/golden ticket winners got longer than a minute. The bucket pulls have been terrible for months. Not even Tony and the panel roasting them in the interviews can save it. I’ve been hanging in there for Ari, William Montgomery, Cam, and Hans Kim. Tony’s interactions with D Madness, the bass guitarist, are usually pretty funny. Redban bombing is always funny. The episode with Montgomery’s parents on the panel is fucking hilarious. Really funny family. Ari’s bit about campaign signs is the hardest I’ve laughed in a long time.
  22. We sat right behind the home dugout some years ago, and my wife loudly remarked that Altuve looked like a cute baby as he was warming up. He definitely heard because he gave us a WTF?! look. Greatness. I’m still laughing about it.
