  1. It’s completely possible the fish they’re serving now is prebreaded, and they just throw the planks in the fryer.
  2. I worked a summer at Luby’s. To-go “waiter”. Fried fish was far and away the most popular item. Especially on Sundays. It’s always been frozen. They’d take big blocks of haddock and cut them with a band saw into planks. I believe they’d thaw them in the fridge, bread it, fry it, and put it on the mine as needed. I can never remember us running out of fish, so they had a shit ton of it.
  3. OST location? Yes, indeed.
  4. This is a winner at $40. No idea on the availability. Spec’s had it in the pseudo back room.
  5. Dana Carvey stirred the pot some on the most recent Fly on the Wall episode. He said it wasn’t Heidi’s decision to leave the show.
  6. Yep. I agree. Shane complains about hot it is in Austin at least once on every single social media post.
  7. I always assumed it was inevitable.
  8. My body is ready.
  9. My parents and grandparents usually bribed me with JCI to go to church. I think the Sunday special was like $1.50 per chili-cheese dog. When I met my wife they still had the Sunday special. We’d go there after church. Good times.
  10. His pizza reviews are entertaining, but after hearing some of the inside baseball details they’re not very authentic. The pizzerias almost always are notified beforehand that Dave is coming by. So the fifth generation pizza maker/owner is making Dave’s pizza instead of the usual line cook from Central America.
  11. The marketing has been odd. The uniformed probably think this another remake of Man on Fire.
  12. Listening to The Athletic’s NBA Daily show right now. Torre appears to have them dead to rights. 7 sources at Aspiration, thousands of pages of evidence.
  13. Well always have PDD’s Original Princes or Comedy. The HBCU sweatshirts killed me. Rest in Power Smoke Dog.
  14. Oh yes. Stick with it.
  15. The Jack in the Box smashburger is better than Sonic’s.*
  16. This. Ringwald was smart enough to decline Some Kind of Wonderful, but decided the Ohio indie version of Pretty in Pink. Was a good idea. I guess, we all have a mortgage and bills to pay.
  17. A XOM really suggested Pancho’s?! That’s some wild stuff.
  18. Fresh Horses. Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Viggo Mortensen, and Ben Stiller. Available on PlutoTv. Wow. What a bleak piece of shit for a coming of age movie. They shot the whole thing in Cincinnati in the winter so it just looks gray, brown, and shitty throughout the film. Ringwald starts the movie with a bad Kentucky accent, and later drops it. McCarthy plays exactly the same character as Pretty in Pink. Stiller is supposed to be the comic relief, but he’s just brutally unfunny throughout. It’s very early in his career and it’s apparent he has no idea what he’s doing. There’s really no story. McCarthy meets Ringwald, class and social conflict ensue, roll credits.
  19. Bad recent lunch experience: Black Walnut. The location by the park is getting remodeled, so Rice Village has been insanely slammed on the weekends. I love the place, but they might be too busy for their own good. I’ll try again during off hours. Great bloody mary’s and breakfast menu. Lots of good memories of Entourage style brunches with the boys after tearing up Midtown the night before. Pro tip: You can skip the counter lines and order at the table with a QR code. Good recent brunch experience: The Red Lion. They have to be only place in town that serves an authentic English breakfast. Blood pudding, bangers, bacon, fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, Heinz beans, and toast. They also have London Pride on tap. Amazing place and probably the last English pub in town. If you want something lighter, I’ve parked at Red Lion and walked across the street to Hot Bagel. Their lot is a war zone on the weekends, but you can get in and out on foot. Eat your bagel and go have a beer after.
  20. Certainly a Houston only thing, but I nominate James Coney Island (JCI). I can happily report the Meyerland location is not only open; they’re thriving. Chili and cheese coney with a little hot sauce. Tastes just like how it did growing up.
  21. The Jack in the Box smashburger than Sonic. Sonic has wisely read the room and created a dollar menu. Corn dog, 2 mozzarella sticks, and soft pretzel. Pretty good snacks with your cherry limeade.
