Intro:
DKR Environment was really great and special created something. first year crowd was here but trying to figure out who they are. Now it's a really great home field advantage. Got to see highlights of the NFL guys and what they are doing. Bijan and X playing in a prime time game. As a team, good complementary football. Anthony hill gets called back block in the back but turnover still leads to touchdown points on turnovers. Pinned them deep and forced a safety then immediately got a short field for a touchdown. Players of the game Anthony Hill and Leona Lefau - the depth is incredible, they aren't counting their reps they are making their reps count. Jadon Blue played an incredible football game, Arch played alright, 5-6 plays and checkdowns room for growth thats the difference between 52% completion and 65%+. Greatest thing he heard this morning: Jaydon Blue said "man I should have played a lot better than I did" and he had 4 TD's and 100+ yards. They want to get better. SEC Opener this weekend. Coach Lebby is a fucking bitch, our team is gonna focus on them 3:15 kick come early stay late and play the brand of football we are accustomed to. fuck these bitches up.
Question 1: brought in a lb portal who didn't work out. What did you think of liona and Tyanthony?
Leona was awesome on special teams. Great relationship with Nansen. Tyanthony too. Sark didn't know what he was getting he thought it was developmental. Very instinctual and athletic. Getting meaningful snaps. Feel good about the future at that position. Gbenda and Blackwell also great.
Question 2: through 4 games, talk about move barron to outsde and guilbeau in the mix
How do we get our 5 best players on the field? Jahdae has a high football IQ he learned corner safety and already knew star. Gives great value in the run game and flexible for manny Mohamed. Very versatile group, gavin holmes impactful. Lots of depth and versatility in the secondary. Multitude of coverages and disguising, great communication knows what they want to get done.
Question 3: why do you think team has been able to control games from kickoff?
Believe in the formula for success. Preparation, practice = confidence to play. They aren't playing to what the game is, they are so focused on what they need to do so it's consistent in the approach throughout the week, warmups and coming out of the locker room. This team personality is coming out and they have swagger they earned
Question 4: Wide receiver room losses in x, Mitchell, jwhitt how do you have bolden, Matthews, bond, wingo come in and play as well as they do?
Challenge is we have an NFL offense. They knew they wanted to come in for that. It's one thing for physical ability and another to know what to do. You can play fast if you know what to do. That group has real speed. Incredible depth, you never know which guy is going to be the guy who is going to have the explosive game. All of them have made huge impacts in each game they've come in with big plays. Doesn't have to force injured guys back out there deandre moore banged up and can just put another one in
Question 5: Have you had to change the offense at all because CJ isn't there and Blue out a game? Is this what you thought the offense would look like? Injury updates on Quinn and Moore?
He didn't change it, they've challenged the backs. He doesn't know if there is something different that someone else is seeing. We are doing all we want to do. Would like to have the screen game pick up, thats an area of improvement. Schematically they have been the same. Quinn practiced today, but questionable and moore practiced today as well.
Question 6: How does arch's football IQ and preparation stack up against other guys you've had before, how much is he accelerated because of the intangibles?
He loves football, he studies it. When the ball is snapped he has to play the game. Warns him not to overprepare and he needs to be able to react to what happens instead of looking for what he thinks is going to happen. Wants to be the fastest mental players on every snap. Arch good at this.
Question 7: The game felt long to him (arch) what were you convos like and how did he hold up?
One thing he did well Saturday was responding to adversity after the interception. He wouldn't have been that resilient last season He has matured and grown in that regard significantly. He believes in his ability which is great. Hes going to learn the value of explosive plays on the perimeter in check downs. Impressed that he's rebounding so strongly mentally.
Question 8: What do you think of the injury reports as a staff? What does quinn have to do to play?
He has to show me enough to play. Can he execute? Not making excuses needs to be healthy enough to play at a high level if he can't he won't start. Impressed with where he was today. Thinks the report is a good thing. Clarity of why: leaks needed to be addressed because of gambling and scoop so that the trainers and players aren't getting bothered by asshole insiders trying to know. Injury reports still need vetting.
Question 9: Do you do business as usual or SEC opener change in pace?
Literally business as usual. Coach speak. Respect first game, but doesn't matter. This is an SEC championship game. Every week is the championship game. tie breaker rule sucks if you aren't at the top. quit reading after 2 pages of tie breaker.
Question 10: mississippi state runs tempo and splits how hard is that to plan for?
lebby respect but they are going to shit on them. Look out for getting stuck in a formation going really fast. doesnt' make a shit what QB is there
Question 11: How do you think the SEC is gonna be different between BigXII and now?
Theres a lot of big humans in this conference. 8 conference games and understanding how depth and skill players play. about team building to attack that accordingly. The mental intensity needed to compete every week in the SEC. Missouri overtime with vandy. Georgia dogfight with Kentucky. Top to bottom is challenging.
Question 12: media day 2021 announced and you immediately started putting the plan in place for big humans talk through journey from planning then to now that in SEC?
It was a little bit of a shift, he didn't know about SEC move, but he knew that this style of roster and team needed to beat the best team in the SEC anyway if they wanted to win the NC. Just about executing the plan from the getgo Heck of a journey. Glad to win Big XII championship out the door. at Texas "it just means more too" The expectation for winning a national championship is there.
Question 13: Times when arch can be too focused and locked in, do you think as he matures that he will loosen up and change?
He's very consciensous guy and he can overthink it a little. He's gonna get loose and confident he's at his best when he's enjoying playing ball. Fine line of figuring it out, experience very important.
Question 14: Do you remember a moment when you looked at the program you looked at it and said "we are SEC ready"?
Last year, big physical speed last year but not enough depth. Pretty good team last year. Beat alabama at home and they were SEC Champs. This year questioning the depth, that question has been answered and thinks it can withstand the 8 game season. Feels like a complete team that way.
Question 15: There's a no nonsense tone when talking to even happy go lucky guys like Anthony hill is that a culture thing? does it trickle down?
Yeah thats a cutlture thing. Everyone but 4 guys is recruiting or brought in by the staff. A lot of people don't know anything different and thats by design. Favorite thing is watching them say the things naturally that he's been beating into them for years. It's not coach talk its team talk. They are bought in and living it, they've elevated it. They are answering the why and that's when good things happen.
Question 16: 9 or 10 passes beyond 20 yards was that schematic or just personality arch?
That was the plan going into that game. Their safety's were slow as fuck and they knew. They talked about gameplan before and laughed about how many shots there were on there. Arch is a great deep ball thrower. His willingness is there. Byproduct of that. Wished he would have given him a few more freebie passes instead of just the hard stuff he threw at arch. Needs to learn to check down, but sark needs to learn to call the easy plays too.
Question 17: with Texas defense being top ranked that is indicative of PK's vision but talk about nansen?
Having continuity and adding johnny Nansen and the good defense they played at Arizona. He's got a great style of coaching he's very active they have to keep him off the field high intensity and lots of passion. Players respond to him well. PK and Johnny are a great pair and he brought some good schematics with him
Question 18: when you were enviswiooning this roster what were the pillars defensively and where are you compared to that now?
Every position is important. Stout DL important gotta stop the run. Wanted impact pass rushers who can be violent on the edge. Length and stuff for screens to knock down. Versatile players at star and safety because they have to blitz cover tackle etc. needed really athletic linebackers because spread field and need the athleticism. Look at the body types in each position and they are indicative of what they are looking for.
Question 19: How much of this week is asking quinn how he feels as part of going back and him being honest?
They have done this dance before coming back from injury. They have a lot of time together. History together is most beneficial going into this week. THANKS BYE
