  1. Pivot to strategic communications and media planning. Nobody from that school is an actual journalist anymore.
  2. My daughter did this at Mizzou. Honors program, OOS tuition offset by scholarships and she established residence for years 2-4 Graduated honors program from the J school in strat com Magna Cum Laude. Seems like 1/3 of Mizzou is from Dallas, another 1/3 from Chicago, which is where she lives now. She’s crushing it. One other thing - she bartended/worked in bar/grill jobs all 4 years, so her social intelligence is off the map excellent. She knows how to read people very well. My son’s first W2 came after graduation from Uncle Sam and he has trouble relating to civilians.
  3. Indeed that was pretty cool. That's gotta be more fun than any carnival ride ever. She can honestly say she knows how a home run baseball feels as it leaves the infield.
  4. Yeah. And Pink and Brandi just sang “nothing compares 2U” as a duet. I've never been in a venue where the women outnumber the men 20:1.
  5. Ok fuck, Brandi Carlile is good. Had no idea Shooter is her keyboardist and producer. All I know is I got roped into taking my wife to Pink for her birthday but damned.
  6. Last few posts are correct. Have spent a few HSFB halftimes looking for my kiddo.
  7. Current location. May frame it for the wife.
  8. Brisket nailed it. I'm spending the next 4 days with 250 recovering alcoholics at a lakeside church camp. 62nd annual event, my 11th time. My service commitment is to coordinate the servers for the cafeteria, which traditionally has been 1st year attendees. Gets them out of self and into meeting new people. Some of the most interesting people I'll ever know. Heck of a cool golf tournament tomorrow. “The good news is that you never have to feel that way again. The bad news is we're your new best friends.” I can't wait to find the greenest newcomer and hear all about how he ended up with us. Alcoholism is by far the best thing that ever happened to me.
  9. My little league team (Cardinals) was always 2nd to the Angels. I fucking hated that team. They had a pitcher I couldn't hit, and his dad was their coach. The kid was friendly, but his dad was a raging asshole baseball dad. We beat them once, and I remember hitting a line drive RBI off 1st base that dribbled into short right field but off a different pitcher. About 14 years later, I was in a business lunch at a restaurant when I noticed an MLB game on the bar TV. IIRC I was talking to a coworker or client when I saw that pitcher’s name come up on the screen as he walked to the batter’s box (he had a few years as a MLB 2nd baseman) and I screamed “Thats the motherfucker who struck me out!!!!!” and laughed maniacally. It was as if my whole Little League career had been suddenly vindicated. 12 year old me just thought he sucked at baseball. CSB one of my oldest friends is married to Mark Petkovsek and he taught my son how to throw.

  11. And today is World Gratitude Day. And today is World Gratitude Day.
  12. I like church because of the pipe organ, the steinway grand, 300-year-old hymns, my female pastor, and the fact that after cataract surgery I can sit in church during the sermon but before the doxogy and meditate with a renewed appreciation on the stained glass and our mid-century modern sanctuary. Gumbo is just lagniappe. I can't stand visiting churches that are painted flat black like a soundstage. With a glass enclosed drum kit and guitars.
  13. Yep. At 10:05 pm. Some of our other friends were with him. I was in flight. Sepsis, high fever, ventilator, organ failure. The hospital is “Uh, where do we send him now?” Told them the local friendly funeral parlor, we will sort out the details tomorrow.
  14. Sadly, my friend’s condition has deteriorated quite rapidly. Reportedly he is in back in ICU and is unconscious. My friend has medical power of attorney and is consulting with the medical staff about signing a DNR. I'll be flying home for a day and will more than likely just get to say goodbye. In hindsight, it looks like I was quite the optimist.
  15. My 21’ CC IS $609. American Modern is the carrier.
  16. That scene where Bird told McHale he would break his neck if he apologized to Rambis was wild.
  17. I'm OK with it. Now do the Bulls. Or the 70s Cowboys/Steelers.
  18. I'm chairman of the fellowship committee. At the church my grandparents helped found in the 50s. Raging liberal Presbyterian. At first I was “dammit they put me on the session so I would be their church luncheon bitch. I hate that job.” so I did it until I learned to love it. Several years later, it's one of the more rewarding of my half-dozen service commitments. Served gumbo to 120 in the fellowship hall after church today, as a matter of fact, and already looking forward to October’s event. Our PCUSA pastor has wacky themes. Of course next month is the kirkin of the tartans (no haggis, enchilada soup), but today was talk like a pirate day. Here are my 82 year old aunt and uncle, and my mom.
  19. Hopefully. He was spiking a high fever last night and was borderline incoherent. They have my number and I've offered to help with context.
  20. I HAVE MANY TWEEZERS SO I CAN PULL HEARING AID DOMES OUT OF MY EARS WHEN THEY GET STUCK!
  21. So predictably, he's going to become an alcoholic. I have tweezers strategically dispersed in my truck console, briefcase, suitcase, desk drawer, and dopp kit, kitchen junk drawer in case I pull out a hearing aid and the silicone ear dome remains in my ear. About once a month I have to go digging for one.
  22. Jefferson/Beaumont My new hairdresser is my kryptonite. Platinum blonde, blue eyes, think east Texas slightly older Margot Robbie.
  23. Zelle or cash money is the way, Venmo and Cashapp will generate 1099s. The only check I write is to my boat storage warehouse landlord.
  24. That's a good idea, thanks.
  25. I agree. Thanks for indulging my chatGPT-generated quotes, I'll stop now.
