  1. Congratulations!! I sure hope I get grandkids soon. No pressure though.
  2. Boat show Houston day, I'm giddy.
  3. I'm going to teach my Jewish nieces who attend Catholic school that one.
  4. I credit this thread, my sobriety, and that last shot of lemon ciroc that my wife had for helping me rediscover my youth. Now I need to find a 1988 Olsdmobile ninety-eight.
  5. Tl;Dr - fucked my wife in her car on a back road tonight, no fucks given because her godfather is the police chief if we had gotten caught. (what a way to rekindle our youth!)
  6. At Moscow University, in 1993, I sat across the table discussing “student affairs” with their equivalent of their student congress. What are your biggest pressing issues, we asked? Their reply: “we want heat, bread, necessities.” They asked for our answer. “Well, uh, sometimes HEB runs out of our favorite beer, and the food at Georges kind of sucks but given the price of Big O’s we can live with it. I'm studying environmental studies and everything else until daddy says it's time to graduate, and Austin isn't as cool as it once was.” Then I went to Vilnius and lived with a family for 6 weeks in one of those shitty soviet apartments, and they told me of family members who were killed in the USSR’s death throes. They remember all too well. Russia sucks.
  7. That's a really good video, thank you.
  8. Just got a text from my Dads Vietnam friend, there is dad, at LZ Gator acting silly at the 5:50 mark.
  9. Dang it! I wanted to go. Thoughts and prayers?
  10. Prejeans, gotta try the weekend brunch.
  11. Thanks for the recommendations. Passing these off to the wife for scheduling.
  12. Glad you liked it. I saw Hamilton in KC in 2019.
  13. Right, MR is at 7 on Friday, all adults (3). Hadestown is 8pm on Saturday, and six is 2pm on Sunday. We will have a 4th friend (daughter’s college roommate) meeting us for Hadestown, other than that it’s just my wife, 23 yr old daughter, and me.
  14. Im gonna have cry when Steely Dan kicks it.
  15. Moulin Rouge is Friday Feb 17, Hadestown on Saturday night, then a matinee of Six on Sunday. Staying at Essex House.
  16. Not sure. I don’t know any of his coworkers.
  17. Came here to post that. Ay @ernesttbass is yours folded and put away?
  18. Hahaha im gonna send that to McCullers mom, I’ve known her for years.
  19. The guy at whose house I stay at during hurricane evacuations is the Sales VP at GT. He’s much more interested in sheriff’s departments with big budgets.
  20. From time to time people will show up in Beaumont meetings because they are afraid that they might run into someone they know in a Houston meeting. That’s always hilarious. Pride and ego vs. humility. Flip the coin and see which side I’m on today. My dad used to joke that he walked into his first AA meeting and saw his banker, lawyer, customers, suppliers, and investors, that’s when his life really began.
  21. Took on a new sponsee yesterday. Yesterday morning I attended the funeral of a friend’s 96-year-old dad. It was one of those funerals to which we should all aspire. Outstanding father, civic leader, businessman, philanthropist, poet, and philosopher. An overall success by most measures. The only blemish was that he and his late wife had been outstanding parents of the year and distinguished alumni at TAMU (come on, the Aggy war hymn as your funeral procession?) Anyway, as I was telling my new sponsee, one of my fears was I didn’t want my kids to remember me as a tragedy. “Dear old dad, such a troubled soul died drunk in a roadside ditch. So sad.” I was tired of being burdensome. That’s why my living amends are so necessary. Ego? Sure. Unhealthy? Not if my motivations are genuine. My dad might have been a no-good, dirty home-wrecking drunk for a while, but he made up for it in the 29 years he was sober and working a program. I’m optimistic that my life will follow a similar path. It’s the least I can do for my wife, her family, my kids and their families, and the rest of my friends and loved ones. Stop doing harm.
  22. Reading your posts is like looking into a mirror. You’re one of my favorite people here. Ultimately, I had to lose (almost) everything in the rebirth. Completely deconstructed and reassembled just a little bit better.
  23. 12 years ago last night I came close. 12 years ago today I woke up in the hospital expecting to be handcuffed to the bed. The best I can tell, you can’t take a BAC sample from someone unconscious and unable to provide consent. That was my last drunk, so far. Sober, safe, and sane and about to go to a Saturday morning meeting.
  24. My manager told me our company typically cuts outside salespeople last, and I did 241% last half (my first half in software). I’m still so new that I’m basically the Forrest Gump of AIOps. It doesn’t hurt that my flagship ARM offering is designed to optimize licensing and cut IT estate creep and cloud costs.
