A story about a pathetic man's downfall [34 Felony Convictions]
Oh shit, watch your ass next time you get some coffee (linky). Starbucks To Begin Sinister 'Phase Two' Of Operation SEATTLE–After a decade of aggressive expansion throughout North America and abroad, Starbucks suddenly and unexpectedly closed its 2,870 worldwide locations Monday to prepare for what company insiders are calling “Phase Two” of the company’s long-range plan.

So you don't have an opinion about the actual case in hand, which is bolstered by Trump repeatedly taking the 5th during depositions today, but you do have an opinion you want to share about something unrelated.

2022 MLB thread
While funny that I brain-farted and meant Rivera, this isn't quite having rain on your wedding day. Being wrong is one thing - half the posts on this board (at least), including mine, are wrong in all sorts of ways. But yes, I definitely named the wrong dude, and yes, you definitely ignored the correction as you always do.

2022 MLB thread
The thread in ABTB about @Helobious is really stupid but yesterday is a perfect example of why it was created. Helobius makes a clearly factually incorrect statement (re: Chapman being the first to use Enter Sandman) trying to correct someone, is shown using several sources that he is wrong, and then just ignores the correction. I am not sure he has ever posted "oh, I didn't realize that, thanks". For someone as wrong as he often is, this is the most tiresome bit.

I sorta liked Pink Floyd... but Fuck Roger Waters' political dumbassery!
Thank you for the article referenced above. I haven't read it yet but will. I am not an expert on Russian affairs but do tend to believe that this is very little we could have done that would have changed Russia's action predating and leading to either the current or the 2014 invasions. But, let's say we could have and failed. Your quote from Freeman implies that there is a now an option in which Russia does not fight to the last Ukrainian. At this point we have two primary options: diplomatic means (which I would argue is the same as do nothing, given the lack of any result) or assist the Ukrainians. Maybe doing nothing results in fewer Ukrainians, I don't know, but if it results in fewer deaths it is only because they have conquered another people. I don't see how that is any less a failure of diplomacy.

I do not think Chomsky is an idiot by any means but this is a great example of an idiotic statement, that "the U.S. must choose urgent diplomacy over military escalation". @MC Fresh Breath, can you think of even a faintly plausible diplomatic policy / action that results in Russia ceasing the invasion and killing Ukrainians? Or is the correct response to allow this to happen? I can actually understand a POV that says we shouldn't intervene and allow Russia to invade (I don't agree, but I understand), but how would that be "urgent diplomacy"? What does that even mean?

Trivia/History thread
Yeah - even if you hadn't seen that before it's not a long list of pitchers who pitched to both Roger Maris and Barry Bonds. Sammy is not a single-season HR record holder since McGuire beat him in 98.
-
Trivia/History thread
Nope. An exercise left to the reader is to determine who the last three single-season HR record holders are.

I think that was accidental, but "You wouldn't know abou them" was intentional.

Trivia/History thread
I saw this on reddit/baseball but haven't verified myself. At the risk of pulling an @ocugolf, who is the only pitcher to face the last three single-season HR record holders? Bonus: how many homers did he give up to this trio?

I am sure she is referencing AOC holding her hands behind in her back expecting handcuffs when she was arrested at the abortion protest. Now of course she is really really dumb so the reference doesn't land but that's one of the new right wing gotchas.- Running Alt-Right Thread of Mockery and Hypocrisy
Uh, you know that should go in the satirical tweets or funny images or whatever, right? I mean it would be cool if were real but...- Totally legal and totally cool to kill 9-year olds in Houston
Gee Simple Slorch, I wonder why this might be about guns. You can say it should be prosecuted, but it wasn't. Even if he didn't kill the little girl, there is no fucking way it is justifiable to shoot someone leaving after stealing 20 bucks. This doesn't happen without guns. And nobody in this thread is even talking about gun control, just the simple observations that we have a culture that says it's ok to shoot kids if you're trying to shoot someone else.- Totally legal and totally cool to kill 9-year olds in Houston
Yesterday a jury in Harris County no-billed a dude who shot and killed a nine year old because he got confused and fired into the wrong pickup truck. From the linked article: This could go in one of the "What the hell is wrong with ...." threads but seemed relevant. And for those curious, it turns out Earl was not out on bond as that seems to be a popular topic to bring up by certain interests.- A story about a pathetic man's downfall [34 Felony Convictions]

Sure, but the judge will also presumably not just ignore the fact that Elon specifically waived due diligence. Yes Twitter may have understated bot count to a significant degree but it's not like Elon didn't have ample opportunity to review before offer. I am not even a TV lawyer, let alone real one, but wouldn't be surprised if this placed much more of the burden on Elon than on Twitter.- All Encompassing Mortgage and Real Estate Thread
Disingenuous may have been too harsh but even in general situations, whenever I see anyone list only pros of one decision while not acknowledging there are cons (even if the pros significantly outweigh the cons), it makes my Spidey sense tingle. I also don't think the flexibility of moving or home repairs are even specific factors. Those apply to all rent / buy decisions. Now the overall weighting of each factor will 100% vary based on specifics, but they (should be) part of a general framework. Most importantly, I replied to your post just as it was one of the most recent but I certainly wasn't trying to call you out personally or professionally as I know your post isn't the same as a 1:1 conversation.- All Encompassing Mortgage and Real Estate Thread
Not just singling you out but I've seen this similar sentiment on this thread and others. I do believe that for most people, if they can afford to buy then it is a good decision. But I also think it is a bit disingenuous to say "help you make the best financial decision" when you don't include home repair (both $ and time costs) that are avoided by renting as well as employment / quality of life flexibility from renting. Moving sucks and I would be thrilled if I never moved again but if I had to, there is less risk in renting than owning. I totally understand that your post is not would you would necessarily say to an actual client but if I had a realtor / mortgage broker/ advisor ignore the benefits of renting when showing the advantages of equity, I would consider that person a bullshit artist.- Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread

Have you all been living under a rock w/r/t police obligations? There is nothing they can be arrested for. The Supreme Court has literally ruled that police have no legal obligation to protect and/or serve. A cop could just sit there and blow bubbles while watching someone mow down 50 kids and there would be no legal penalty. Conversely they can kill someone in a plaid shirt and suffer no penalty because there was only a department policy against killing someone in a striped shirt. Ok, that last part had just a bit of hyperbole but not the first. There is nothing these shit bags can be arrested for. - Lauren Boobert - Tits and a Gun
