  1. It's obvious he meant to say "Provably" false allegations but if I recall correctly that is only true for one of the accuser. I'm not sure why Derka continues to white knight for this guy but there are still multiple accusers (I believe three more) who have claimed sexual assault. It's certainly possible that all four are bringing false allegations but I sure wouldn't want to be the ownership group or PR person trying to claim that as part of any signing.
  2. Not enshitiffication related (except for the existence of Picard season 2, hey yo) so delete thread ban user, etc., but she will always be high in my heart for her Star Trek alcohol rap.
  3. All of the news sources you use for your Biden information have been consistent that Biden is senile and shits his pants for the last three years. There has been no change in their messaging. You are completely full of shit if you think there's anything that's changed in the last two months other than you trying to defend the obvious incorrectness of those takes.
  4. You know momma was thinking "Shit, now I have to buy some ice cream for $5 a scoop to stop the little bastard's crying. I told him he should wrap the string around his arm but no, he knows better than momma. Damnit!"
  5. As a Rockets fan watching Harden from 2014 - 2020, this whole "guy's he's actually really good on defense, he just has to carry the offense so he's tired" sure sounds really damn familiar.
  6. He is somehow both older than armybrat and crankier than Incredulity.
  7. It's because they don't actually give a shit about Jewish people. They derive marginal value from some combination of making fun of libs, cheering on Revelations, and killing brown people.
  8. Unfortunately I wouldn't hold my breath on that one, the beta amyloid connection with Alzheimer's may not be there after all. The landmark paper that all of the beta amyloid research is based on is being retracted due to manipulated data. It really sucks, that is an incredible amount of research dollars and time being potentially poured down the drain.
  9. I mean, Lennon was a shitty person who left his wife and young child, didn't financially support them, and was physically abusive. Amazing song writer / singer but it kinda fits to be shown at Trump rally TBH.
  10. There are obviously a lot of dynamics at play with (presumably, based just on demographics of this sit) a middle-aged or older white dude suggesting language to a younger Black dude but starting to walk down a road of who gets to use what racial slur when is not a road that I suspect immamac wants to go down, and I don't think it would be a productive road even if he wanted it. Just my opinion and request, you are free to act or not to act on it.
  11. I love the perspective you bring and agree with you on this post but please, can we not with the bolded?
  12. I fully admit that I struggled to come with a better analogy in the edit window, mea culpa. I'll let this drop after this but I'm not even trying to get into chance of intelligent life, chance it comes to us, chance that it's not already extinct, etc. Those are all fun to think about, not trying to shoo those discussions away. I just want people to be honest with the initial assumption, that common statement that you made that there surely has to be life out there. Why? There could be 1E40 planets and still we could not accurately say that life is likely or unlikely because we literally have no idea what the chances of life are, and no way to make even an educated case. Maybe we're multiplying that 1E40 by 10%, maybe be 1E-100%. We don't know. You can WANT there to be life (or want there NOT to be life), write great stories about the implications, make kick-ass movies, etc. But to actually state there has to be life (or even more likely that not to be life) is pure smoke up the posterior.
  13. I 100% agree that it is fun to think about. Let's take the 1^24 stars in the universe, and say each has 10 planets. So we now have 1^25 planets. First assumption, what is the probability of life arising? Is it 10%? 1%? 1E-10%? 1E-50%? We do not have a way to make anything more than a complete guess, and each guess will give drastically different answers to how much life is in the universe. This is why I challenge when you and others say it is so unlikely that Earth has the only life in the universe. I am NOT saying it is unlikely, I'm not say we are alone. I am arguing that even saying likely or unlikely is a fallacy. eddited to add @Brisketexan - as a lawyer, if someone argued in court that because there are 100s of millions of Powerball tickets bought each week that it is impossible to have a week without a winner, would you just let that slide? Or would you argue that we should at least try to estimate the likelihood of getting a winner? You are trying to solve Change of Life = Probability of Life * Number of Planets. We only have one of those values.
  14. I am very familiar with the Drake Equation. It is a list of assumptions that need to be made, it is not the assumptions. What are the values of those assumptions you are using?
  15. Why do you understand that it's just about utterly impossible that we're alone in the universe as intelligent life? What are the assumptions you are making? Any attempt to quantify the probability of life involves literally guessing at key variables. We are trying to draw from an n of 1. There may be life, there may not be, any attempt to judge probability is just wish casting. And that's fine, it's super fun to think about speculate, but trying to draw probabilistic conclusions is pure fallacy.
  16. Can you tell us what research you've done besides watching YouTube videos? Any actual talking to witnesses? Any effort to answer either how or why? It's frankly laughable to see you be so dogmatic about something that can't be known right now (unless you truly believe that we have aliens somewhere and the government is hiding it from us). I think the large majority of skeptics in this thread (myself certainly included) have never said that aliens have 100% not visited Earth, just that it is unlikely for a number of reasons. I am not certain that your observation that a bunch of 50+ year olds have less rigid thinking than 20 year olds is quite the flex that you think it is.
  17. This is also some of the lazy low-hanging bullshit that's easy to dispute. Please show your work on "it is mathematically impossible for there not be other life in the universe". I am super interested in the assumptions you make about likelihood for life.
  18. Makes me so patriotic, remembering our own efforts in the Revolutionary War.
  19. I realize this stretches the definition of band but the first thing that come to my mind was Time Out of Mind by Bob Dylan. He had a LOT of woofs in the 80's through mid-90s, then TOOM, Love and Theft, Modern Times, etc., almost created a mini-prime for him.
