"Hi Alvarez & Marsal, I'd like you to prepare a full valuation report on the territory of Greenland for a pending offer to purchase. Please discount for lack of marketability and weather."
  2. In case you haven't been paying attention, we've been doing this sort of thing for quite some time now. So, whatever "legitimization" you're concerned about occured decades ago.
  3. I mean, I don't like it, but I also think you're being naive to "realpolitik" considerations. The US is the most powerful country in the world. We are NOT the most free society or the most just. That's propoganda and no one else around the world thinks that. We often act as an empire (which we are), protect our long-term interests, and generally act transactionally. This is what is occurring. I don't think either is "good", but I'm certainly not willing to go to war with China over Taiwan, nor am I willing to go to war with Russia over Ukraine.
  4. I don't like the precedent this sets either, but the "this gives China an opening for Taiwan" crowd needs to tone it down. If they're going to take Taiwan, they're going to do it whether or not we ousted Maduro. I would bet that the US has signaled to China that it will live with a Chinese takeover of Taiwan once those chips are made in the US. Similarly, I wouldn't be shocked if Russia acquiesance on this was an off the record part of the Ukraine negotiations. None of this is "fair" or "right", but arguably all of it is in our long term interests, and I can live with that on the spectrum of Trump's historical decisionmaking.
  5. I live in Spain and there are a shit ton of Venezuelans refugees here. They all despise Maduro. He has cratered the country (GDP is down 80% or something), imprisioned and murdered thousands, promised free elections in exchange for sanctions relief then engaged in one of the most brazen election thefts of all time. All the while (at an absolute minimimum) facilitating some pretty signficant drug/cartel activitiy and helping other countries avoid sanctions with Venzeuelan oil. I am about as stringent an isolationist as you will find. But no one is going to shed a tear around the world for Maduro and it's pretty incredible to me that he continually acted as he has while sitting on the world's largest oil reserves. You'll see some bland "concerned" comments from the usual suspects, but a lot of silence and a lot of quiet agreement that this may have been for the best. I hate that we'll have folks involved in the transition, but if you are committed to taking the step of pluking Maduro from his bed, zero US involvement in the transition is probably a messier/more de-stabilitzing result. He is no friend to the US or the globe, I'm glad he's gone, and I hope to god we don't fuck up the transition.
  6. 20 minutes of flexibility work 3 times a week.
  7. All this with his dad dressed like a Dallas Buyer's Club Indiana Jones.
  8. This is one of the things I first noticed when I moved out of the US, along with produce going bad in the fridge way faster - no drug company commericals on TV.
  9. Not a ghost exactly, but I had a very incredible experience when I was working in London maybe 4 years ago. I was walking to work, airpods in, and some random British lady stopped me on the street. I figured she was lost or something, so I stopped (she wasn't handing out leaflets or whatever) and, out of nowhere, she said something that was deeply personal and meaningful to me and said it was being communicated to her by my grandfather, who had passed a couple of years ago. My grandfather was and is my hero and the person I admire the most. I was thunderstruck. I asked how on earth she knew that and how I could trust that it was real. She then paused, and after a few seconds, told me the single item I took from my grandfather's house when he passed and the location of my grandfather's hidden stash of money that only he and I knew about. She then just walked away. I still can't explain it and I think about it almost every day.

I disagree with this. We're too soft. Too comfortable. We're going to sit on our hands, maybe go to some protests and dress up like a frog for the Insta, and complain about it on Reddit. But we won't DO anything about it in a real sense. I fully expect that, with AI + Palantir + some pols with a real taste for authoritarianism, we'll be firmly within the grasp of a surveillance state within 5 years. I doubt we'll be like mainland China, but I fully expect we'll be Hong Kong.

I mean, I hate Trump as much as anyone, but also fuck John Bolton.
  12. Just need to get her an actual shirt or jersey instead of this Rob Lowe looking shit she has.
  13. You underestimate them. Imagine telling yourself that America is in the position that it is presently in 2016. Think how different things are. We aren't going to be Nazi Germany, but I do think we're inarguably headed towards the Mainland China experience.
  14. I live in Europe, and this is my experience exactly. Super easy to get an appointment and super easy to be seen if you pay for private care, but God help if you've got something strange. I had a fairly significant immune thing that went undiagnosed for a while because the doctors here kept telling me it was allergies and not wanting to run more tests. There's also zero coordination between doctors. For example, if you go to Doctor X who sends you to Doctor Y, they do not coordinate. YOU have to do all the coordination (e.g., bring the results, tell Doctor X what happened, etc.). There are pros and cons of every system.

I've read speculation that she was asked by US intelligence to, while conveniently flying over some important islands and bases held by Imperial Japan, maybe snap a few photos. That wouldn't shock me in the least.

Briskets looking like the Oracle of Delphi right about now.

Hopefully Matt Forney won't need to go within 100 yards of an elementary school in his crusade against the American left.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on this press conference. Trump is the most dishonest person who has ever held office. If he fell, he’d never acknowledge it, and if he had a terminal diagnosis, he’d also never say anything (and neither did Biden). This is going to be a classic Trump off the handles press conference where he says a bunch of crazy shit and changes the narrative. I’ve accepted that this mother fucker will live to the age of Old Testament Abraham and I encourage all of you to do the same.

I remember hearing the most of Portland was built before they knew they’d get real significant earthquakes. Only a percentage of the buildings are retrofitted. So all of that city is going up in smoke if the big one happens.
  21. If it’s a standard Silicon Valley style cookie cutter company, the board is probably in a rough spot. He will own a lot of stock, and since they’re VC backed, it’s unlikely they can repurchase it, even if they term him for cause. He has to gtfo, but you also can’t have a hostile stockholder with 20%+ of the shares.
  22. I thought it impossible for him to paint himself the victim in this situation, but clearly I underestimated him.
  23. Are we losing recruitments because we’re too poor? Or are we getting recruits because we’re flush? It’s hard to keep up sometimes.
  24. These people's minds are so fucking broken. At what point are the commissioners and judge liabile for gross negligence? I used to live in San Francisco. I moved there for work. My family is from a tiny west Texas town. My grandfather passed in 2019, so I took a late night plane in order to get there for the funeral. When I arrived, the wake was already over, but the funeral director let me in to see the casket before the funeral. After a few minutes, he started asking me where I lived, what I did, the usual, and when I said San Francisco, he went on this huge rant about what a hell hole it was, Obama, etc. All while I'm sitting here in an otherwise empty church room trying to mourn my grandfather.
