  1. I LOL at the folks who are like "why didn't RBG just retire at the end of Obama's tenure?" Did you miss the whole Merrick Garland thing?
  2. Having serious Bru McCoy flashbacks/PTSD with this whole ordeal.
  3. You know who else reads books about submarines?
  4. If we hire Gary Kubiak I will give up football.
  5. The only positive I can think of for Cristobal is that I'm confident he'll cheat more in recruiting.
  6. I did thoroughly enjoy the tidbit that Kelson reminds Klatt each anniversary of the hit on Twitter for literally no reason.
  7. I feel like I have put up with a lot over the last ten years. I've seen us kick both halves because we screwed up the coin toss. I've witnessed our athletic director have to get on a plane to convince the Tulsa offensive coordinator to take a huge raise to come coach here. I watched us lose to Kansas and have like 4 extra points blocked in a single game. Hiring some washed up NFL loser will literally break me.
  8. Why would Urban need to "signal" he's not taking the job? Wouldn't he just...decline the job?
  9. My grandmother, who lived in Abilene for 80+ years (shocked Abilene hasn't been mentioned), always said Midland/Odessa was the worst place she's ever been.
  10. I want to believe, but if there is anything the last 10 years have taught me, it is that hope is your enemy.
  11. Well that seems promising
  12. At what point is this sedition? This is off the rails, they're requesting that the election basically be disregarded on no evidence, and demanding that people go to jail. This is dangerous stuff, and I think we're approaching criminal conduct.
  13. Yeah, but Austin is a pretty small legal community (most firms only have a small footprint). If you're looking to transition into a decently sized Austin office of a law firm, you're pretty much looking at there, Winstead and Graves Daugherty. I wouldn't put any stock in Powers being there. Tuggle is a really well regarded estate planning lawyer, so I'm sure some big wig (UT connected or otherwise) had his or her plane put in Tuggle's name for anonymity.
  14. Why the stop in Allegheny County, PA before going to Columbus?
  15. Look, Joe Brady is an offensive genius. What he did at LSU last year was remarkable. He CANNOT be the choice. He's been an NCAA D1 coach for ONE year.
  16. Doesn't UT need to post the vacancy and invite public applicants? I seem to recall some sort of waiting period when Tom was hired.
  17. Well, sure, but I imagine the extension was done via a simple amendment that basically extended the term and said his comp is now increased from X to Y. But I haven't seen the extension, so who knows.
  18. I haven't seen the extension posted, but I don't know why Herman would have agreed to that.
  19. Relatedly, "1-0 Culture, LLC" is about as cringe worthy as I'd expect from Herman.
  20. Here's Tom's contract (without the recent extension, couldn't find that) for those so inclined: https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/6848d600da55db1efc9d299a0d4f9d76/Herman_contract.pdf
  21. Didn't Bobby say Cristobal is off limits due to the Phil Knight/Nike relationship?
  22. Exactly. You advised these citizens that it was okay to vote this way and now you're trying to throw out their vote because you don't like the result. I can't imagine the remedy would be to disenfranchise all of these mail in voters who voted in a way you told them was okay (oh, and it is the middle of a pandemic). I truly have no idea what the remedy could be - do make the potentially effected people vote in person? Do we even know who those people are? Could you organize this "re-vote" before the inauguration? Does any of these actually matter since Biden has enough electoral votes even without PA?
  23. CDC did an interview with Chip Brown over the summer. Brown asked him what he looks for when he hires corches, and CDC said his single biggest requirement is that the person has built and maintained a program twice. He said he didn't want a corch who had a few successful years at one place and that's it. I thought that was a really interesting answer because (a) that definitely didn't describe Herman and (b) maybe means he won't be enthralled with a guy like Billy Napier.
  24. Do the Surly litigators think there is any real merit to the PA constitutional argument regarding the mail in ballots? Of course it is utterly laughable that republicans are seeking to declare a law that they voted for unconstitutional, but if there is something to it, that could present quite the cluster. What sort of remedy would the court be likely to grant? I can't see them throwing out all of the ballots and calling it a day - I have no idea what sort of remedy would work here.
