  1. Followed up with the two TikTok chicks. The first hasn't updated yet; probably got raptured and is laughing at all of us who got left behind. The other one posted this last night:
  2. Oh, I'm sure they keep track of what you stream, and that gets captured in whatever calculus they use to measure viewership, as well. For example, I watched the full monologue last night before bed on YouTube. I just checked, and it's now been viewed 9.9 million times in the last 12 hours. They pay attention to that. Further evidence, Kimmel specifically mentioned that folks were going to have to view his show on other platforms, mentioning YouTube specifically, because Sinclair/Nextstar won't air his show.
  3. The front blew through here last night, bringing storms and about an inch of rain. It's an absolutely lovely 67Β°F at the moment with sunny skies and a cool breeze.
  4. Modified quote from the world-famous Waco Christmas lights story.
  5. NE corner on Quordle did me in because of that final letter. 6. In an "every man for himself" world, no single individual can stand up to a powerful corporate entity, to which SCOTUS has bequeathed the rights of a citizen.
  7. Agreed. Simply commenting on the general esthetic of the game on screen. The color combo of the two teams playing really just popped under the lights, or at least I thought so.

  9. I hadn't heard of them before, but after watching that one, I've watched some others. Really, really good stuff. Thanks for the introduction.
  10. That whole Elephant Graveyard video was posted elsewhere by someone a few weeks ago, and it was really great. Highly recommend viewing. Whoever it was, I think I might owe them a Hook'em. Here it is for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
  11. Dammit! Forgot the link to the OG South African preacher's prediction:
  12. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/23/us/rapture-tiktok-sept-23.html The Rapture is upon us, according to TikTokers, some of whom have latched on to a prediction that on Tuesday, Sept. 23 β€” today β€” Jesus Christ will return to Earth and take true believers to Heaven. Some evangelical Christians believe the Bible predicts such an event, known as the Rapture, which essentially marks the beginning of the end of human history. They interpret parts of the Christian New Testament as describing the Rapture, including a passage from First Thessalonians that says followers of Christ β€œwho are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” It is not uncommon for various individuals and groups to predict specific dates for the Rapture, sometimes through interpreting passages and events in the Bible, and sometimes claiming they received visions. None of the predictions have obviously come to pass. In recent days, a prediction spread through social media that the Rapture would occur Tuesday, and on TikTok, the hashtag #rapturenow has over 311,000 videos β€” some of which endorsed the prediction, while many others poked fun at it. For those who believe in the prediction, the TikTokers had some advice: Don’t make any weekend plans, leave your phone unlocked and your passwords accessible for those left behind, and maybe leave your house and car unlocked. With the keys easily accessible if possible. Why today? The date of Sept. 23, 2025, appears to have originated from Joshua Mhlakela of South Africa. Though news reports have widely described him as a pastor, he said in a YouTube video from June: β€œI’m just a simple person, no title. I’m not an apostle, I’m not a pastor, I’m not a bishop. I’m just a believer.” In the video, he says that Jesus came to him in a dream in 2018 and told him, β€œOn the 23rd and the 24th of September, 2025, I will come to take my church.” The context, as Mr. Mhlakela understood it, was the 2026 FIFA World Cup. β€œHe was telling me that by June 2026, the world is gearing up toward the World Cup,” he said, but because chaos would descend after the Rapture, β€œthere will be no World Cup in 2026.” His prediction somehow gathered momentum on the internet. Searches for β€œrapture” and β€œthe rapture Tuesday” started to climb around Sept. 20, according to Google Trends. While some TikTok creators appeared to believe that the Rapture was imminent and were encouraging their followers to convert to Christianity, more greeted the prediction with satirical advice. One creator said that those who wanted to ensure they would ascend to Heaven should place items that might contain demonic energy, like designer clothing, outside their houses. Another discussed how to style outfits to match the angel wings they would soon receive.

  14. Geezus, man, I'm really sorry that happened. Truly. That sucks. **** So, I've quoted only the stuff from your post that I'd like to address: I'm kinda in the same boat as you, often traveling around the country, and also having a local credit union. It used to be that I'd get calls from Calcutta or wherever from an unrecognized number. The first time it happened, I didn't answer (for obvious reasons) and was then quickly surprised when my card didn't work at the gas pump. I then called the 1-800 number on the back of the card, and they itemized the questionable transactions specifically, asking if I had authorized each one, like checking off boxes. All of them were good, and they released my card. Nowadays, I also get text alerts, like you, asking me to call a number to verify transactions. Again, they are the ones who tell me, unprompted, which specific transaction raised a red flag, and I only tell them whether or not I approved the purchase. Based solely on the above, I'd say your trick in the future should be along the lines of simply asking what raised a red flag, making them disclose whether they're legit or not. Again, I'm really sorry you got fucked and hope this doesn't put you out too badly or linger as a pain in the ass.
  15. That’s weird. The YouTube clips are released in real-time as the program is actually being aired. It’s tonight’s show. The interview is always a second clip, so you get to watch the entire episode.
  16. It's not his best effort, granted, but I don't know of anyone doing better satire in the MSM-ish right now.

  21. Used to have this t-shirt back in the 90s. It might be time to get a new one.
  22. I don't begrudge those who use it as a megaphone to fight the good fight. But I didn't post on Twitter before I nuked my old account, and I don't post on Blue Sky with this one. It's simply the desire not to give any traffic to a site that actively promotes reich-wing neo-Nazis.
  23. Yep to all that. At the University of Texas, the planning program is part of the School of Architecture; hence, its popularity in non-architecture contexts in Austin, and city planning obviously involves urban design stuff. Man, I got really sick of hearing about Andres Duany and what we derisively called his new sub-urbanism because of its inauthenticity back then and we were punk planning students. Anyway, I kinda wanna say that I vaguely recall someone mentioning that the term was imported from Portland, so the general PNW region makes sense. For my part, I've mostly worked in the economic development field, but that obviously involves a lot of land use issues and revitalization projects (rehab, adaptive reuse, etc.) and often involves folks from your realm. A name you probably know is Peter Calthorpe. I'm not at my old firm anymore, but one of the two principals at the time came to Austin from your neck of the woods and was good friends with him, so we partnered a few times and have done some work up there in Redmond, Puyallup, and Longview (he wasn't involved in any of those particular projects). Generally speaking, revitalization shit is my game, but you only eat what you kill.
  24. If you've never come across this channel and are interested in a more secular discussion of religious studies, this is a good one. It's really great. Certainly, I'm not a religious scholar, nor a believer, but I love this guy's videos. He does an excellent job breaking down the concept of the "antichrist" for early Christians. 18 minutes
