  1. Earlier today, there was a brownout that caused a multi-vehicle accident north of Pecos, and they had to shut down the highway from there to Carlsbad for a while.
  2. Yeah, about that: The dimensions of the outbreak, which has already killed one child, are unclear. The official case number in the Texas outbreak is most likely an undercount, said Katherine Wells, the director of public health in Lubbock, Texas. The outbreak has largely spread within a community of Mennonites in Gaines County, who historically have had lower vaccination rates and often avoid interacting with the health care system. Ms. Wells said she believed many of those families did not seek medical attention for measles and have not been accounted for in the state’s official numbers. “I think it’s probably in the hundreds,” she said. “We know that some of their schools were closed with lots of sick children, but we don’t know who those children were.” Full article: https://archive.is/Zwb3H
  3. PHIL: "Texas is really ugly, you know that? I mean, what could anyone possibly like about this state?" DORMAN: "I like the way it's shaped."

  5. In all honesty, I think it's a recognition they don't have the offensive capability (e.g., manpower or willingness to sacrifice lives) to take it back and/or deal with the ensuing evacuation along the southerly strategic route, connecting it along the Melitopol to Mariupol line. At this point, I think Zelenskyy would be willing to cede Crimea and Donbas, but that's, unfortunately, not what's in the cards.
  6. The wrestling shit isn't new (still funny), which is absolutely true about how many of our least educated brethren see shit and has been mentioned multiple times in this and other CR threads. What I'm really glad about, though, is that Stewart eventually gets to some of the ideology that's in the mix here. In fact, years ago (2014), Bannon gave a speech at some Vatican Council bullshit thing, basically laying out that Judeo-Christianity (Christendom, as defined by the Rechts) is in a clash of civilizations that's defined by the boundaries of religion, race, etc. Basically, that speech proposes the alignment of "the West" with Russia's assistance against other non-Christian cultures, especially Islam. This was an hour-long kind of speech whose audio I posted, maybe on the old site, but I can't find it now at the moment. Yeah, I think this is, more or less, the vision/plan. The oligarchs will figure it out and agree to whatever terms. Regardless, the US pulls back from the rest of the world to focus on our "sphere of influence," as outlined by the Monroe Doctrine. Perhaps the intention is to make Europe part of Russia's sphere/turf (at least the eastern half) while China takes on eastern Asia and Taiwan, specifically, which I believe is being delayed to allow for Trump and Putin to sort our Euroshit out first and while TSMC ramps up chip production in Arizona. I've no shame in sounding like a conspiracist on this angle, even if it isn't entirely true. Aside from Krasnov/Trump aligning with authoritarian, culturally conservative, and affirmatively "Christian" Russia as some sort of "plan," I do honestly believe that a "deal" of some sort has been made. Edit: I don't know if this is exactly what I was talking about, and I don't think it is, but it's at least a part of his thesis that Islam and Sharia Law are going to take over the West, which sounds so fucking quaint, and anti-capitalist, now.
  7. It's like the color spectrum: ROYGBIV. The stated intent is: Yellow = Easiest Green = Next easiest Blue = Next hardest Purple = Hardest I actually read something in the last few weeks (I can't remember where) that someone looked into how guesses actually play out, and since the game started a few years ago, that's been the overall result, according to whatever data that person was able to get a hold of. I'll see if I can track it down. From my personal perspective, it feels like I've been getting blues/purples before yellows/greens more often, too, but that's only been in the last month or so. Maybe? I don't know if that's really the case, but I'll also say the game has had at least a couple of puzzle masters, and the difficulty level seems to swing back and forth over time. It could also just be stretches of bad luck or whatever affecting perception, but I wouldn't get too worked up or worried about it. It's just a game, though, that I generally play at night right before bed or in the morning with coffee. Edit: I don't think I made up the analysis results, but no dice on finding it.
  8. Probably a copy/paste of a tweet that's recycling 10-day-old news which, to be honest, would be easy to miss in all the other bullshit that's been going on. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/the-potential-impact-of-a-trump-takeover-of-usps

  10. I dunno. They're apparently giving us Gaza, the new Club Dead on the Med?
  11. The Senator could be referencing the side we've switched to.
  12. Yes, it includes what's already been approved and is in the pipeline. All military aid has been cut.
  13. Don't know if Icono/Macklemore is into the tech part of this shit, but it sounds akin to the New Right monarchy he's obsessed with. In a nutshell, Yarvin's Dark Enlightenment political worldview is that the REAL power in the U.S. resides in an informal collaboration of universities and the mainstream media (that he calls "the Cathedral") which collude to sway public opinion. He admires the former Chinese Communist leader Deng Xiaoping for his "pragmatic and market-oriented authoritarianism," believes America's commitment to equality and justice "erodes social order," and advocates for an American "monarch" to dissolve elite academic institutions and media outlets asap. A regular speaker at various Libertarian and techno-fascist conferences, Yarvin's position is that democratic governments are inefficient and wasteful and should be replaced with sovereign corporations whose "shareholders" elect an executive with total power over the country/corporation. As Yarvin explains it, "Unencumbered by liberal-democratic procedures, the executive could rule like a CEO-Monarch." And just in case it still isn't abundantly clear what Curtis Yarvin thinks is the solution to what ails America, here it is in his most straightforward phrasing: "If Americans want to change their government, they're going to have to get over their dictator-phobia."
  14. Go google the word "hurricane" and then click the News header right now. This is "the news."
  15. *he was run over. Learn to speak English properly, GRUhorn. It's now *our* official national language. You might perceive that as a trivial grammatical error, but that would be an incorrect assumption. No, it's an assault on our glorious mother tongue. Continue to insult or debase it in such a manner, and you will face consequences.
  16. Listened to a lot of K-Geezer back when it came out, too, and had also just moved to Austin. Pretty sure I first heard it on that station.
  17. This is the spirit of Texas I miss. Proud? Yes. Boastful? Yes. Confident? Yes. Fun? Yes. Humorous? Yes. Welcoming? Yes. Gotdammit, a fucking aggy wrote the best song in the last half-century that captures the Texas essence I miss.
  18. "When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal, by definition." "He who saves his Country does not violate any Law." "L'État, c'est moi."
  19. Here's a little secret about the coalition. It's now more or less evolved into a political group of minority or underprivileged voices for covering each others’ backs, which is why the GQP focuses on and is successful with the time-honored divide and conquer strategy. And, yes, the Democrats, who are sometimes aligned with Progressives, should fully embrace this fact and get a whole lot better about leading with their economic message to Labor.
