  1. I'm hearing from a couple former coworkers of Nico at Nike who all say Nico was forced to make the trade and it wasn't his decision at all.
  2. Youtube video from the above reference:
  3. OK The Rangers went nearly 5 years without even being talked about by local sports radio until their recent run to the world series. They got so little traction by local media that the main Rangers blogger, Jamey Newberg, would complain about it incessantly.
  4. 3rd most important franchise in its own market? Que? Behind the Cowboys and who else???? Certainly not the Rangers.
  5. The guy who actually wrote the article, Ethan Strauss, said that Nico wasn't the guy who called Steph, Stephawn (the actual name mistake in the article is Stephawn not Seth). In fact he was on a Dallas area podcast just yesterday and pointed out totally missed the point of his article. If anything the thrust was that Nico was a relationship manager and not an executive with decision making powers. He was basically a guy who made sure the athletes were happy. Steph was one of his clients but Kobe was his main client. The top decision maker for NIke didnt even attend the meeting with Steph, which, as Ethan points out in the article, more or less demonstrates what the prevailing winds were indicating as to the level of importance of Steph to the Nike portfolio at the time, (he wasnt). He goes onto say that Nico essentially peter principled as a GM after Mark sold the team. The plan was for Mark to be the defacto GM and Nico to curry favor with players he had relationships with. When Mark sold to the Adelson's Nico was essentially promoted and now took on a role he was never supposed to have in practice. Strauss also theorized that the negotiations between Nico and Pelinka may have reverted back to the dynamic they had when Pelinka was Kobe's agent and Nico was his Nike rep. As a Nike rep for a client such as Kobe the biggest job description is to please your client and those associated with him ie his agent. Everything reported about the trade negotiations between Nico and Pelinka plays out as though Nico had a pavlovian response to please Pelinka as he did when he was Kobe's agent.
  6. I wouldn't. Every Mav fan I know agrees with the sentiment.
  7. It makes sense that wholesale changing out of guards and wings to the extent we did this year would require more time to develop chemistry than what would've been the case had we just changed out bigs and forwards.
  8. The NBA has officially turned into the WWE. Just storylines in service of their stars. In this case the Lakers.
  9. What tha fuck does the coaching staff have to do with the trade? Are you new to American sports? This is the Adelsons.
  10. If the league can block the Chris Paul deal they have to block this one. This absolute bullshit.
  11. Because every top 10 team back then had multiple NBA players and a couple of them were even upper classmen.
  12. He's a fucking turnover machine. There was a pass he made in the first half that shouldve been a relatively easy pass back to Tre at the top of the key. He not only bulleted the pass for absolutely no reason, but he threw it like 3 or 4 feet inside of the key and it would;ve been intercepted if not for Tre's great hands. RT shouldve gotten Nic Codie or VInson ready during the time Kent was injured. Codie actually has a nice touch around the rim, but he obviously gets nervous and isnt completely sure of himself on the court due to his inexperience.
  13. yeah, I was more or less rejecting out to half court the notion that Arch and the Mannings operate in the same manner as what is typical of modern day college football players. Let's go down the list: 1. The kid literally refused to accept college offers when they were given to him. There's a story of Ed Orgeron offering him when he was a high school freshman or sophomore and Arch responding with "I'm sorry, sir I'm not accepting any offers" 2. Didnt't go to any of the typical rivals, 247, under armor, or elite 11 camps 3. First tweet was to announce his commitment to UT and has barely tweeted since. 4. Didnt accept NIL to start off his career. The list goes on and on. So all the people who traffic in the internet fodder about him or who predicted that he would transfer or leave after 1 year of playing haven't been paying attention and are totally off the mark. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he stayed 3 years, but one thing's for certain there's a much greater chance of him staying 3 than there is of him leaving after 1 year of starting.
  14. When we rebound first misses our defense gives the effect of looking totally different even though it's honestly the same level of defense we've been playing for a few games now sans the rebounding.
  15. Well, last year's team was supposed to have a 6'5" pg and a 6'8" wing to play alongside those short guards, but alas they changed their mind late in the process.
  16. It depends on what you mean when you say better constructed than last year. This year's interior play wouldn't be as big of a drawback if we were still in the big 12 (that league is down in this area as well), but in this year's SEC our interior play is a major deficiency. However, the overall guard/wing play is certainly much better than last year's.
  17. A lot of this may just be tap dancing for the gringo and telling you what he thinks you want to hear.
  18. He gets a lot of open looks off of cuts to the elbow but he seems to like to pound the shit out of the ball to get into rhythm rather than the quick hitters they set him up for at the elbow.
  19. If we had a true beast on the boards and/or a Disu like scorer in the interior this would actually be a great squad. Our inability to rebound our opponents first miss makes the defense look worse than it actually is.
  20. Despite their performance in the first half they're an atrocious 3pt shooting team. Atrocious teams from the 3pt and ft line are ripe to get upset in the tourney.
  21. Thank you for your sacrifice.
  22. Do you ever post about Texas basketball on any subject other than something concerning a coach potentially being fired?
  23. i feel like we were in a similar position to start conference play last year. I believe we started off 1-3 with a miracle win at CIncy so we probably should've started off 0-4. While I'm like many of you and dont view Rodney as a coach commensurate with the quality of bball we should expect at UT, one quality that I do like about him is he's not going to give up his job easily. He's fully aware that he's fortunate as fuck to have this job and will proceed accordingly. I'm certain that these guys will fight for him down the stretch and improve over the course of the season as all of RT's teams seem to have done over the past couple of years he's been at the helm.
  24. Shhhhhh.... .....dont telll anyone, but it's college basketball. All the teams seem like they suck for prolonged periods of time. Our main issue is we're weak as fuck in the paint and cant consistently rebound for shit.
