  1. Penix has like 500+ passing attempts this season and has only been sacked 5 times. Their pass blocking is really good.
  2. The only thing that will hurt the league a bit with UT and OU leaving is no longer having a round robin schedule where everyone plays each other twice. I guess next year ( our last year in league) we'll go back to playing KU or a few of the teams only once.
  3. Michigan is still suffering from a pre-NIL psychology of not wanting to "lower themselves" by paying athletes. Their NIL infrastructure is nowhere close to what it should be.
  4. Right now, in my eyes the Texas basketball program is analogous to LSU football circa 2001 in Saban's 2nd year. At that point LSU routinely sent loads of talent to the NFL and despite some recent success the ridiculous level that the program would reach over the next 20 years wasn't exactly predictable to anyone back then. However, all the necessary ingredients required for their coming success was already present within the program and state at that time. By that same token for Texas basketball, all of the previous hurdles preventing schools from the state from having sustained college basketball success have been slowly removed over the past couple of decades. Everything from instate skill development and talent busting at the seams, to newly established NIL rules reducing the reluctance of some schools from getting too heavily involved in the basketball recruiting muck. I really don't think it's clear to most Longhorns fans outside of maybe the most ardent basketball aficionados how good Texas high school basketball is compared to the rest of the country right now. Having a guy like Beard (hopefully keeping him if we can) at the helm of the program at this moment in time is a godsend in terms of taking advantage of all that is available for building and sustaining a championship level program.
  5. Two of five consensus #1 high school bball recruits have come from the state of Texas. 2020 Cade Cunningham 2024 Tre Johnson. I meant to quote your other post but Texas bball recruiting has passed Texas football recruiting in terms of elite talent production.
  6. Jonathan Hankins our best run stopping DT.
  7. When did this reverse in course happen? I thought you were a Musselman fan.
  8. Whatever we do I want an offensive specialist as a head coach. There's no way we're going to get another master marketer on the same level as Beard so in lieu of having a salesman in the same vein as him we're going to need a style of play that sells itself to the fans who need shiny objects to be all in with basketball. Musselman would probably be the closest thing to the salesman that Beard is with the added bonus of having an offensive focus, but it may be tough to lure him away from Arkansas. If he is a no go then I'd like to kick the tires on the dude at Arizona to test whether he'd be interested. There was a time where it would've been blasphemous for Arizona's head basketball coach to leave for UT, but with the way the tables have turned in basketball recruiting circles with the state of Texas probably have the best high school basketball talent in the country I think it's a reasonable possibility.
  9. Moore still has that Boise St in him. He has some sort of fealty to calling trick plays that don't even build off of previously called plays. I noticed the same thing with Harsin in his lone year as the Longhorns OC. On your second critique it's similar to some of the issues us Longhorn fans see with Sark, Moore tends to not build counters off of his plays and tightens his grip and starts to become less diverse in his play calling if teams effectively adjust to what he's doing.
  10. You can sense their somber tone when they do their halftime and postgame analysis, especially with Rob and Alexi.
  11. Man this sucks!!
  12. I agree with SLX. I like the sum of Arizona's components better than ours. Of course that's partly due to my bias being tilted towards skilled offensive teams. Our defense is orders of magnitude better than theirs, but they have a lot of players who are extremely efficient at putting the ball in the basket and clearly have the potential to be one of the four #1 seeds at the season's end.
  13. Every other year Courtney Ramey shot fairly well from 3. His freshman year he shot 38% and then he swung down to 31% his sophomore year and back up to 41% his junior year. Last year he shot 35%. Too bad he didn't come back for his 5th year as he's shooting 50% right now on his typical up swing year.
  14. I thought Greggo was on Rhyner's podcast at some point in time. Or did that not happen?
  15. Yeah, prior to the portal Saban was recruiting in the realm of 15 to 20% more scholarship players than most teams do the constant roster turnover he created with medical redshirts, greyshirt, and an assortment of other classifications he used.
  16. Zimmer was an analyst on Deion's JSU staff and Zimmer's son or nephew was a coach on the staff. Pretty sure eventually bringing him on as a DC was always part of the plan.
  17. Corby didn't turn in 3 of his picks. He better take an L on all three games.
  18. Good ole American exceptionalism doing work there.
  19. This is a reasonable take, but given their history of WTF personnel decision I'm unwilling to give them the benefit of the doubt until something concrete is available.
  20. You're not exactly the guy I expect to see a fair and impartial analysis on Cooper from. And as the above proves you're living up to those expectations. Not a single proven accusation in the bunch.
  21. This is what I don't get about cutting Amari. He's was anything but a diva. It's almost as if his quiet nature worked against him with people filling in the gaps and attempting to interpret his lack of verbosity as something passive aggressive. His one utterance that people point to is that time he said that something about getting the ball to play makers. Something that Troy Aikman reiterated as well after our loss to San Fran. In an organization with numerous WTF decisions, trading Amari for a 5th will remain at the top of the recent list for a long time.
  22. I dont think you paid much attention to Sochan if you believe they're in any way similar. Sochan is a Boris Diaw type in that he's fairly heady and savvy with the ball and is sort of a playmaker from the front court. Plus he's nowhere near as athletic as Mitchell. In fact the reason I keep comparing Mitchell to Kendall Brown is because at this time last year Brown was mocking right in the same range as Mitchell is today and Sochan wasn't in the first round. With that being said, I've couched all my comments about Mitchell in the framing that he hasn't demonstrated an offensive skillset, YET. Shit, for all I know he could have plus wing skills that we haven't seen 5 games into the season. And it's too early to claim anything definitively about where he'd go in the draft. I just don't believe that 6'7" or 6'8" player that only demonstrates elite athleticism is a lock for a top 20 pick, much less the first round. And I made my initial post about Mitchell's draft prospects in response to belief that he's a sure bet to leave early. I'm hopeful that he'd return if he starts to slip like Brown did last year. They're are extremely similar players.
  23. Calm down we played the 323rd ranked team in the nation and have faced 1 team inside the 170s. An elite athlete like Mitchell is going to look absolutely dominant against that slate of opponents. Like I said before, he's an elite athlete with a limited offensive skillset. If he demonstrates some wing skills he could possibly go in 1st like Tari Eason, but without that and depending on the depth of the draft this year he may slip like both Greg Brown and Kendall Brown did in years past. Tari Eason at least displayed some wing skills. We've yet to see that with Mitchell.
  24. I hope this doesn't mean we're out on this guy who is not only the #1 player in the state but the number #1 player in the nation in the 2024 class.
