  1. I hear you, but nowadays a 6'7"-6'8" forward typically needs to bring some decent ball skills to the table to be a first round lock. But maybe with all the switching Beard likes to do he may show that he's a plus wing defender like Tari Eason and get a team to really like him in the first round.
  2. He profiles as a similar athlete to Baylor’s Kendall Brown on last year’s team. In the preseason Brown mocked as a late lottery pick and as his lack of offensive skills became more apparent throughout the season he continued to slip in the mocks until finally he went with the 48th pick in the actual draft. I’ve yet to see much of an offensive skill set in Mitchell that prevents the same thing from happening to him.
  3. The biggest criticism of Mac Jones when he was coming out was how few times he went beyond his first read. During Sark's year with Mac Jones he had the lowest % of attempts beyond his 1st read in all of college football (9.72% compared to other notable QBs like Justin Field, Trevor Lawrence, Kellen Mond, and Sam Ehlinger who were at 19.09%, 16.99%, 16.55%, and 14.37% respectively). Scheming first reads wide ass open doesn't seem like an offense that is based on progressions.
  4. Probably for the same reason that Jordan Barnett transferred
  5. Don't over think it. College basketball media never criticizes coaches. Tom Crean is still a top tier coach despite failing at every stop since Dwayne Wade left for the draft.
  6. I give him the benefit of the doubt on Itejere. Finding underrecruited athletic bigs was Shaka's lone exceptional skill.
  7. Jordan Walsh the 5th Dallas area kid to be named McDonald's All-American last year.
  8. Anthony Black made a ridiculous jump in skillset after he gave up football. That kid is special. I thought he was 4th behind Cason Wallace, Keyonte George, and Arterio Morris, but he may be the best out of all 4 of the metroplex guards already. And there's no doubt that he'll most likely be the best pro among them.
  9. I initially thought the Leon Black tournament was a one off thing last season to honor coach Black, but then we did it again this year so I was curious whether or not it would become a permanent thing. There are worthwhile positives to playing games in regions of the state that don't get to see the Horns (El Paso last year and RGV this year) so I'm not wholly against it. I just don't want it to totally replace the holiday tournament schedule we typically get every couple of years around this time of the year.
  10. I hear you. I just enjoy watching us play quality completion during this time of year. We typically have games like the ones you referenced then on top of them play like a North Carolina and Indiana level team in a tournament. And maybe a mid tier team like a Belmont as well. The Gonzaga game was actually a payback game because it was canceled during the covid season. The Creighton game is part of the Big East/ Big 12 match-up. We lucked out in getting a quality opponent for that match-up this year. There was a tournament a few years ago where we played Butler, Duke, and Gonzaga in back to back to back games along with nonconference games against the likes of Michigan and Alabama as well as a mid tier SEC school for our Big12/ SEC match-up. Now that we have a real coach I'm hopeful that we get those same intriguing match ups again in the future.
  11. You can tell Tommy Lloyd really emphasizes player moment. Ive never Ramey move as much without the ball as he has been during his time on the court.
  12. Actually finished with contact at the rim a few plays ago. Something that he didnt do frequently on the 40.
  13. Dallas area high school basketball may be unmatched in the nation. Last year Texas had 5 McDonald's all-americans and all of them came from the metroplex.
  14. Is this Leon Black Classic something that we'll do every year in lieu of playing in holiday tournaments?
  15. We'll see. Mitchell has a similar skillset to Kendall Brown on last year's Baylor team. Extremely athletic without much discernable offensive skill. At this time last year Brown was mocking anywhere between 10 to 25 in the 1st round (pretty much the exact same as Mitchell is now). He ended up getting drafter with the 48th pick. I have no clue as to how the depth of this year's draft class compares to last year, but Mitchell is going to have to demonstrate more offensive skill to guarantee himself as a 1st round pick.
  16. Coach Beard checking out Tre Johnson and Ronald Holland.
  17. Over the last 2 years no QB has scored more PPG than Dak Prescott.
  18. That had a lot more to do with how high school basketball was handled in this state for years up until the late 80s and/or early 90s. For the longest time the state had little to no AAU infrastructure due to arcane rules the U.I.L. placed on high school athletes attending summer camps (ie participating in AAU). Therefore Texas high school bball talent was isolated from the rest of nation and didn't have access to the same level of development as what was seen around the rest of nation. Due to Fonde and the pro am talent it brought to area, Houston area high school basketball managed to get some level of development throughout the 70s and 80s, but it couldn't support the entire state. There's a reason we only really started to see an explosion in Texas high school basketball talent around the turn of the millennium. It took a full decade to bring the state's AAU basketball infrastructure to a level that was competitive across all grade levels. In just the last 3 Final 4s the state has seen 3 different schools participate. Over the next decade or 2 we're going to routinely see multiple D1 schools in the state not only have multiple appearances in the Final 4, but win championships as well. And I have no doubt UT will play a major part in all of that.
  19. This Nunez kid on Arizona St is balling, He was a UT lean for a longtime, but watching him play in high school Im sure Beard let him no to look elsewhere with his offense 1st, 2nd, and 3rd mentality.
  20. If we ever get to a point where we're consistently in the top 5 and one or two national championships in our coffer I can see them opening it up for a big #1 vs #2 match-up against conference rivals Kentucky like 5 to 10 years from now.
  21. Gabby Urinator may have been one of the all-time best bits on The Ticket. You could literally hear the tension build as Tom worked his way up the line towards the urinals.
  22. There was a lot of local backlash against her stemming from her purported national ambitions. Also there were countless examples of her doing stuff that proved the narrative that Kemp raised about her on this front. About 4 days before the election she called into a local Atlanta morning radio show, got into an argument with them and then hung up. During her book tour she didn't have any appearances in Georgia. She's more of a policy wonk than a talented politician. Her campaign was accused of being too insular and not heeding local advice Plus you have the stuff like that proved successful for the republicans that did win ie Kemp deciding to distance from Trump and Abrams being tagged with being against opening up the state during covid lockdowns and also playing a role in the MLB allstar game leaving Atlanta even though she played no part.
  23. Sark's offense is the opposite of Jimbo's offense. Jimbo creates mid 90s NFL schemes where he believes the call will beat any scheme as long as the QB makes the correct (complicated as hell) read. Sark seems to run a lot of plays purposely schemed up to get one WR wide ass open ie shot plays. So if that WR isn't completely open then the options are limited. I love that aspect of Sark's offense in spurts, but he really needs to start gearing the passing game towards giving the QB more options. He's really addicted to designing plays that setup homeruns. We need more singles and doubles in the passing game.
  24. Dixon's full turn from a defense first coach to an offensive coach who's teams don't play defense is something I don't think Ive ever seen in the game of college basketball.
