  1. All the best WRs in the NFL right now fit the Xavier Worthy profile as opposed to the Julio Jones profile. 5'11" to 6'1" with great route running, speed, and quickness. Obviously if you find a unicorn like Julio Jones you take him, but he better be worth it in terms of his athleticism.
  2. A team with a deficiency in talent should play slower and limit possessions and vice versa if the case is the opposite. I don't know whether Beard played that way due to preference or as part of a strategy to compensate for the talent gap. Time will tell, but at Texas he'll often have way more talent than his opponents so playing a style of play that increases your chances of being upset doesn't seem like the best strategy. Regardless his defense is suffocating enough that we'll always be competitive irrespective of how slow we play or how much talent we have.
  3. I'm just glad we've finally entered the modern age of football and stopped chasing after 6'3+ WRs who cant get a sippy cup open. You would have thought our 2007 through 2009 WR core would've taught us a lesson about what works for today's passing games, but it still took us another decade plus to process those lessons.
  4. Yeah he's a kid I wondered about after Beard took the job, because he originally committed under Smart as a preferred walkon with potential to eventually get a scholi. Glad he still came. His high school highlights looked like he had good potential to turn into something worthwhile.
  5. If it we played at a quicker pace, resulting in getting more shots up, it would probably help to mitigate some of the issues with the number of capable players we have.
  6. Oh it would've eventually happened, however, given all his personal failings Herman is a good coach. If he were ever to overcome his insecurities, overall hubris, and the personality quirks that hold him back he'd be a great coach.
  7. Herman is/was an asshole, but does anyone seriously think he gets fired if the EOT stuff never happens. Just having a controversy (made up or otherwise) like that in the public space did as much to kill recruiting momentum as Herman's personality.
  8. DJ Riggenberg has a little something and I've felt Cowlishaw was a good fit for the Ticket since he started appearing with the Musers. I never listened to his show back in the day, but he seems like he has a good sense of humor and interest in things outside of the sports world. Plus he's a Texas Ex which is always good.
  9. https://www.nba.com/stats/players/touches/?sort=TIME_OF_POSS&dir=1 Luka currently leads the league in both time of possession/ gm and average seconds/touch at 9.4 minutes/gm & 6.19 sec/touch respectively. James Harden at even his most heliocentric state of play for the Rockets never averaged over 9.3 minutes of possession per game. And even his seconds/touch were below Luka's current 6.19 more often than not while with the Rockets. For comparison players like Steph Curry and Lamello Ball average 5.5 min/gm, 4.25 sec/touch and 6 min/gm, 4.18 sec/touch respectively. Even without these stats you can see the difference in how these teams play vs our Mavs. The ball constantly moves and players continuously move around stressing the defense as they do it. Maybe our style of play has more to do with our atrocious personnel rather than Luka's preferred style of play, but whatever it is this shit needs to change.
  10. Kansas, Okla St, & WVU are all pretty typical of what you'd expect from a major conference team. Few major conference teams will be in the top 50s for their Non-conf SOS. Shit, even though they're not in a major conference look at Gonzaga. They've played us, UCLA, Tech, Duke, and Bama yet have a non-conf SOS of 238.
  11. I didn't pay much attention to Tech so I don't know whether Beard typically schedules an early season tournament or a set of show case games, but the lack of those extra 3 or 4 games against the likes of a Davidson or even a California or a Texas A&M type level team would probably push our SOS up 100 spots. The reason our non-conf SOS schedule sucks so much is that not only are we not catching any teams in the 90-199 range, but pretty much every non major conference team we've played has been in the 240s or below.
  12. Typically you're not going to see a lot of major conference teams at the top of the heap of Non-Conference SOS rankings. High non-con SOS rankings are reserved for the likes of Prairie View, Jackson St, and a bunch of other HBCUs or small schools that spend the majority of their non-conference schedules getting bashed by major conference teams. A good major conference non-conf SOS is going to be in the range of 75-200. Even Rick's last 5 years at UT consisted of non-conf SOS rankings of 2011-143 2012-198 2013-204 2014-213 2015-234 *according to kenpom.
  13. This is Bead's non-conference SOS rankings at Tech 2021-283 2020-296 2019-307 2018-309 2017-351 2022 (Beard at Texas) -358 While BWG's motives are questionable it's clear that he has a point on this subject. Beard historically puts together trash ass schedules.
  14. Totally agree. I was actually surprised we didn't hear reports about his discontent prior to this.
  15. Saban changed the perception of LSU for their instate talent. They used to not even receive a second look from kids like Warrick Dunn, Ed Reed, or Marshall Faulk. Pre-Saban, Louisiana kids left the state in droves and the SEC propaganda back then was non existent. The confluence of Saban having quick success at LSU, the lack of in-state competition, and the SEC becoming a destination for high school talent has all worked towards making most Louisiana kids look towards LSU first before looking elsewhere.

  17. You ain't lying. Speaking of which, I know SI has now devolved into a bastion for clickbait articles, but I thought the 2nd of these trade options was worthwhile. I'm sure Detroit could get much more for Jerami Grant but we could hope. Trade Offer No. 2: Mavs receive: Jerami Grant Pistons receive: Reggie Bullock, Maxi Kleber, Josh Green and two future second round picks This one pretty much has the same logic as the first trade proposal, except you're swapping out Hardaway Jr.'s salary for Bullock and Kleber's salaries. Bullock has had a rough go since signing in Dallas, but if anyone could look favorably at him as a trade target right now, it might be the Pistons. https://www.si.com/nba/mavericks/news/trade-talk-dallas-mavs-detroit-pistons-jerami-grant-tim-hardaway-jr
  18. Duncanville is probably the best high school team in the nation this year. They've notched big time wins against a number of national powers so far this season, including Sierra Canyon (Bronny James team), Montverde, and a few others.
  19. That Reyna kid on Alabama St played for Duncanville.
  20. I figure 12-6 will get us a top 4 or 5 seed.
  21. I watched the full serious leading up to the final season, but I just recently began a 2nd run through the show. I appreciate this show so much more than I did during the first run through. I'm currently rewatching "The Strong, Silent Type" S4E10 which has Chris' intervention. The way these guys all flip the script and make the intervention about themselves is absolutely hilarious. And I don't know why I either didn't recognize this before or remember it, but what's up with Tony and animals. Geezus Christ the way that guy can express and feel such sincere emotions for animals, but be the complete and absolute psychopath he is in every other area of his life is stunning to me. There's never been a more thoroughly fleshed out character than Tony Soprano in the history of television.
  22. And apparently Brian Jones' only insight into the program is through a Sooner. I swear some people will swallow whole any and everything someone is willing to feed them. At least chew your food next time.
  23. Our spacing seems really tight. If we could run the same actions further out it would probably open things up more, but then again we're shooting so poorly that changing our alignment doesn't mean the defense has to respect it.
  24. It was discussed early in the thread but a 3-way (or 4-way) tie changes the tie breaker rules. In that scenario the 1st tie breaker is conference record of which we currently only have 1 loss to an NFC team whereas pretty much everyone we're competing with has multiple losses in conference.
