  1. Yep. Had a flight out of Vegas at 9 a.m. on Sunday (yesterday morning). Got the text at 10:30 p.m. Saturday night that my flight was cancelled. Looked online and there were no flights available Sunday or Monday. Called customer service and waited on hold for 3 hours. Finally was able to book a 6 a.m. out of Vegas online--it would let me book, then cancel, then let me again. Anyway, showed up at airport at 4:30 a.m. to pandemonium. The Southwest counter line was at least 100 yards long. Skipped the line and went to my gate. Surprisingly, was allowed to fly out on a half empty plane. Felt like a big winner for just getting out of town. I was dreading being stuck there until Tuesday. I had already been in town since the previous Tuesday. I needed to get home. And that is the only luck I had in Vegas.
  2. Here in Vegas this morning. Can't read that sheet on small screen. Give me your top 8 sure-things, and I will wrap them up in a parlay. Thanks.
  3. Far west Texas thing for sure. I grew up eating saltines with enchiladas and few things enrage me more that fixin' a bit plate of cheese enchiladas and beans to only walk to the pantry and see that the kids ate all the crackers. I have been known to leave my plate sitting on the table and jump in the truck to hit up the nearest grocery store.
  4. Have a very rich older friend who wanted to go a few years ago but thought it would be more fun with more people. He sent a private plane to pick up me and my wife, then the plane flew to Colorado to fetch him and his wife, and off to Vegas we went. Bought us a huge two BR/ 2 Bath suite overlooking the fountains at Belagio. He stayed somewhere else with his wife. Bought tickets to shows every night and had lunch and dinner reservations at the best places in town for 7 days/6 nights. He paid for all of it. He only asked that we do a happy hour with him every day at 4 p.m. and that were dressed in coats/tie (for me) for every evening when the limo pulled up to pick us up. Was a wild and fun week. I go back several times a year--but it has never been the same since that trip.
  5. Hope my linking that didn't come off as me trying to "correct" you. I was genuinely curious after you raised the question. And honestly, that is a pretty subdued press conference for Saban considering... On another note, everyone needs to realize that Saban is a one-off. Hiring his assistants or following his process is not a sure path to Alabama 2.0. What he does is what he does. Tom Brady might eat only avocado toast for breakfast every morning, but force-feeding avocado toast to Dak will lead to him still being mediocre--but now with more fiber. And Brady could feast on Jade's chili nightly and I suspect he would still have been pretty damn good. Anyway, time will tell on Sark. I wouldn't write him off yet. But I wouldn't been clearing my calendar for the MNC parade next January just yet either.
  6. Kept waiting for "We ain't found shit."
  7. Likely, I would hate them all and think only a 7th could save us from collapse.
  8. I have that same pan and make paella a couple of times a year. Order in lots of bomba rice. The hardest part is developing a socarrat without burning it. All paella is good. Paella with an excellent socarrat is food of the Gods.
  9. I freakin' love college football. Such cool storylines.
  10. Is that a rarely-seen skullet on the kid in purple?
  11. In his current condition, no doubt.
  12. Here is a short and interesting podcast on the miscalculations regarding the withdrawal. Seems like a pretty even-handed discussion. Good listen while mowing the grass or sitting by the pool. It's only about 25 minutes. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/17/podcasts/the-daily/afghanistan-taliban-joe-biden-kabul.html?showTranscript=1
  13. Chicken fried steak covered in gravy and CHEESE at the Mexican food joints in Zapata. Often served with an enchilada refried beans. So damn good after a day on Falcon.
  14. Don't you even trotline anchor, bro?
  15. More a function of those being the states where former Western Europeans immigrated.
  16. Just cancelled the trip. Didn't want to get out there and a lockdown hit. Thanks anti-vaxxers. Up your noses with rubber hoses.
  17. This guy gets this thread and stays well within the parameters established by the title. Team Pile-More-Shit-on-Those-Nachos
  18. Laugh all you want but my kids liked Splash Town in San Antonio better than Schlitterbahn. No lines and more slides. Waiting in line for an hour for a ride that last 2 minutes is whack. And Splash Town was super cheap.
  19. Berlin has great public transport between the s-bahn and the u-bahn. Don't feel as if you have to stay super close to where your wife's friend may be. Most of the government offices are in the Mitte district. I am not sure many people live in that area--unless uber rich. That district has a lot going on, but that is not the part of Berlin that interests me most. But for sure, you want to go to Mitte and sight-see. A nice walk would be from the Brandenburg Gate to Alexanderplatz. The Jewish Memorial is very near the B Gate and is a must. Museum Island near Alexander Platz is great for perhaps a full day. You can get passes. If you have time to kill, I might even take the bahn (I can't remember if it is an S or U stop) and get off at the Victory Column. And then walk all the way to Alexander Platz. It is probably about 3 miles but you will pass some cool stuff. If I remember correctly, part of the agreement on the wall coming down was that the west would not remove the war memorials and statues of the east. Many of these art installations are on the walk from the Victory Column to the Gate. From the Gate to Alexanderplatz is lots of shopping and such. There is are a couple of Berkinstock stores along this path if your family is wanting to score some of that gear. I always end up bringing back several pair although I don't have any myself. In fact, the Birkenstock store that is on Friedrichstrause (cross street of the Unter den Linden--the road you will be walking down) is very close to a good spot to stop for lunch. The Treffpunkt Berlin is a smallish pub/restaurant on Mittelstrause--not sure how to type that odd German B that makes the "strauss" sound." Nothing super special just a classic German lunch menu and some good beers. I always get a kick out of the signs labelling the genders of the restrooms downstairs. I'll leave that Easter egg for you to find. I'll log back in later and hit you up with a few more of my recs.
