  1. Yep, Innisfree is sorta the beginning of no-man's land. I was in there on Sunday, and I was surprised to see how much it had changed. Lots shadier than it was 15 years ago. Food sucked. Don't eat there. Booze was fine.
  2. Start at Black Warrior Brewing on University downtown. Low key place. Then walk down to Loosa. Then walk across the street to Innisfree. You will be getting closer and closer to campus on this trek. If you want to drink at the bars on the strip, Innisfree is just a quarter mile away or so. Head down to Houndstooth or Phil’s—end up at Gillettes and get a YellowHammer. Or just stay downtown. There are places on University and the street/area immediately to the north basically behind DePalmas Restaurant—which has pretty good Italian food/pizza.
  3. sitting in Black Warrior Brewing waiting for a rain cloud to pass before I walk to campus. Margaritaville came on the radio and the whole bar sang along. Then back to silence. No one said a word otherwise.
  4. Moved here from Austin in 1995, lived here 5 years and loved it. Just never stayed in a hotel. And the town and university were much smaller back then. I’m sure I’m about to find out that I like it less now than I did then. I suppose that is a common theme when 50-year-olds go back to the places where they burned up their 20s.
  5. Was going to post this video a few days ago. Just a thrown together bit of footage but it paints a nice picture. The girl, who I believe became his wife, is smokin’. There’s not a person over 30 who doesn’t have some great memories that are tethered to a Buffett song or two. Seemed like the soundtrack to certain years of my life. And not many guitar players haven’t learned a few Jimmy songs. I’m in Tuscaloosa for the game today and know that the people of this state hold him dearly. I suspect the pre-game music today will have him in heavy rotation. If I had’em with me, I’d have my hush puppies on.
  6. Well, I’m sitting on the throne in the Tuscaloosa Ramada Inn right now. The toilet my might be the cleanest thing about this place—and that is before I flush. What a dump (the hotel). Sorry if you booked here. For $300 a night, I expected the bathroom door to not be rusted off the hinges.
  7. Good to know. I added Valencia only because of paella—not kidding. Easy to add time to Seville for sure. Someone had told me that Seville was the Lubbock of Spain. As a current Lubbock resident, I was not excited about that description.
  8. Thanks. Need to work out the details in the next 30 days. Travel will be in July. Will it be miserably hot (I know it will be hot--but miserable?) Was in Greece for most of July this year and it was...warm...miserably warm at times.
  9. I need to plan a Spain trip for next summer. 12 to 14 days with a small group. Want to move about the country. Also thinking about a day or two in Morocco. Has anyone taken the ferry across the Straight to Tangier? Thinking: Fly into Barcelona—stay three nights Train to Valencia—stay two nights Train to city further south (Alicante, Murica or Cartagena)—stay two nights Train to Malaga or Seville—stay two nights Get to Tangier—stay two nights Fly home Any advice is appreciated. Have travelled all over but never to Spain/North Africa
  10. Another favorite of the category.
  11. Ha. That is actually the one I heard on the radio yesterday that got me thinking about this topic. Great cowbell song for sure.
  12. Heard one on the drive home yesterday. Got me to thinking about bands reflecting on being in a band. I could think of quite a few. I won't list them all here because it will be interesting to see what people recall. I'll just start with one of my favorites.
  13. Southpark Meadows sometime early '90s. Gin Blossoms > Spin Doctors.
  14. I rode the train from Dublin to Galway last year then down to Limerick. Jumped off an had beers along the way. It is a nice way to travel but the network in Ireland is more limited than it is in Scotland and England.
  15. In public places, using cell phone by holding it horizontally and talking into the mic while playing the audio on speaker.
  16. That place is great, but there will be an hours' long wait. City Cafe in Northport is pretty good and may have a shorter line.
  17. Will post a full report when I get back, but these wildfires are ruining the views in the afternoon. Woke up to ash all over the outdoor furniture.
  18. Sitting in Tap Field right now. Insomnia IPA is legit good. Baba au Rum hadn’t opened when I walked by.
  19. Great. I have Baba au Rum pinned as well.
