  1. Shaping up to be an epic weekend.
  2. This was at Olallie Creek Campground somewhere between Eugene and Bend.
  3. Went camping this weekend on the McKenzie river in Oregon. Willow is truly an adventure dog. Though she was shocked by the frigid water temperature when she jumped in. Snow runoff is cold!

I told them they have access to my beer fridge and bar and that I'll make them delicious grilled shrimp tacos w/ ginger-sesame slaw.
  5. Fox & Bones will be playing on August 2nd. They are described as an indie folk powerhouse and are pretty big up here in the PNW. I'm excited to host them. Definitely the most professional band I've dealt with. Contract w/ rider in addition to working with their manager.
  6. I was passed out cold Face down on the floor
  7. My next show will be Branson Anderson w/ Sammy Brue on Saturday July 19th.
  8. I gotcha
  9. She had 3 gigs on Sunday as well. Two of them with her renegade Opera outfit. Dressed up in costume and hosting tours through a botanical garden. Then Sunday night playing at a local bar in Portland. Got to pay the bills.
  10. Had my first show of the year on Saturday the 14th. It was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I had been reaching out to the manager of the artist, Johnny Franco, all week with no response - just crickets. I sent a message to Johnny via instagram on Friday night looking for affirmation. Said a prayer and went to bed without a peep from either. When I woke up there was a DM from Johnny to call him with his #. I sent him a text to call me when he woke up. I assumed he would be sleeping in due to performing the night before and being a musician in general. The phone rang immediately. "Nuge, I have some bad news and some ok news for you." Uh oh. "I'm at the airport getting ready to board a flight to NYC. Gabriel (the manager) never put your gig on my calendar and I can't get in touch with him." I mentioned that I had been trying all week to contact Gabriel as well. I could hear the frustration in Johnny's voice. "Nuge, you know I would never do this. That's not how I do business. When I got your message last night I was very upset. I checked to see if I could change my flight but it was going to cost $1000 and I can't do that. So I called around I found someone to play for you. She's the best in Portland in my opinion. She'll be great on your stage. Her name is Maeve Stier." I asked him to send me her contact info and I would reach out to her. This is 7am Saturday morning. I sent a text to Maeve to call when she's available and the phone rang shortly after. We chatted. I told her about the space, the expected audience, and the pay. She was in. She was playing two other gigs that day and could arrive around 7pm. "Great, see you at 7. I'll save some food for you." I did some internet research and found out that she is a Portland based multidisciplinary performance artist that performs on Broadway. She's involved in a renegade opera troup that randomly performs in area parks and botanical gardens. She plays the gypsy jazz on her accordion. Interesting, to be sure, but is it right for my backyard? Will the folks coming for Johnny be interested in such a departure from their expectations? So I did what my gf labelled as the most Capricorn thing ever and contacted all of the people I knew that were possibly coming and let them know. I didn't want any hard feelings due to the ol' bait-n-switch. One interesting thing I discovered is the girls that were leaning towards not coming having seen Johnny before all changed their minds and showed up. A bunch of guys decided that they couldn't make it. C'est la vie. Maeve was a revelation. I am still in awe. She is a legit Broadway performer and proved it. Wow. Any doubt was wiped away within the first few notes. Amazing voice and skill on the accordion. I heard from a good portion of the audience that this was a very serendipitous occurrence. As fun as Johnny and Dom are this was something extraordinary. She gained a bunch of new fans and the line starts behind me.
  11. Coming up Wednesday is Tune-Yards and Broncho on Friday.
  12. I'm going to dress up as the only King that I do support, Elvis. I'll also be carrying my yard sign.
  13. or Shane Gillis perhaps
  14. I'd want him to continue the parade in the rain and get obliterated by one of these.
  15. I worked as a grip on a bunch of indies that never saw the light of day. I was usually able to make my way in front of the camera when they needed an extra. Most of those projects were never released - they just ended up as reels for the director to try and line up their next job with.
  16. Ok, @Buzzrock, mea culpa. I was wrong. The Primus, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle was fucking awesome! It started off on the wrong foot as it took over an hour to get into the property, park, and then walk a loooonnngg way to the venue. We probably missed a good 45+ minutes of music. But once we got in everything worked out. As we walked in Primus was starting "My Name is Mud" and then continued on into "Jerry was a race car driver". Then they played their new collaboration with Puscifer. This acted as a bridge. Puscifer continued with no break. They were great. I should not have ever doubted a Maynard project. After 2-3 songs they transitioned into A Perfect Circle. They continued this throughout the night. Each band would play a couple of songs and then transition to one of the other bands. The stage was set up with giant staircases on each side leading about 15'-20' up to a riser that had all three drum kits for the assorted bands. When they moved on to a different band the musicians that weren't playing just hung out on the staircase or on the side of the stage, chilling, partying, even playing table tennis. They were having a great time and would just float back onto the stage and perform. The sound guy was the tits. It sounded crisp, clear, and loud back in the grassy area where we were (cheap seats). The bass rocked the whole environment without overpowering the rest of the band. Good job sound guy! There were several jams in which all 3 drummers were playing and it was fucking awesome. Primus' new drummer is really good. Sounded amazing. My only complaint, other than the parking clusterfuck, would just be my hate of going to concerts at such large venues. I hate paying so much for tickets and then essentially watching the video screens because I can't see the band. I suppose I could shell out a lot more money to sit up front but that runs counter to my credo. I like good music at small venues where I can tap into the energy of the band and crowd. Sitting on a hillside is such a downer. Also, fuck LiveNation. $28 cocktails. Go fuck yourself.
  17. A lot of it just sounds the same to me. I've seen them a couple of times with friends that love them but I've never really gotten into them.
  18. I'm scheduled to climb Mt Etna in July so this is not ideal.
  19. $20 is basically one cocktail or two beers + tip at a venue. My drinks are much better priced - byob.
  20. Friday night is Puscifer, Primus, and A Perfect Circle at an outdoor amphitheater here in Vancouver, WA. I like A Perfect Circle. I get tired of Primus after 3 songs and I can't seem to get into Puscifer even though Maynard is fronting. Maybe they put on a good live show. Fingers crossed. GF loves Maynard so we're going. I think I'll take some edibles.
  21. My immediate neighbor knows that he doesn't have to pay but he usually drops a little something in the tip jar. In actuality, some of the other neighbors have gatherings in their backyard and listen to the music from there. Usually, someone will show up with a little cash and then head back over to their party. I appreciate the gesture but wished they would just gather at my house and fill the backyard.
  22. spoiler alert
  23. It's more of a suggested donation. I had people coming out last year and paying $20 for 5 people or not at all. And these were friends. So I'm putting out an expectation of payment for the artists.
