  1. Even if retailers limit the public on one bottle per customer, there are others that can get whatever they want. For example, when Spec’s dropped their store pick of Smoke Wagon a few weeks back, it was at one location here in SA. They limited the public to one bottle per transaction, so most guys I know were able to snag one or two if they went back more than once (which I have no problem with). Yet, it was confirmed that one customer was sold FIVE CASES of the stuff. The same day the Spec’s pick dropped, the stuff flooded the secondary market and was going for $200-$225 on Texas and National pages. There’s no doubt in my mind that these flippers are dealing kickbacks to managers at these big box stores. Until this practice is cracked down upon (which I doubt) we’ll keep seeing rare and allocated bottles hitting secondary in mass quantities.
  2. They also have some Old Forester barrel strength store picks left, but you have to put buy with another store pick. They have a few to pick from, but the OF is $100 itself. I combined that with a Russell’s Reserve pick they had for $70. The OF is the same one that Debs had (they called it Over the Top). It’s like 135 proof, but it doesn’t have the cool sticker that Debs put on their bottle (if that matters to you).
  3. I haven’t lived in Houston for over a decade, but I always loved Lankford. No clue if it’s even open anymore
  4. Yeah, in the “Whiskey Tube” community, that’s typically the note given to most Dickel products. I hated Flintstones vitamins as a kid so that’s enough to keep me away from Dickel.
  5. The new 11 year Dickel BiB apparently has a more traditional bourbon flavor and less of the mineral/“Flintstones vitamin” taste of typical Dickel offerings. I haven’t tasted it yet myself, but that could be a reason why you like it a bit better.
  6. Eagle Rare hits WB Liquors (the liquor store at Costco) at least once a month. At least they do here in SA. In our area the deliveries are typically the last week of the month on Thrusday or Friday. They get Blanton’s and ER monthly.
  7. Why would you ruin a perfectly good weekend in Austin by watching the clusterfuck shitshow we call a football program?
  8. I think the JDBP had more banana on the nose than on the palate. But it’s a damn fine pour.
  9. Yeah, he’s definitely hit them hard on that front. I think he also wasn’t too crazy about Old Tub.
  10. If I recall, he wasn’t huge on OFBB this year. I don’t think he said it was bad, just not as good as previous years.
  11. I’m still waiting on B520 to hit Texas...
  12. Debs already did theirs.
  13. Refs missed two offensive PI calls that last drive. One on the 4th down where Rambo blatantly ran into the KSU defender and then the push off by Stoops running down the field.
  14. Kelvin Sampson /katfid
  15. Not, not worth it. It’s solid stuff, but you’ll probably be kicking yourself afterwards if you drop that much. That price is well above secondary (which is around $350).
  16. OF released the tasting notes of the three batches.
  17. TW charges $78 for the Repeal Reserve Series (I’ve seen multiple series at the same price), so you paid MSRP.
  18. Not sure if they’ll be at all Specs statewide, but today I got a Specs Smoke Wagon single barrel pick. It was only at one location here in San Antonio, but I wanted to let y’all know in case you wanted to check locations by you.
  19. Delirious and Raw are the only two stand-up specials that I continually laugh throughout the entire show, no matter how many times I watch. Both are structured so perfectly, it’s amazing to realize how young he was when he did those shows. I enjoy a wide variety of comedy (Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Louis CK to name a few), but they pale in comparison to Eddie.
  20. BSM-Value Reference group on Facebook should lead you in the right direction.
  21. Try Texas Barrel Selections or Alamo City Dram Club
  22. I saw some of that Makers 101 while out and about today. Anyone try that yet? I think it’s like $35 at Specs, but Total Wine had some as well.
