Terry Joseph really hooking up his former guys yesterday. His new team picked Banks and his cousin is the DC for the Broncos who picked his former pupil Barron.
It will be interesting to see how the Broncos use Barron with Surtain, Riley Moss and their existing young nickel.
Also, interesting note, on the ABC telecast Saban said Golden wasn't a good route runner when he got to Texas but became one here. Great recruiting material.
Kind of interesting that the staff seems to be prioritizing portal additions with multiple years of eligibility left. Mosely, Brad Spence, Kanu, Endries if it happens. They don't seem as interested in the one year rental types other than DT where they didn't have much choice.
I had a feeling ATM was going to back into a better coach if Buzz left. Was hoping he'd stay, he never worried me. Beard is a massive upgrade on the court if it happens
Miller should be an improvement over RT but it's not an exciting hire. The guy has been mediocre at best the past 6 years. He was good in his first Xavier stint and at AZ while he was paying players under the table but pretty weak since he got busted.
A little surprised I haven't seen anyone mention Eric Musselman. I know his last 2 years were weak but before that he was a top name. Not that different from Sean Miller.
Well if the typical CDC timeline holds up, this means the replacement is ready which means it's probably not someone who is still in the tourney. In other words, it's Miller time meh (unless there's an absolute stunner with Mark Few)
I am very interested to see how much Sark lets Arch use his legs vs. protecting him from hits. We know Sark wants his QBs to be pass-first and limit hits but that running ability is a major weapon. Tough balance to find there.
Why tf was he hanging out in Georgetown?
Regardless, the Chiefs are one of the teams that will slap him on the wrist and happily let him back on the field. They've proven that over and over with other guys.
Still, what a shithead if true
He said P4 coach "from last season" so there aren't many names that fit the bill. Who else besides Mack and Neal Brown? Ryan Walters is the DC at UW now.
Someone will have to explain to me how RT got such a big buyout when he probably had zero competitive offers from other schools and was clearly getting a job way above his resume. ADs have no financial sense when negotiating these things
Honest question - what was Akina's track record at Stanford and Arizona after he left Texas? I know Tacario had a good year in 2023 with Akina as Analyst and then regressed some this year. No clue beyond that. How were his Stanford secondaries?
My only question with this hire is whether Akina can still develop as well at his age. Maybe that's a dumb question but idk. I assume Nansen would know.
Not worried about recruiting. NIL and other coaches can lead the charge in that area. And there is plenty to sell with Akina's resume.
Akina is a hilarious surprise. Very unlike Sark. I guess Nansen must have been a big advocate?
Don't forget Sark hired Akina as an analyst last year but he got a DC role at Arizona and immediately went back
I don't get Sean Miller. Missed the tourney his last 3 years at Arizona and on track to miss it the last two at Xavier. Pass.
Brad Brownell has made the tourney 4 times in 15 years at Clemson. Yeah he's on a nice two year run right now but that's the exception, not the rule with him.
Lloyd has done well, I'd like that hire. Texas might not be a step up for him though.
Mccollum doesn't seem to fit CDC's profile of someone who has done well in P4. He only has one year in D1 at all. But he's an interesting up and comer. High risk/reward I guess.
Did I miss something where TJ Otz's buyout isn't an issue? I thought people said it was like $18 mil or something.
