  1. NFL minimum salary is $700k IF you make the team. 7th rounders get like $100k signing bonus I think. UDFA signing bonus much less, as low as nothing. So a lot of risk/reward if you're on the bubble for making a roster.
  2. Harris posted something seemingly recruiting Dameon George to ATM, so shockingly (or is it shocking?) Jimbo might be keeping those guys around. Which would be hilariously on brand. Or maybe he just hasn't told them yet.
  3. So is Jimbo gonna let Denver Harris and the other troublemakers stay? I mean I guess his NIL opps elsewhere are probably limited by the off field stuff. On the other hand, how many strikes do you get..
  4. To me, this is the most underrated and absurd part of the NIL landscape. Literally one crazy booster can outweigh every "market-based" factor like program revenue, overall alumni wealth, corporate density, etc. And it's not like the boosters get any financial ROI either. It's like European soccer except with zero connection to revenue and without any ownership. Phil Knight is an unsurprising first example, but at some point I'm sure another billionaire will do the same. And it could come completely out of the blue from a school like Cal or Duke. Or Elon Musk just fucking with people by building UT-RGV into a powerhouse lol
  5. Yeah that makes sense. I guess I'm mainly just curious if guys are in general happy to be at UT (are they having fun, do they like their teammates, coaches, school, etc.). Obviously every team will have a few unhappy guys for football reasons or otherwise, that's life. But I feel like making sure the kids have some fun and build bonds will be even more important in the portal era.
  6. How does the locker room seem in general from your conversations? Publicly seems pretty strong other than this and maybe Worthy, but never know behind the scenes
  7. "cap" means lie. He's refuting FCB. Obligatory "how does FCB still have his job"
  8. It's called recruiting, duh
  9. So am I right that the open jobs now are Auburn (likely Freeze), Stanford, Colorado (supposedly offered to Prime), Cincy, Ga Tech, USF, and TX St? With more firings to come I'm sure. I could totally see Turtle at Cincinatti. Bronco Mendenhall would be good at Stanford. If I'm GT, I'm going Deion or Todd Monken.
  10. I wonder when PJ Fleck will resurface as a bigger name candidate. The covid year turned everyone off on him, but outside of that he's got a great record for Minnesota
  11. I certainly didn't have Ish Harris on bingo card as the first Aggie defector form 2022
  12. Yep, unfortunately we're gonna have to get used to this. Every school will. Just like every NFL team has good players leave in free agency. Losing Worthy would suck but letting him walk might be the right decision from a financial standpoint if you can use that same money to get another good WR plus other players. It sucks that CFB has come to this.
  13. I don't understand why a kid would ever scrub their social media before announcing anything. So weird if this is really is a sign of him leaving. Supposedly this isn't the first time he's scrubbed it though per Twitters.
  14. I assume he'd have to take a paycut to go to Nebraska. ATM will give him another big raise if needed. Unless Rhule makes him DC, I'm skeptical of it happening
  15. re: Clayton Smith, I'm glad to see Surly writes off other teams' players when they aren't superstars in their 2nd year just like our own guys. Consistency is key!
  16. SIAP but looks like that rumor is true and that his driving was the reason they got pulled over in the first place. Also, it was 7.7 oz. https://theeagle.com/sports/college/aggiesports/football/texas-a-m-ol-pj-williams-arrested-on-marijuana-charge/article_c4af1c0a-69da-11ed-af2d-b7722b0c4f9f.html
  17. In all seriousness, who do they even have that's still considering them outside of their commits?
  18. It's going to be really interesting to see how much the new CFB landscape changes the qualities needed to be a good head coach. A few things in particular: Being a dynamic, hands-on recruiter is probably less important. The money is going to do a lot of the talking. Knowing how to run a good bag game doesn't matter anymore You almost have to be a "players coach" and watch the locker room mood like a hawk. If not, kids will portal out immediately. Sorta similar to bags but it'll be critical to keep your NIL sources flowing when things aren't looking great. Booster relations will be big unless there's some sort of endowment model in place to weather any lulls. Will budgeting / GM skills start to matter? Moneyball type shit? Or do programs start hiring GMs to manage free agency decisions (inbound and outbound)
  19. I'm a little worried about Banks. He will get some huge offers which seemed to matter quite a bit in his original recruitment. Hopefully just me being paranoid.
  20. What does it mean? For us olds On another note, has anyone ever seen 6th street and satya in the same room?
  21. I had us at 8-4 but with 7-5 being almost as likely. (I also had A&M at 8-4, but that's for another thread..) Tbh, if we had the exact same record and the defense still sucked but the offense was lighting it up, this board would be a little calmer. We all wanted to see offensive fireworks but they've been highly sporadic. Regardless, I agree with others that there has been notable improvement, especially on defense. And gotta remember the offense is as young as you'll ever see - we have 8 underclassmen starters. That being said, Sark better get the offense rolling this offseason. Fwiw, UT's FEI ratings (adjusts for schedule strength. They have ours as one of the hardest): 2022: 6th overall (wtf), 19th offense, 13th defense (!!) 2021: 33 overall, 35th offense, 52nd defense And points per drive: 2022: 22nd overall, 32 offense, 30 defense 2021: 59th overall, 25 offense, 95 defense (lol)
  22. How fixed do you think NIL budgets will be going forward? In other words, is it a true tradeoff between Worthy vs using that money elsewhere or would Worthy's NIL money just expand the budget because he's a big name? Bc while Worthy is our best WR by far, I'd probably rather have 2-3 "Neyors" instead of him for the same money. That's how you have to evaluate free agents in the NFL but maybe not in college. Idk.
  23. Idk, seems like he still puts heat on it when he throws over the middle in tight spaces (mainly to JT). I think he tries to put some touch on those outside routes intentionally
  24. Quinn is playing like a true freshman. Does that mean he'll get better next year? Most likely, yes. Does that mean he'll end up being a star? Not necessarily, but it's certainly possible. It seems to me like he's gotten antsy in the pocket and is rushing things, which also leads to the sloppy footwork. Funny enough, it's almost the opposite of Card - Ewers needs to slow down while Card needed to speed up. Card looked a lot better this year, hopefully QE can make similar improvements. One thing is for sure. Sark needs to insert himself as fulltime QB coach during bowl practices (glad we have those) and spring ball. He didn't get hired to let AJ Milwee develop the QBs.
  25. Yeah the Jwhit bubble screens were getting like 10 yards a pop easy but we didn't see it until the very end
