So I guess playoff teams still have the same portal window as everyone else? Seems a little messed up that players have to decide to enter before the playoffs. And tough for coaches to "encourage" them to do so..
Schools like Vandy and Duke are going to get gutted every single year now. Never going to hang on to the occasional good players they have. Sad for the sport, and probably not good for it long term as entire fanbases just completely stop watching.
The FSU situation is a really tough one. From a resume standpoint, they 100% deserve to be in. But they will also be potentially double-digit underdogs against whoever they play which is pretty shitty for the playoff.
Yeah I'm with you. As a fan of the sport in general, it's sad to see. It is quickly becoming impossible for low/mid-tier programs to even have a couple years of success because anytime they find a diamond in the rough, that player is immediately out the door.
My view is that Quinn likely gives us a better chance to win next year but Arch is obviously a longer term guy. Hopefully they both stay but I wouldn't be surprised if either left. Sounds like 1 redshirt year was always in the plan for Arch but 2 on the bench probably wasn't. Then again, hard to guarantee he'd start anywhere else big next year coming in cold and behind the incumbents.
Lol at Looch - "Mike Elko had a sales pitch and plan for this place. I would bet a million dollars that he was the most impressive person they talked to because he was knowledgeable of this place and because of who he is."
Elko was so impressive that the interviewer Bjork decided to offer Mark Stoops first...
That's the funny thing about sports - the bar keeps moving higher no matter what. Pre-season, we'd all consider this season a major success even if we lose this weekend (I thought we'd get 9 or 10 wins). Objectively, this season already is a success. But still, I'll admit that it may not feel that way if we lose this week.
It's really not that complicated. We aren't jumping Oregon regardless of what we think should happen. Our only chances are:
1. FSU loses and UGA wins - almost definitely in
2. FSU loses and Bama wins - Probably in but could the committee go full-SEC and put UGA and Bama in over us? Tbh it's possible. Hard to leave UGA out and Bama has to jump them.
3. FSU wins and Bama wins - comes down to Texas vs Bama. Pretty much a coin flip what these idiots would decide but I don't feel great about the chances of them completely leaving out the SEC.
So yeah - #1 is clearly the best case scenario. The others are all still dicey. Again, this isn't what I think should be the case in a fair world, it's just the reality.
Of course, none of this matters if we don't take care of business vs Ok St. Let's worry about that first..
Is Sexton also Stoops' agent? If so that Elko deal had to be a hilarious negotiation. Stoops makes $9m so I assume ATM offered something in that ballpark. Then they reneged and offered Elko, but obviously Sexton would know exactly what they were willing to pay Stoops and would probably be pretty pissed at the stunt they pulled. Plus at that point Sexton/Elko had ALL the leverage.
So while normally Elko may have gotten a ~$6m offer from ATM, it's very possible that Sexton was able to push them way higher than that because of the Stoops fiasco.
I mean honestly I would believe it. It's impossible to turn UK into a championship program and at some point in life, making $8mm vs $9mm is probably nothing for these guys
Nebraska DC Tony White went to high school in El Paso. Could make sense for UTEP.
Traylor to UH makes too much sense. Although Fritz would be a strong hire too.
If UCLA moves on I wonder if Fisch could end up there.
