  1. Agree with his week 1 guess. Would be surprised by Cam starting this year but impossible to guess end of year. Sounds like he's really high on Conner which is a bit surprising considering how he looked when playing last year.
  2. Home game vs road games. Tbh, I'd pretty much subtract 5-10% from all those except ULM and it would feel about right.
  3. I think you’re right that that was an issue. Not a coincidence that they got Watts first from the portal, moved two corners to safety, and tried to get another safety.
  4. X seems like a pretty active recruiter for us, especially with other WRs, so it may not be fair to say he's a total mercenary or doesn't care about Texas (I highly doubt he chose Michigan for money in the first place). I think it's just time to think of CFB players like NFL players - they care about their team but at the same time a lot of them are going to make business decisions when it's time for "free agency." The two aren't mutually exclusive. So for X, yeah he held out for more money, but he could still very much care about Texas, NFL development, Sark, Austin, etc. Idk either way, just pointing out that it's not that simple.
  5. Not to mention: 4. He can't transfer again so you don't have to re-bid for him every year.
  6. Yeah this is an underrated point. The reality is that PK probably had as much edge/LB talent last year as he normally did at UW, so why tf were the results so much different? Ultimately, the defensive staff (including but not limited to PK) just couldn't tie it all together. Sure, it was year 1 and a shift in approach, so I'll give them a tiny bit of slack for now, but no excuses if it continues. So yeah, if the defense still sucks, it's on the whole defensive staff and the mismatched styles that Sark hired. Imo, the key to this year's defense is whether the position coaches and PK can get the players on the same page understanding the scheme and developing the mental ability to execute it. I'm blindly hoping that year 2 brings significant improvements in that bucket, but who the heck knows. As mentioned above, S&C seemed like another huge culprit. It'd be interesting to see stats, but I feel like the defense was actually pretty good in the first half of games but just atrocious in the second half (with a few exceptions). The DL would start getting pushed around in particular. Have to believe some of that is S&C.
  7. Completely agree with this. Seems like the 9.95ers have said they're doing more strength work this offseason so maybe that will help but could be BS. On the other hand, it did seem to help with the soft tissue injuries that piled up under Yancy, which was supposedly one of their focuses. They need to find a middle ground approach.
  8. That all makes sense but it's the coaches job to develop the LBs so they can make the plays needed. If the coaches can develop another LB or two, then this point no longer applies. If they can't do that, that's a problem itself. There's plenty of athleticism on the roster so assuming Ford is solid, then they just have to get the light to turn on for 1-2 of DMo, Gbenda, Diamonte, and Richardson. Frankly, it shouldn't be that hard. With that said, I do prefer schemes with aggressive DLs. But PK made it work damn well at UW so it's hard to totally trash the scheme.
  9. Well one of their safety commits just got poached so I guess we'll find out
  10. So many ways we could've won 8 games last year. Field a decent defense, have QBs that don't suck, have more than 1 WR that doesn't suck (after Whit got hurt), play two halves instead of one, have players that care about winning, etc.. I'm blindly optimistic that the defense will be better because how could it not be. WR is better. QB probably better but TBD. Culture? Reportedly better but who the heck knows, especially once things get tough. So to me, this seasons hinges on QB, defense, and culture. If none of them improve, we're looking at 6 wins. If they all improve materially, we could easily be looking at 9 wins. Gotta feel there will be some improvement at QB although there will be growing pains. Imo the other two could be drastically better or no better at all, I have no idea.
  11. Nike isn't going to pull the plug on B1G teams. The company isn't Phil's little pet project anymore. Not to mention he probably still likes money. That said, he's clearly an influential guy in the sports world and can flex some muscles in all this.
  12. Is Sark the Fashionista? wtf? Also lol at saying Sark got fired from his previous 2 head coaching gigs. Apparently leaving UW to take the USC job counts as getting fired in Looch's book. Good fact checking Billy!
  13. There will be growing pains at QB, people need to temper expectations a bit early in the year. Ewers hasn’t played a competitive college snap, he will make some bad mistakes like all newbies. Agree that QB play impacts OL a lot. Card had zero pocket presence early last year. The other thing that helps both the QB and the OL is having WRs that actually get open so the QB can get the ball out. No question we should be a lot better in that category.
  14. Agree also bc of major upgrades at WR. The most underrated factor though is team mentality. We probably lost 2-3 games last year bc of it (2nd half collapses and Kansas). Fix that alone and we’re probably looking at 7-5 last year. Can they fix it? Idk.
  15. Where do you think Campbell cracks the lineup first? RT or G? My uninformed guess is only Banks starting week 1, then maybe 1-2 others sometime after Bama. Unfortunate that only Hutson was an EE bc otherwise it could be a different story.
  16. Theoretically Jones could become serviceable with another year of development and the move to RT. Not holding my breath but we’ll see. Majors was fine second half of last year. I’m not too worried about him or Angilau. Conner was bad when he played last year, but of course he was a true frosh so I’d expect improvement. Again, we’ll see.
  17. I'll be surprised if Williams starts this year. Sounds like some classic 9.95er kool-aid. I think it'll be Banks, Ang, Majors, Connor/Campbell, Jones/Campbell.
  18. But will he be willing to move inside later? Seems pretty uncommon for guys to make that move unless they’re struggling
  19. Just wonder if he could make a quicker and possibly greater impact at G. I.e. I’d rather have him as an All American G than an above average T, especially if Banks and Jones/Cam can handle the tackle spots.
  20. Wonder if they flew too close to the sun with that very publicized Nico deal
  21. Why not I wonder? With ND, Clemson, Miami, and FSU, plus all the bball schools, that'd be a good conference.
  22. If I'm in charge of each conference: ACC: Getting Notre Dame is pretty much a do or die proposition. Gotta go all in on them, give them what they want. Imo the ACC can survive all this but they need ND. If they get ND, they could then go poach 3 others - I'd go for TCU, UH, and WVU, Cincy, or UCF. That would be a good conference. SEC: I don't really think this changes much tbh. SEC is still easily the top dog with the TX/OU additions. If some ACC schools are interested, cool, but no need to do anything. Big 10: Go for ND, Oregon, and UW, in that order. (as a fan, I hate the addition of West Coast teams but whatever) Could also look at Cincy, WVU, Kansas. Pac / Big 12: Have to merge together. Probably too many schools to do that now which is where the ACC poaching a few Big 12 schools could actually be mutually beneficial. Pretty much no way they can catch the other 3 at this point, but they could remain relevant by merging.
  23. I still refuse to believe Oregon and Phil Knight get left out of all this.
  24. It’s Twitter silly season again. Be careful out there.
