  1. I love the complaining I'm hearing from folks bringing politics into the games.......yet, the Russians aren't playing. How do you have a tourney on this level and leave out some of the best players in the world? And speaking of that, remember when the Russians were the bad guys? Yes, I'm old. Who knew the modern-day Summit Series would be between two, close allies. Strange days......and they keep getting stranger.
  2. Holy Smokes.....is this real?
  3. This February schedule for Dallas sucks. Only two home games in February and nothing until the 28th? Awesome scheduling.
  4. I need to stop buying tickets to NBA games. Bought tickets for the Milwaukee game last night and Lillard and the Freak sit. Have tickets for the Phoenix game tomorrow and looks like Durant is out. Hope his ankle gets better. (I know it's trade related). In 38 years of going to NHL games, I can't remember ever witnessing a star player sitting a game out for rest (Lemieux sat for cancer treatment which seemed like a pretty legit injury). Oh well.
  5. Saw it tonight. Really enjoyed it and the acting was superb. Only one complaint..... How in the hell was that 4-door, Sierra Gold, '57 Chevy in EVERY street scene in 1961? Must have been in 8 shots. More shots and it could have been nominated for best supporting actor. And that Studebaker Lark somehow was all over NYC in 1961 and then appeared at the 1965 Newport Pop Fest. What a coincidence.
  6. I'm really surprised Queer didn't receive a single nomination, at least for Daniel Craig or Original Score. Craig was excellent in that.
  7. What's interesting about this OKC-Dallas rivalry this season is the situation regarding Washington and Hartenstein. PJ plays like an all-star against OKC and the Thunder bring in Hartenstein to address this kind of thing. Then Hartenstein sits out 3 of those games this year and Dallas wins. The off game, Hartenstein plays/PJ sits and OKC wins. Will be interesting to see these two in the same game. Dort losing his mind last night didn't help. Bonehead move. Dallas definitely has their number.
  8. Went to the OKC/Cleveland game tonight. Damn.......that was the loudest that building has been in a while. Place was nuts. OKC looks to have some talent.
  9. A little budget accommodation rec for people traveling on a shoestring or backpacking and need a place to crash for a night or two from a Japan veteran. One place you can crash is La Qua onsen by the Tokyo Dome overnight, quite comfortable.....or you can find an APA hotel one night for around 6,000-7,000 yen. Then there's always the capsules. Another idea is the internet cafe with padded mats, blanket, and pillow. All you can drink bar. Get in around 11pm and do their 12-hour night pack for 2,700 yen. You're going to drop a 1,000 yen on internet anyway. Did this several times during my gaijin days. Although it is a far cry from the JW Marriott. However, if you're only visiting Japan once or twice in your life, spend the yennies and get a nice hotel/ryokan. And for fun, try one night at a love hotel.
  10. A lot of this is just a great example of the common courtesy of Japanese people. Always think about how your actions impact others. Wish we had that kind of thinking in the US. Having said that, when you stumble upon one of those black vans driving around Tokyo shouting crazy, Right-wing political silliness over a loudspeaker, you might rethink that noise thing.
  11. Not sure if this has already been posted but some advice for budget travelers.......JAL has a budget airline called Zip Air so they're quality. They only have US flights out of - I think - San Jose, San Francisco and maybe Seattle - but they have great budget connections around Asia. Starting in March, they're have flights out of Houston. They might be worth checking out. Granted, with the yen at 157 right now, you're going to save some yennies anyway......but why not more. https://www.zipair.net/en
  12. Agreed. Have seen Beck a few times and he's always killed it. I'd go with The White Stripes. Saw them at a place called Shibuya-Ax in Tokyo in 2003. Their warmup act - Whirlwind Heat out of Detroit - rocked it far more. Wasn't impressed with WS.
  13. I caught Michael Longfellow at the Dallas Comedy Club in June and didn't laugh one time. Wasn't impressed. His warmup act - a local guy named Dez O'Neal - was much funnier.
  14. Pretty good SpittinChiclets podcast with Duchene yesterday.....if you're into that. I've never been a big Stars fan but they've sure signed some good FA's over the recent years.
  15. Saw this last night for the very first time. Wow! Glad I waited for the IMax experience. Not sure I would have chosen McConaughey for that role but great film.
  16. I thought it was great. Craig did an incredible job with this role and the drug experience in Ecuador was remarkably shot. Weird hearing modern rock songs in a period piece but it works. The sex scenes are enough to scare off the homophobes but overall was a cool film.
  17. Went to a Stars game last night for the first time in 18 months. What a turd. Robertson might as well be skating around with a freagin umbrella out there. Annununnunun stood on his lips. Saw him a few months ago in Colorado and can't understand why the Aves traded him. Decent. Best part of the night was the Modano statue. What an absolute beaut of a sculpture. The CCM Tacks look like you could sharpen him and do some down and backs. Kudos to the artist. Such better quality than those goofy Heisman statues they have on the Oklahoma campus.
  18. And I'm betting your gaijin friend was the fattest guy in the room.
  19. This was following first round treatment for lymphoma? MD Anderson?
  20. May I ask, where are you having this done? Maintenance infusions every 6 weeks (I'm assuming Rituximab) is interesting. I've heard of maintenance every two or three months for 2 years but not 6 weeks.
  21. Good Lord......those stupid Oklahoma State uniforms.....can we please stop trying to look pretty and actually focus on winning a damned conference game??? University kid football is getting ridiculous.
  22. I noticed the promotional schedule has been released. lncluding.... Feb 2 Alumni Game (could be cool) Feb 28 Black History Night March 4 Pride Night March 18 Noche Mexicana Have the Stars had these pride nights before? I don't remember. Been to one in LA and it was actually kinda fun.
  23. Wow! Brings back memories of the Pelle Lindberg story......first thing in the morning on ESPN.......another New Jersey accident.

    Jimi

Wow! That's the first time I've heard about that Wichita show. Thanks for sharing. That would have been an excellent venue. Hendrix obviously played some decent arenas like San Diego Sports Arena, LA Forum, Tulsa Convention Center, Etc. But he also played some less than ideal barns like the OU Fieldhouse in Oklahoma. Terrible acoustics.

The Experience Hendrix tour will be hitting San Antonio - Houston - Fort Worth - October 9-10-11. Highly recommended. Is there anyone here that actually attended a Hendrix concert live? He played Texas numerous times.
