They get NO QUARTER ever again for the 10-9 joke they've made, ever since that Cotton Bowl and the fumbled punt cost us another MNC.

and missed holding (tackling the defender) call on the TD.

I can’t believe that it took me by surprise, but the aggy combination of impotent rage, lack of self awareness, and complete inability to read the room actually shocked me.  Must be a decade out of practice.

They other schools’ reps and legs are just pandering for votes and scrambling for what benefits them.  Not surprising that they’ll work any angle - they’re desperate.

But aggy is actually going to make money, gets a high chair at the adults table, and yet they feel betrayed and a minority (however sizeable) is willing to torpedo their football future over it by walking away.

Just jaw-dropping in its childishness and stupidity.

Yeah.  Can't believe you are such an idiot to be taken by surprise!

Yes, Arkansas correctly saw that the SWC wasn't viable because of its small TV footprint and the strong presence of the NFL in Texas. UT saw it too, and UT officials even told Arkansas officials they needed to go first to provide cover for UT to make a move since politically UT couldn't be the school to blow up the conference.

The SEC's courtship of UT has been going on for over 30 years.

Georgia president talked to Bill Cunningham, but Cunningham didn't want to join the SEC with the academic excesses.

I spent a year working on a SMU death penalty documentary (Pony Excess- the series finale of the original ESPN 30 for 30) and was present for most interviews we did for the film + countless discussions with people who were involved during that era from all SWC conference schools.

It became very clear that all schools had substantial "big bagman" groups, except maybe Rice.

I loved Dickerson's quote in that.  Some schools were paying more than us but didn't win as much (pretty sure he was referring to aggy).

Right. TV, but SMU and aggy started the ball rolling. They blame us because they were cheating their asses off and got caught.

Cowboys and Oilers played a part, damaging the fan support of Rice, SMU and TCU.  There was about a 10 year period when aggy played their home games vs. Rice at Rice Stadium because they drew more fans there.

OU and Georgia suing and winning vs. the NCAA created the TV money problem.  SMU and aggy cheating.  All the probations lead recruits to leave the state.

Cut & pasted from other posts, ...

Johnny “Lam” Jones,  1978 Olympic Gold Medalist, 4x100 Relay.

Lam scored eight touchdowns of 45 yards or more in his career in the burnt orange. On the track, Jones scored 29 points during the 1977 SWC Championships and ran a 9.85 100 meters during the 1977 Texas Relays.

His 9.85 100 meter time was not accepted for record purposes, as the cable to the time clock had been “spiked” by a shoe.

Johnny won an Olympic Gold Medal at age 18, before he played for UT.  I cannot remember what other Olympic Gold Medalists played college football as a medalist at UT, or any other place.  While many are characterized with “Olympic Speed”, Johnny is one of the few college football players, if not the only one, with an Olympic Gold Medal to prove it.

IIRC, when he practiced for the 220/200 in high school, he would run down the football field, sling around the goal post, and run back.

Seemed like a really nice down to earth guy.  Lived in Jester when he was there as a freshman.  Didn't really chat with each other, but we passed all the time in the stairwell.  Would give each other a nod or hi.

I've been friends with Donovan Forbes for 30 years. Great guy. Still looks like he could suit up.

We ran into Switzer one day and he immediately recognized Donovan and says, "If you'd played for me, you'd still be playing football."

Guy had an arm. Watched him throw 90+ mph in an over 30 baseball league.

We sure had a dry spell between Bobby Layne and Major/Simms.

Street was great, but not a pro style QB.

One after another 5 star did nothing on the 40 acres.  Remember Todd Dodge getting SO much hype.  He's a good HS football coach.

You know how you fix that? Actually good coaching. PK hasn't started with Bama-level LBs, but he's made his shit work at the highest level.

Hopefully, but he hasn't done it against Big 12 offenses.  Manny was the biggest thing in the SEC which was pretty vanilla on offense back then.  Then he moved to the Big 12.  Greg Robinson turned Manny's mess around in 2 games by simplifying the defense.

Often something unique works until the other coaches figure it out.  And then it collapses.

Yeah and 1 of the dbs (or more than 1) is big enough to come in the box and play a linebacker role when called upon.  His 2-4-5 could behave like a 4-3-4 or 3-4-4 or 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 anytime he wants.

Sounds like a Manny Diaz defense.  If you don't have 1st or 2nd round LBs, the other team eats your lunch because your players are spending too much time thinking.

It is not really an argument.  The cult of Applewhite is claiming that 1+1 = potato, those who recognize that Simms was the better QB know the answer is somewhere between 1 and 3.

Simms was more talented.  Major was a winner.  Mack cost us a chance to play in the BCS title game and get creamed by Miami by not understanding the difference.

I think Charlie Strong killed it.  Checked in one day and it was gone.

Was thinking BurntOrange Fan Zone.  It was populated by the deadenders from the Longhorn Fan Zone when it went dark.  I discovered it 2-3 months after LHFZ bit the dust.

Wheeler would pop in to BOFZ periodically.

Vince-Lane-Colt-Street is the Texas qb Mt. Rushmore. #5 is where the debate starts.

    Simms>Major tho.

#5-7 are pretty easy.  Just the order is in question.

    Major, Sam, Peter.

Peter gets on the list if for no other reason than the story of his senior year playing baseball.  Gardere is the only Texas QB to beat OU 4 straight years.  He also played baseball.  OU fans were heckling him in the outfield.  He just quietly held up 4 fingers.  Heckling stopped.

You are a cornucopia of weird football takes.

That is not "just below the shoulder." It's a kidney and lower ribs shot.

Ribs aren't just below the shoulder?  And kidney would be right where that plate is.  He's hit right where that muscle extends down his back from his arm.

Blake Gideon will forever be posterized for that sure INT drop against Tech. He should be very far down the list of reasons why we lost that game.

-Playing uninspired and slow out of the gate? Check.

-Giving up a safety by handing the ball off deep in your endzone? Check.

-Pick six thrown by Colt McCoy in the third quarter? Check.

-Big12 refs not calling blatant holding against Tech? Check.

-Not letting the play clock wind down to less than 5 seconds on our go ahead drive? Check.

Unfortunately that was by far the most memorable play of the game. All of our pain and suffering from the game would have ended had he hung on to that INT. The ball was tumbling end over end and Blake was running at near full speed to try to catch it. I have seen easier "sure catches" dropped.

Criticizing him for catching the fake punt INT against Alabama is some nitpicky shit. He probably was shocked that Alabama chose to run a fake punt from their own 20 to begin with. I'd honestly rather him catch the ball than fuck up trying to tip/bat down the pass and end up tipping it into the Alabama receiver's hands. God forbid we start on Alabama's 37 vs their 20.

To me, his friendly fire kill shot and the shit talking while getting beat by OU receivers in 2011 are far more egregious acts.

We could piece a far more hilarious lowlight reel of Dylan Haines getting hurdled during Charlie Strong blowout losses.

Don't forget the schedule the Big 12 gave us.  We started a 4 game stretch against teams ranked in the top 11 in the country.  Tech was the 4th game of that stretch.  It was one of the killer stretches of all time in college football in the regular season.  We opened conference play with Colorado, then OU who was ranked #1, Missouri was #11, Oklahoma St. was #7 and we played at #6 Texas Tech.

I would have been doing the same thing, had we not almost had an "incident" at the beginning of the game.  For about the first 5 minutes of the game, my wife had been walking around the house, doing whatever things wives do that don't include watching television.  She then decides to plop down on the sofa, watches a couple minutes, then says, "Is there anything else on?  I don't want to watch football."  I nearly exploded...words were exchanged.  Regardless of the exact words I used, I think the crazed look on my face spoke more about the seriousness of the situation, and she decided it was a good time to go to bed.  Although I had won the battle for the TV that night, I didn't want to be a complete dickhead, and I was in a much better mood by the end of the game.

My wife and kids had gone to bed.  I had really wanted to go to the 2005 and 2006 games, but with young kids it was just going to be too difficult and expensive.

So I stood in the den watching alone, always confident.  When we fell behind 38-26 my faith started to waiver.  Then the cat walked in.  Sat on his haunches beside me and watched the rest of the game with me.  He NEVER did that-before or after.  Right then, I was sure we would win.  Even the cat knew it would be a special finish!

  16. Well Sark did coach in Washington and the nation's #1 recruit is a DE from Washington who still isn't committed, so anything that helps (even if he is on the opposite side of the ball).  Now 247's #43 is uncommitted (but expected to go to LSU) and he is a WR from Louisiana.  And USC is the 100% favorite for an uncommitted Californian LB who is #67.  He could complete the trifecta with his former schools by flipping #26 who is a safety out of Florida who is choosing between Florida and Alabama.
