That has more to do with Texas's decade of mediocrity than anything.

The Big 10 is an absolute steaming shit pile after Ohio State.  They have large schools with lots of alums in big cities, but those programs aren't any better than the Big 12 ones.  The SEC?  Yeah, they have more high end schools than any other league.  The ACC is Clemson and everyone else (I don't count Notre Dame when it's a one year deal).  The Pac 12?  Ok.

There's one conference that's actually better than the Big 12 on a regular basis.  There are only 2 that make more money.  The "Big 12 sucks" sentiment has been mostly self fulfilling prophecy, but it's been going on for decades and people just can't be objective about any of it.

Doesn't have anything to do with how good the teams are.  There are 40-50% more voices, more sportswriters, more votes in NCAA matters.

  2. In the SWC retrospective, Dodds is saying the Big 12 still thinks it needs to get bigger.

You can see the negative in a lot of ways when the Big 10 and SEC have 14 and the ACC 15.  The Big 12 simply doesn't have as much clout or recognition.

I really enjoyed the Pony Excess doc, and never at any point felt sympathy for SMU.  The doc made it quite clear that they were cheating their asses all the way off.

I loved when Dickerson talked about how others were paying more than SMU was and not getting as good a results.

He might have been talking about TCU, but I figured he was talking about aggy who gave him a car.

But the football, personalities,  and the conference  politics were fun during the era up until about 1990.

The Pony Excess 30/30 documentary pretty much sums the conference politics and recruiting shenanigans  pretty good.

The part from Sonny Dykes was fun, how all the coaches were come over to have drinks with his Dad (Tech coach) the night before the games.

And how you simply couldn't imagine Saban going over and having a drink with Gus Malzahn the night before the Iron Bowl.

That is a myth, right up alongside the idea that Bob Bullock told the University of Texas "YOU BETTER TAKE BAYLOR OR YOU WON'T GET ANY MONEY!" and our reaction was anything other than "we'll see you in court".

    That article is 90% horseshit.

Its mostly right--except for that part.  Texas didn't need to be told that Tech and Baylor had to go along.  We weren't stupid Aggies.  Bullock had to take the Aggies into the back room and pull out the whip and throw a few dollars around to get them to see political reality.

What happens if enough players opt out of the season for covid reasons?

    Then the games get cancelled.

I don't have too much of a problem this year with Covid.  But in a regular year, its pretty shitty to quit on your team before the season is out (non playoff bowl games don't really count as part of the season).

Not someone I would be particularly interested in drafting.

The defenders pressure caused him to throw it away...... which is basically the definition of grounding.

The ref said the defender hitting his arm disrupted the pass, making it fall short of the line of scrimmage.

Yeah I'm sure they felt great.  Wooohooo.  Texas in '83 only wins if Nebraska loses.  If they tie that game with Miami, no way in hell Texas wins the MNC had they won their bowl game.

Either way, our teams fucked it all up, and let the fucking cheatin Hurricanes start a dynasty in the process.

Texas would be virtually unanimous if they won and Nebraska tied in 1983.  That was the game everyone wanted but the bowl tie ins prevented.

I can say that having lived it, breathed it, 1970 certainly did not feel like a national championship to me.

Losing like we did to Notre Dame really dampened that season that saw us crush Arkansas and escape UCLA.

It was a great season except for that last game.

One of the great images from that Arkansas game when it was early and I am pretty sure Arkansas had just tied the game and had us pinned deep....and this happened from inside our own 10. He did not score but it was a nice long run that got us out of the hole and from there we crushed them.spacer.png

We won by the standards of the time.  Just like Alabama claims they are undisputed 1965 national champs despite Arkansas, who beat us, going unbeaten, while we whipped Willie Joe and Bear in the Orange.  Bowls were still more of an exhibition in those days.

Absolutely counts and felt like one.  Would have been better if we won the Cotton Bowl, though.

Ugly 2nd half against Tulsa...   YUCK!!!

The AAC has announced SMU-Houston and Navy-USF will not be played this weekend.

I just saw the 4th quarter.  Shane didn't look good, but the play calling was really bad.

love Sam, gamer,  loves Texas, will do anything to win.  he's a slightly above average college QB at this point.  he doesn't see the field well.

not sure if that is injury, coaching, not trusting his line.

that said I want Herman fired badly but I would love for Sam to walk off the field with a Big 12 championship once.

Sam was obviously hurt the last couple of weeks.  He looked much healthier.

I agree we were owed that in terms of cosmic balance but objectively, brutal no call.

one thing I don’t think I realized before just now was that WVU was 4th in total defense nationally. Some consolation but come the fuck on offense. That was uuuuuugly.

We weren't taking what they were giving us.  And a lot was on Sam, not the coaches.

  13. Sam only 15-31.  But he seemed more accurate than the last couple of weeks.  Receivers just couldn't hold onto the ball.

Also thought Sam made some bad decisions.  On at least 5 occasions, including a couple of 3rd downs,  he went 30 yards downfield on a 50/50 or 60/40 play instead of a 90/10 pass to the back that probably would have been a 1st down.  One of those was on that next to last drive.  Looked like a sure first down on the uncovered receiver to the right and he threw it long.

Weird to be on the benefitting side of bad officiating calls. But we were owed.

haven’t applied a beat down in Lawrence since 2008 with 21-17 and 24-17 wins, as well as a loss. Throw in the Herman one score game factor and next week scares you to death.

Other than the lack of PI on that 4th down, the calls were good.  And while that would have been PI in the 1st quarter, they rarely call it on a key play in the 4th.  We've been victim of many of those non-calls.

Lulz at thinking losing twice to shitty teams is acceptable. That's a problem with the Tom Herman program.

Well OU is shitty only because they are OU, not because they are a bad team.

And TCU is coached by the best coach west of Tuscaloosa.

We will never make the playoff. It’ll never happen in my lifetime nor my kids not their kids nor ever. This was the only year we had even a remote chance. And we blew it as we always do. Four fucking turnovers against an unranked team with two losses. This has to be hilarious from the outside but goddamnit I just want one year. One, and I’d be happy with that one year. I’ve turned to other hobbies and interests but I let myself care again for this year only. What a fucking mistake. I wish I could be like some of my friends who don’t follow these games at all and don’t care. I want more than anything to be capable of not caring anymore. Congrats guys. Order has been restored. We won’t bother you anymore under Urban Meyer.

You should have been there in 2011.  You would have whipped LSU.  They couldn't score enough to keep up with that team.
