  1. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/early-exits-for-texas-oklahoma-could-help-big-12-repay-members-that-agreed-to-diluted-revenue-upon-expansion/ "...Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech agreed to share a portion of their media rights distributions from the Big 12's existing deals with Fox and ESPN to make possible the league's recent expansion with BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF joining the fold in the 2023-24 athletic season. The vote (believed to be held last year) was 8-0 in favor of the move with Texas and Oklahoma abstaining, multiple sources tell CBS Sports. Each of the eight legacy Big 12 schools agreed to forego $16 million total ($8 million annually in 2023-24 and 2024-25), approximately 19% of their $42.6 million annual distributions, sources said. Each of the four new Big 12 members are set to receive $18 million to $19 million annually, approximately 40% of the original annual distribution.... If Texas and Oklahoma leave after the 2023-24 season, they would be on the hook for early termination fees with each surrendering at least their final year of media rights distribution. CBS Sports previously reported those early exit fees could total as much as $168 million. However, such a penalty would likely be negotiated down to about 60% to 65% of the original total, industry sources said.... Speculation has raged that Texas and Oklahoma have no desire to play the four new Big 12 members, though they have already committed to remain in the league for the upcoming season. The conference is in the process of finalizing a schedule for all 14 programs...." Maybe we only play each other and the R8. R8 plays 3 of the 4 newbies and 4 of the other 7 R8. Newbies play each other and 6 of the R8. That actually makes the most sense for us and the R8.
  2. Think its pretty clear the no votes came from ISU, KU, KSU and OSU. At least 3 of those 4. The narrative was too many Texas teams.
  3. Right. There are 10 existing members who would think that is a bad idea.
  4. That aggy and SEC started dominating Texas HS recruiting is a false narrative. Now aggy did a lot better than they did in the post Slocum years. And Charlie Strong absolutely stunk at recruiting and Hermann had some struggles. But what was happening was the CFP contenders were coming in and taking the top players-Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio St. It wasn't Tennessee and Florida and Ole Miss. LSU didn't do any better than they had historically. And aggy didn't do much better than they did in the 80s and early 90s. What has happened since UT and OU announced for the SEC is that UT, OU and aggy combined are dominating Texas recruiting in a way they haven't done in my memory. Probably since the 70s.
  5. Maybe still in school and never had to deal with aggy in the real world.
  6. I went to two different HSs and don't even remember either having a fight song. The 2nd one was the Mustangs and had SMU's colors, so it wouldn't be any surprise if they used SMU's song as well.
  7. The young lady who died was the driver.
  8. It was the evening (2:45 am) after their victory parade. The other football player in the car, McLendon, suffered only minor injuries according to his Father, but the other staffer is still in serious condition.
  9. Needs it next year. First 9 games doesn't play a team who finished better than 7-4---and that is the FCS opponent. Then he's got USCe and Ole Miss who were 8-5 before finishing with 11-2 Tennessee. They will have to really fall flat on their face to not start 9-0 and should be 11-0 going into Tennessee.
  10. But there's too much money to do away with them. He made them. He owns them.
  11. In 1977 we were undefeated #1. We knew we had a flawed team in 1990. So the big 1978 Cotton Bowl loss really hurt. Not as embarrassing, but still a big loss.
  12. We all know they can't call penalties with replay. Nobody is talking about that.
  13. And the Texas coaches other than Rice left us off. Even KSU and UTSA left us off.
  14. 25 is the latest possible. I think they will figure out 24. But we're still in the Big 12 in 23.
  15. Like you just pointed out-5 turnovers by Gilbert.
  16. Pete Thamel on ESPN said the Big 10 movers and shakers were ticked with Warren that he kept pushing expansion beyond LA and kept talking about it. And that was part of the reason he left. As long as he was there, I still thought UW and Oregon happen this year. Now it sounds like no more now.
  17. Ok, so this he's over 40 thread isn't another one on Stetson Bennett???
  18. Well I remember the shock the world tour as well as the magical 1977 season with parades on the drag following a 5-5-1 year. Yeah, I remember those two Cotton Bowls also. Don't know what non-Longhorns remember.
  19. SEC is going to be better, but over the last 10 years, the Big 12 is usually the #2 conference even without the NFL talent. In 2021, the Pac 12 wasn't even the 5th best conference.
  20. I know kids who got into Cornell, Georgia Tech and Florida who got wait listed at Georgia. One who got into Tulane who got rejected by Georgia. Its become really difficult to get into, especially if you went to a good HS. Their Ag school is their best program and they are having trouble getting students they want because admission is done overall. UGA used to import Texas students. They would recruit in Texas in the 90s and early 00s. One sorority was known as the "Texas" sorority. But now, Georgia is exporting students to Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi.
  21. Yeah, but I still wasn't terribly disappointed that we weren't there to be bitch slapped.
  22. Kirby did a great job preparing for this game. Every play on offense worked pretty much the entire first half. They did a lot of different things. And they mostly shut TCU down on defense.
  23. He accounted for himself well except for the 5 turnovers he personally committed.
  24. Yes. I would think the R8 would want as much Texas and OU as they could. There are 14 teams and 9 games, so that means you skip 4 of the other 13. I'm guessing OU and UT skip 2 of the new 4.
  25. Top 11 in 2023 247 Texas HS recruiting-UT/OU/aggy + 1 Alabama and 1 USC. TCU does have two of the 2nd 10, but nobody else until #48. Top 24 in 2022-UT/OU/aggy 18 of the 24. CFP national champs (LSU/UGA/AL/Ohio St./Clemson) had the other 6. TCU's top was #26.
