  1. I wouldn't draw conclusions one way or another based on Cheez It Bowl press conferences.
  2. it is so, so, so very bad. Hate watching something can be enjoyable in its own right, but the writing and acting on this show - with a few exceptions - is awful.
  3. Do you actually think Texas would be so concerned with playing an experienced RB for the Cheez It Bowl that they would be leveraged into panicking and paying more for Wisner so he could play in the bowl game? If so, I can assure you that is not the case.
  4. you need to subscribe to my newsletter for that info - $10.95.
  5. Do you think you could be convinced of anything, provided enough of the world's best psychologists, psychiatrists, motivational speakers, and negotiators? Not just your opinions, but core aspects of your sense of self and how you interact with the world? I'm not trying to be confrontational or play gotcha, I just think satisfaction with this show is enhanced by exploring the questions presented around what are foundational aspects of being human - what makes people happy? the interplay between the individual and the corporate? the rational and irrational parts of humanity? Can you be loved as an individual when everyone is treated the same? Is it wrong to be dissatisfied with that (as Carol is)? - and less about looking for plot holes about the hive mind or focusing on the aliens. I'm not saying those things aren't legitimate, and everyone is obviously free to enjoy shows on whatever terms they like - it is just that the show is pretty transparently an exploration of humanity (with COVID and AI clearly serving as background inspiration) and not engaging it on those terms will lead to frustration and dissatisfaction.
  6. A few of the early enrollees are practicing, but they cannot play in the bowl game.

the bolded was definitely not true for Baxter. His biggest flaw was his poor contact balance and lack of toughness, which led to an inability to break tackles commensurate with his measurables. Texas will be better at the RB position next year, undoubtedly. I think it is extremely likely that Texas will be significantly better at RB next year. I will fondly remember Wisner for what he did, but he was miscast as a lead back and Baxter was a miss.

this is good for the long term health of the program. It is good to establish that the team won't overpay for non-premium talent for nostalgia reasons.
  9. PK should be remembered fondly as a great DC who oversaw some excellent Texas defenses and left the defense in a much better place than he found it. But it is undeniable that tying the secondary to the front was a persistent issue, and the only truly excellent defense Texas fielded had Barron, Mukuba, and Taaffe - three highly intelligent, very experienced players - running the secondary. PK's greatest strength was in his willingness/ability to collaborate. He was truly a low ego coach in a profession and era where egos run rampant. The downside of his approach is that the defense often suffered from the "too many cooks in the kitchen" dynamic. You know that old saying, that a camel is a horse made by committee? The Texas defense frequently embodied that saying, in my view. FWIW, I am a fan of this move. I think it takes guts to move on from a very successful coordinator, and I understand it can be read as either bold or desperate. I do think PK's bend don't break style is a better match for teams without access to elite talent, and not as effective against disciplined, talented offenses that top teams tend to have. One of my low key bigger worries for next year was having Tennessee and Miss St on the schedule, given PK's known struggle against the veer and shoot (especially with TN being the first road game of the year). I will never, ever, ever understand why Texas didn't pressure a gimpy Lagway - and in some ways, that decision/gameplan/unwillingness to adapt cost Texas the playoff. Staff continuity is a good things in many ways, but it can also lead to stagnation. Texas had gotten too comfortable, in my opinion, and since Bo Davis left lacked a true ass kicking voice. I think - beyond just being a good and experience coordinator - Muschamp will bring a lot of needed intangibles to the program.

Whittington was a true team guy. Moore was a guy who figured out it was good for business to be perceived as a team guy.

Moore threatened to transfer near the end of the portal window last year and leveraged a pay bump. He then proceeded to change and turn into a diva and turned in a season that fell short of expectations. What makes you think he’d get the same money from Texas this year? Moore is exactly the kind of guy who needs to be pushed out of the program - whether transferring to another school or going to the NFL. It is good that players can get paid now. But money can and does change people. It is hard enough to figure out how the money affects players in the NFL - guys who are professionals and older. It is much harder to figure out who can and can’t handle it when the players are teenagers, many of whom have friends/families in their ears without their best longterm interests in mind. Sark has talked a lot about how Texas doesn't lead with NIL in recruiting and how they try to ID guys who love football, because those guys are more likely to develop and not be changed by the money. If that is true, and it is an ongoing learning process for any program, then (in my view anyway) it is a sign of health to say no to established players who thinking they are worth more than they actually are. Texas would have been better served saying no to Moore last year, and I’m hopeful that lessons are being learned.
  12. the following is all public information: https://stormininnorman.com/patty-gasso-finally-gives-update-on-sophia-bordi-return-oklahoma-sooners-softball Bordi was not with the team most of last season. She returned home to, in her words, "work on her personal/mental health"
  13. There's more to it than that.
  14. I agree, but then I wonder about how to form any conclusions about any QB in a Sherrone Moore offense.
  15. I’m trying to imagine what belief is off the table for someone who earnestly believes a 10 year old has multiple major programs offering scholarships. This is way beyond flat earth or faked moon landing territory. I’m sure there is something that would be more outlandish and unbelievable, but I’m coming up empty.
  16. Moore is the poster child for how this era hinders development. He came in as a guy who “did everything right”. Then he pulled that leverage move where he threatened to transfer, Texas caved, and the combination of the money and “winning” the leverage play put him in a different mindset - and whatever steps forward you would want to see in development from a sophomore to junior year sure didn’t seem to show up on the field. Hindsight is 20/20, but Texas would have been better off finding an established G5/lower P4 guy looking to prove himself for 2/3 the money.
  17. the thing killing this program right now are the mid 4-star types who think they are 5-star sure fire NFL first round picks, and act like it despite not having earned a damn thing. Most of these kids have agents and family members in their ears telling them to sit out, protect their draft stock, don't risk putting up bad film if less than 100%, don't risk injury playing against lesser teams. These are back ups, mind you. Texas has indulged this the last few years. It bit them in the ass this year and will continue to bite them in the ass if something doesn't change. I'm hopeful that it will. I'm increasingly of the mind that Texas should pay a premium for the no doubt unique talents and pay for proven production and avoid/be hyper selective for those upper mid tier high school recruits. Time will tell, but I'm growing in my belief that this new evolution of free transfers and 6/7 figure payments out of high school are hindering the development of a high proportion of these guys. Find the ones who are truly devoted to the craft and/or know how to handle the money and have a support system around them that is conducive to development. Otherwise, find the ones who form their work ethic at the G5/lower P4 level and have successfully developed and bring them in.
  18. Saw this in HEB last week. Have not tried it. Don't think I intend to.
  19. I don't understand where Notre Dame's leverage is coming from. They need the CFP more than the CFP needs them. If Notre Dame whines and cries and refused to sign onto whatever CFP arrangement is ratified by the conferences, their recruiting will absolutely tank - why would any player with options go to a school that can't win a national championship? What fan would think a playoff champion would be illegitimate because a weakened Notre Dame wasn't participating? Notre Dame deserves no special treatment - they are not bigger than the sport. If they want the protections and guarantees affording to conferences, they should join a conference. If they insist on being independent then they get treated as any other independent. If their record and strength of schedule merit inclusion, they are eligible to be included. Nothing more, nothing less. Why do so many administrators feel the need to bend the knee to Notre Dame? What on earth can Notre Dame possibly do? They have no leverage, yet they make demands and expect special treatment.
  20. people need to read this, then read it again, then read it a third time - a lot has been written about Baxter and it is true insofar as he is an outstanding worker, person, teammate, etc. But what CTJ wrote isn't usually included in the gushing, and it is absolutely true and need to be understood as part of the bigger picture.

  22. she's playing with fire and probably should retire for her own good. I posted an article from a syracuse paper a while back outlining her eye issues. It's good to see her doing well at Syracuse, but she didn't have a future at Texas.
