That's an interesting one. Of course, Helo had Montgomery starting over Montas.

I am very okay with Montgomery being traded!

    Gallo to the Dodgers:

He needed a change of scenery. He just progressively lost the ability to hit anything. Some of it is probably playing in New York and the expectations that come with that, but I feel like he was just swinging at everything. I hope he figures it out in LA. If he could just hit for Rob Deer’s average with the power he has then he would regain a whole lot of value.

You could have gone the rest of our lives without uttering “Chris Davis” … 🤬

I remember watching him flail at pitches like he was trying to get back to the dugout ASAP back in 2019. What a spectacle that was to watch.

Aww man I liked that guy when he was here! To go from him to Josh Donaldson was night and day personality-wise.

I’m seldom surprised and never shocked when NYY pulls off a deal.  They always look favorable on paper .. even Gallo.  I think it’s a testament to their scouting to always have enuf desirable prospects to make the ML level deals work.

I’m a huge Mancini fan .. as a person more than a player.  A great guy who deserves a real shot at a ring.

Hoo boy did Gallo just go full Chris Davis here. He should probably not play baseball anymore. I do agree that their scouting department does a really good job. Their prospects, at least in the past, got a bit of a bump hype-wise from being in the Yankees system because of the massive amount of media that covers the team.

It’s hard not to like Mancini. I would have preferred he go to a contender in the NL, but that’s life. If he has some heroics against the Yanks in the post-season it’ll probably come at the expense of Montas. You can bet the farm that the snarky negativity expressed earlier in this thread will be on display again if my support of the newest Yankee starter has a boom goes the dynamite moment…lol.

In the old days, the KC A’s were viewed as a Yanks farm team for always filling NYY needs.  In the last week, the Yanks reached down to KC and the A’s to fill holes.  Nothing changed but some geography …

I am always somewhat surprised when teams deal with the Yanks. Cashman seems to keep fairly good relationships with every team’s front office that is not in Boston or Houston though. I think he did as well as could be expected in the deadline acquisitions. I also thought Mancini getting his shot to finally win is pretty cool too. That guy is a living testimony to what perseverance in adverse circumstances can do for you.

  7. None of those starts were against anyone that matters in the AL (And only Philly can be looked at as a good team in that group) so yes I am going to do that and have no problem doing so anymore than anyone else would when looking at a player to see where they have struggled.

  8. That is the story of every Oakland post-season for the last 32 years. An entire organization that is snakebit in October. I do not worry about Montas taking the bump against them or anyone else.

I looked at his ERA in his five clunker starts this year, none of which are teams the Yanks will have to go through to advance to the World Series.

    22 earned runs in 27.1 innings= 7.24 ERA.

Rest of the season thus far is 15 earned runs in 77.1 innings which= 1.75 ERA.

So yes I do feel a good bit of confidence about this addition that I have not in prior years when adding an arm.

  9. I went and looked at the game log for Montas. Cleveland lit him up twice. Kansas City did as well (He and Cole have that in common!) and Detroit tagged him as well. Philly got him in the first start too. Against the better teams in the AL he has performed well above average. This is a guy that I feel the Yanks can count on in pressure situations.

I was mostly kidding, but yeah he’s not as good as his stats would have you believe. Playing against the angels & rangers will do that. I’d slot him 4th in the rotation after Coke Cortes & Monty. Sevy could spell him if he comes back this year too.

Well he eats innings which is good. Nestor will have some regression and I am not counting on him being up to the challenge in the post-season. I also do not count on Jordan Montgomery in October. Whatever positives he provides in his starts are a bonus.

Montas I just don’t worry about. He gets the stability of playing for a team with a very realistic goal of getting to the World Series. This deadline has been a really good one for the Yanks. I could not tell you a single thing about Effross though. Sounds like a pretty cool story of a late bloomer. I think he is under team control until 2027 when he would be 33 I believe.

Don’t hate the Montas trade, seems like a decent 5th/6th starter type

    I’m sorry, what?

Montas slots in now at #2 in the rotation. This was a really good trade for both teams. Trivino helps out a good deal as well.

    What's that spell?

The amount of hate contained in that cretin is unending. What an awful existence he has had. Almost eight decades of being angry at the world for not giving him everything he wants.

You almost think that can’t be real, but it is. Just an incredible display of narcissism, hatred and evil.

  13. Interesting thread to look at.

    Catcher: Salvador Perez

    1B: Vlad Jr.

2B DJ Lamahieu He has been a favorite to watch since he came to the Yanks. You can slot him at 1B, 2B, SS or 3B and get Good Glove caliber defense. He is the 3rd most valuable Yankee behind Judge and Cole.

    3B Manny Machado

SS: Tim Anderson He comes across as a hothead, but he can play and usually does well when he comes through the Bronx.

    OF: Judge, Soto, Alvarez, Trout

When Yordan and Soto connect with a pitch the ball just sounds different off their bat. Alvarez would probably hit 60+ homers every year if Yankee Stadium was his home park.

    DH Ohtani

SP:  Cole when he’s not getting lit up by the Royals for five runs in an inning.

Verlander: A first ballot Hall of Famer. The longevity of his career is really impressive. He still has whatever “It” is every trip to Yankee Stadium it seems!

RP: A healthy Aroldis Chapman. When he’s closing I always go stand behind home plate on the lower level to watch him. Seeing him up close and in-person is ridiculous. It feels like watching Randy Johnson when he was in his prime. The pop of the catcher’s glove when he uncorks one well over a 100 is pretty cool to hear.

Well executed CBT is a really wonderful thing and helps so many "illnesses."  I am quite sure there is a "medical" component to most illnesses, as well, but I don't think we have really zeroed in on what it is or how to treat it.  I think the study of brain scans, which is relatively new, is going to lead somewhere on all of it, eventually.

This lady is a leader in the field. https://irp.nih.gov/pi/nora-volkow

The most exciting thing about CBT combined with science and our understanding of the mind is that we get closer and closer to being able to figure out how we work and why. The work done now may not fully benefit any of us, but generations of folks way down the road will be thankful for the time spent on this right now.

  15. I had a chance encounter recently at work. I never seat myself at work because I will just wait until it is my turn to seat a group. Anyhow in comes a man with his wife and daughter for breakfast. I am still getting my bearings, but he looked familiar. Once he said where they were from it clicked in my mind. It was Steven Furtick. Normally I am not in favor of megachurch pastors, but I have listened to several of his sermons on YouTube and I like that he does not dress flashy and just encourages people to come to church as they are.

I speak to him away from the table after they are done because I am sure his wife gets enough people stopping them randomly back home in Charlotte. They were here for his daughter’s five year trip. Each child gets a vacation every five years and since COVID messed hers up last year they brought her to the city to see three Broadway shows. We talked and found out we had a good deal in common. We’re both small town guys and he knew the school my family founded in his home state of South Carolina, which is Wofford College.

He asked me what I was doing with life and I told him getting a masters so that I can be a therapist and work with kids and families, especially children with autism. I told him I worked with people who are hurting emotionally and that I just listen and do what I can to help them have a better day each time I see them. He said God has me right where I am supposed to be and I definitely agreed with that. Anyhow that was a blessing to get to speak with him. Told him if I ever go to Charlotte and it isn’t just to switch planes that I’ll come to a service.

God puts you in a certain place for a certain reason and I am glad I am where I am right now.

He's on pace for 66 right now. He'd have to really cool off to not get well into the 50s.

I feel like he’ll set the Yankee franchise record for sure. Hopefully I can bear witness to a few of them going forward after tonight’s misadventure…lol.

Yeah massive swing and a miss

I want some sherbet though Of course they did cause Manfred called in a rain delay like he always does when the Yankees are losing at home

It did start to rain rather hard and they went to the delay right when they should have. I would’ve probably called for the delay a little earlier than what they did. The rain was just stopping and starting constantly for the last 15 minutes before they took a break.

    Just now, ztejas said:

    Judge gonna get to 60?

Yes. Probably 63-65 with how he’s swinging the bat.

Cooper Manning Syndrome is tough.  Glass half full take:  At least Joey doesn't whine about struggling in the shadow of his 2 very successful brothers, Earnest and Julio.

I always thought Pico was the most successful member of the family.

  19. Judge with two more homers. The last one a grand slam. Did this guy witness either homer tonight? No, no I did not because I got to the game late and then had to leave during the rain delay. The highlight of tonight was coming into the game and some very drunk woman tried to grab ahold of me twice while getting in and her friend had to intervene to tell her to stop. I just laughed and paid her no mind.

  20. I wanted to go to this game today, but I had worked 16 hours yesterday and came back for another 10 this morning and afternoon. Unless he totally falls off the map, Judge will be the MVP. He’s having one of the best seasons in Yankee history and watching him do his thing in person is pretty cool.

He’s a gigantic upgrade over Gallo (but I would be too), but he’s also a slap hitting singles machine like IKF is. Not exactly going to put us over the top. And you just know the FO is shutting it down after this until the deadline.

Hes also a good example of why analytics are often terrible tools for analyzing baseball players. He has just 17 XBH all season, yet his OPS is almost .800 apparently. Very misleading.

Well I don’t expect to see him get a ton of extra base hits. What I do expect is he will get on base and with the hitters behind him he’ll get driven in quite a bit. The Yanks have needed a guy who can get on base more frequently at the top and he can do that.

And the defense markedly improves. Every time I see Stanton in the outfield I somehow expect an adventure. If you attempt to look at the overall positives of this move I think you will see it’ll pay off pretty well. If he performs well the next two months they should definitely make him a good offer to bring him back. Also anything that means less Gallo or Hicks is okay with me.

Fucking christ. Cashmans big, season-saving move is getting benintendo. I don’t even think he has an ops over .700 this year. Fucking useless penny pinching idiots. Soto & Castillo are free to go to other playoff contenders.

Benintendi will be extremely useful. Put him at the top of the lineup and let him get good pitches to hit. The Yanks need a table setter and he can do that if they slot him in the leadoff spot.
