There was a much better story with her original partner. I read that it may not be a happy homecoming between the two characters, but that just adds to David Leon’s (plays Joe Ashworth) return. I believe that Ibinabo Jack’s character, DC Jacqueline Williams, is not returning because she is on another job right now. I don’t think they were entirely set on a season 13 when 12 ended so that makes sense. I liked her character, but change is good. Kenny is still there and so is DC Edwards. Kenny has great chemistry with Vera in their scenes.

I love horses and had two as a kid. Seeing them on the streets, especially in the summer here, is a big no-go from my point of view. Let them live their lives somewhere upstate on a farm.

If time is not an object then drive. I enjoy flying and whatnot, but getting to see New England during this time of year by drive or by train is such a wonderful experience.

The destruction of America's public education system
UpperWestside replied to Captainant's topic in Cloak Room
If you have the means to do so and want your children to receive a better education get you and your family to a place not run by people that openly advocate how wonderful charter schools are (New York has a lot of these people as evidenced by the 1000 charter schools/child profit centers here) and find somewhere that doesn’t ban books as well. That we are in 2023 living with people who have more in common with the folks running the Salem Witch Trials than modern methods of effective education is astounding. The fighting you will encounter with these people is just not worth it. Take your family to a place where education matters. Not everyone obviously has the monetary means to do this, but if you do then go for it and make sure you either get your son or daughter in a public school or pay for a private school education if you have the means for that or prefer that. -
Expendables 4. Kinda the same thoughts as what I said about Nic Cage’s movie. The CGI was substandard. It looked like something from a movie produced by a small budget indie production company. I just wanted some time to relax though so that’s why I went. I had no thoughts that the movie would be an amazing accomplishment of cinema. Sometimes movies like this are perfectly fine to watch. Tony Jana’s character was well done and Jacob Scipio seems like he might have a promising future in action and suspense movies if he can be given a better script to work with. Again this movie isn’t horrible. It just is what it is. A lot of death and action which is good for people who enjoy movies like that.

John Fetterman - saving America with sweatshirts and Umbros
UpperWestside replied to Gil Bang's topic in Cloak Room
The decorum of that place is long gone. Fetterman is treating that place exactly as he should. These self-righteous jerks will do things that knowingly hurt the American people without batting an eyelash, but Hoo boy the second someone enters that place wearing an Everyman outfit, well by God, now the line has been crossed. I got to read Chuck Schumer attempting to defend Menendez. Meanwhile Senator Fetterman is doing what the rest of his colleagues should be doing. It’s embarrassing that he is out front doing the people’s work while the rest sit on the sideline collecting paychecks for doing absolutely nothing of note. -
Thank you for sharing all of this with us. You are a good person and though you are hurting on the inside just know that there are people here for you. Your reason for hurting, as stated eloquently by @Lidig8r, is unique to you. So many of us will listen to you anytime you want to talk. This is off subject, but you mentioned your grandfathers both served in the Pacific. I would love to hear any stories you have about them as I have read extensively about the Pacific War. If you do not wish to share I understand, but you can PM if you do. I have a friend whose grandfather served in New Guinea and The Philippines and I am getting him to obtain his grandfather’s records because he wants to take a trip over there to see the places his grandfather served at.

I am one of those people (I’ve detailed it here before on a thread in the Help Me With This section) and yeah it’s not cool when I see some of the things I read on this board that pertain directly or indirectly with autism.

Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread

Bob Menendez might actually be going to prison this time
UpperWestside replied to wildcat09's topic in Cloak Room
Menendez making this about race was just the Chef’s Kiss of his defiant idiocy. No Bob people don’t want you out because you’re Hispanic, they want you out because the people who voted for you aren’t members of the GQP and your guilt is pretty overwhelming. Take the hint and leave and hope a jury just sentences you to a couple of months of home confinement even though you deserve multiple years in prison. -

I believe so and he is doing terrific. -
I have never visited the city, but I have a friend that is raising her family there. I would say it is probably not the best idea to live in an area where a really big river could completely destroy your home, but they love it there. She is from Dallas and he is from Brooklyn. NYC will have the same reckoning with the ocean here at some point, but were I to guess they’ll probably put a giant sea wall around this place in order to save it if it comes to that.

It’s raining pretty steadily today so I decided to stay indoors and go to The Met to read and look at a few exhibits. I sit down to read and an older woman asks if her and her husband can sit down at the table. I told her of course and went back to reading. She is attempting to share some stories with her husband about the museum and he has zero interest as he is preoccupied looking at his phone. I felt bad for her so I asked her where they were from (Kansas) and they said this was their 5th or 6th time here in NYC. I made some small talk about having played some college football games in Kansas long ago (Very small school) and proceeded to help them find the exhibit they wanted to see. I showed the husband how to download the museum app and they were on their way. I told her that her son and grandchildren would be okay when they come to visit for the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. She was worried about the size of the crowd, but her son is determined to come because it was her dad’s dream to see the parade in person. Her son seems to be going full Clark Griswold on this, but good for him for giving his family the experience his grandfather never had. The main point here is that you can help someone’s day by just noticing what is going on around you. She made my day better by sharing part of her life that really matters to her. She said something to her husband as well while they were sitting down that was awesome and will stick with me. He says “What would you like to see?” She responds “I don’t care. I am just happy to see it with you.” That was just so cool to hear. How much better would our world be if folks genuinely felt that way about more people in their lives?

Having served Seinfeld before what stands out about him is that he is somewhat anti-social. He was polite and he and Colin Quinn always tipped exceedingly well (Just had to have Diet Coke Bottles on hand for Colin which wasn’t a big deal.) Colin was more gregarious and friendly, but one time I saw Jerry see a young man (who was still enlisted in the army but not in uniform) and he was an aspiring comedian. Just a random coincidence that Seinfeld was there on the same day as he and his buddy. Seinfeld notices how he is eating his breakfast and in the way out the door he did something he almost never did and he stopped and made some quips about his breakfast. It made that young fella’s day. Usually he gets his bicycle helmet on and heads straight out, but it was cool to see him stop and chat because usually it would just be Colin that would talk to folks.

John Fetterman - saving America with sweatshirts and Umbros
UpperWestside replied to Gil Bang's topic in Cloak Room
Dress however you want. I like Senator Fetterman. I wish he was in a better place with his health though. Not because of whether he can continue his work as a senator, but because he has a family and he seems like a really good guy that just wants to help folks out that need it. -
This was the part that stuck out to me the most as well. It is accurate and it is a reason I have advocated a position that every single member of our society should have access to a mental health professional at least twice a month. That does not mean you are getting a 1000 dollar an hour therapist, but you should be able to see someone. Even if you cannot pay we should be working together as a society to ensure that something like this is not only possible, but that we see it happen.

Wimberley 21-7. Lampasas gives it back on downs at around the Wimberley 40. Johnson beat his man on 3rd, but the ball was under thrown and outside. Lampasas again had a man open on 4th for a would-be TD, but the ball was overthrown. That drive should pretty much be ballgame.
-
Wimberley 14-7 at the half. Lampasas has made some miscues you see from young teams. Wimberley probably takes full control getting the ball to start the 2nd half. Great size for Wimberley, but not the most fleet-footed group. That shouldn’t hinder them getting out of Region IV. Rolling Stover out often works pretty well against the kinds of teams I would imagine they will see before the semis. You can just tell him to eat it and bowl over guys because of his size.
-
Ty Johnson is the fastest guy on the field tonight for either Lampasas or Wimberley. He got all 87 yards on that TD by running right past 6 guys. Wimberley should still win comfortably, but hard to believe that Johnson is a freshman. Jett Walker dropped what would have been a wide open TD after the first Wimberley TO. If Wimberley would hold onto the ball they’d already have 21.

I understand this. There are times you just need to get away from all out the outside noise of the world. Never a bad idea to stop, isolate and recharge your battery so to speak.

Norm would’ve gotten hit over the head with a beer mug and Cliff would’ve taken a barstool to the face. God help them if Sam, Frazier, Woody or Coach had chimed in. 😂

This is something I consider a very positive aspect of cities. Even if you are not someone that likes high-leverage social situations where you might have to converse with people you do not know, you can always just go and sit at an outdoor cafe and just people-watch. Personally this is something I enjoy doing because of my deep interest in the psychology of people in groups and how they behave. New York City gives me a wealth of info and in a way keeps me socially active when I otherwise may just stay home when I do not have to be at work. I would assume we probably have other people here that do the same thing in other major metropolitan areas around the US. A simple activity like this can have some far-reaching positive influence on your sense of self and how you feel.

I have stayed pretty clearly here that I do not watch much of the WNBA, but it does not mean I do not support their existence and growth because it is both good for young girls who have a dream of playing professionally at the highest level of the sport as well as being good for society overall. What your friend does she does of her own accord. Nobody gets to tell her how to think. To your question of if she has a daughter, as well as anyone else who has a daughter that perhaps has a dream of being a professional basketball player, I would say that passing on unwarranted vitriol and misogyny in some cases are unhelpful to the future of the sport. If you have nothing good to say it’s best to just say nothing and keep your thoughts to yourself in some situations. I look at this through the lens of people that trash other sports they do not like nor understand. I have said this before that people here where I live think people in Texas are crazy in the devotion they put into high school football. I personally enjoy the sport still from a distance (I try to watch Lampasas when I can. Perhaps tonight when they play Wimberley) and can appreciate why people like seeing it do well. The head coach of the largest high school in the state is from Lampasas, (And was a coach in Lampasas his first year out of Angelo State, which was my freshman year of HS) which I think is pretty cool. That’s a long way to say I find the negativity surrounding the WNBA to be excessive and to serve no purpose other than to make someone feel good about their own limited point of view. Would I rather watch the NBA? 100 times out of a 100. Does it mean I am going to go out of my way to be negative towards women that are competing at the peak of their sport? I will not and again I am glad the NBA and their players are so supportive of the league. It’s great to now see it at a point where turning a profit is finally within their grasp.
