The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread
UpperWestside replied to Horn Dog's topic in Cloak Room
Since the inevitable comparisons to the Nazis are going to be made here is where there is a line. Germany in the early 1930’s had a whole bunch of veterans from The Great War that felt they did not lose the war. They felt unfairly blamed for the war and the Versailles Treaty was still fresh on their minds. The Wehrmacht at that point was a skeleton of its Great War size, BUT, and this is key, they had grievances a mile long against France and Britain. You had the necessary ingredients for Hitler to be able to have a military that pledged allegiance to him, especially so because he had served in that war. Revenge was still on the minds of those soldiers and the children who had to hear for their entire life to that point that Germany needed to gain revenge against those countries and a centuries old scapegoat of the Jews. Our military is not suffering from a crisis in the confidence of itself or the values it is sworn to uphold. The United States military owes nothing to the con man, its idiot and racist defense secretary or any of the rest of them. We have a military built upon 250 years of weathering two wars with England, a Civil War, two world wars and now 80 years past that still being the dominant force in the world. It is built to weather morons like Trump. People routinely make fun of the Marines and their supposed lack of intellect. I’ll take that marine and his commanding officers and their vow to protect us. Our politicians will fail us continually like they are now, but our military I have zero qualms about trusting them. Push comes to shove they still have the big guns, tanks and planes and the orange con man has only his own plane and his cadre of secret service guards to try and overtake that. To that I say good luck. -

Do you believe our military doesn’t have contingency plans for when a president gets way out over their skis? Until I see it happen I will not think or believe that the United States military will choose to follow his orders over the Constitution. There are people there that take their oath seriously and care more about the country than following an orange man off a cliff. To be a real big boy dictator like his friend in Russia you have to have a military backing you up. Right now he’s still just a paper tiger in comparison. -

The response should have been “Yes I can tell you a precaution. Give your child up for adoption to a family that believes in science.” -
One of my friends took her teenage son to Japan and they are currently in the middle of their vacation and having a blast. Her son is on the spectrum and it looks like from the pictures I have seen that he is having an awesome time. I have posted that I work as a server right now (Until I'm done with school and whatnot) and the two coolest groups of tourists I ever get are from Brazil and Japan. The Japanese are just polite to a fault and anytime I mention to them that I would like to travel there they tell me what a great time I would have and that they would love for me to experience their country. I'm also not shocked at reading posts about how quiet it is there. When your population has kind of a national ethos of politeness and being nice it usually means they aren't yelling at the top of their lungs at you on every street corner. I have historical things I want to see in Japan as well as taking in the countryside in Hokkaido. Living several thousand miles closer to the country now makes it easier to visit than when I was in New York.

Common gooders it’s just the power trip. No human is infallible and we’re all susceptible to falling in love with being in control of things. Some folks just willingly throw their decency out the window. I’d rather keep my decency for others intact than jump onboard this moral train wreck of an administration.

He used to post on the deadspin website before all the original writers left en masse. He might post on Defector now, but not entirely sure. Chris definitely backs up his beliefs with action though and I believe that he was sent packing from Minnesota for the exact reason he stated.

Non-Texas weather. The all-encompassing thread
UpperWestside replied to Parliament's topic in Daily Texan
Folks I had to put on a light jacket recently when I was fishing after the sun went down and the wind kicked up. I swear the temperature must have dropped below 70 that night. T&P to everyone dealing with your own rough weather! 🙂 Sarcasm aside, I have dealt with brutally cold weather in my life and snow that didn't stop falling for 9 straight days and I still had to go to work. Snow looks beautiful if you live in the right places, but man it makes your daily routine so much harder to get through. If any of y'all ever want a break from really cold weather and want a free place to stay just pm me. I'll do the same for any of y'all that I have already done for one of my friends back in NYC. -

It’s money. You always default back to money in this situation. You get access to more it working with an authoritarian government than you do in a democracy. The American oligarchs can get billions more using num nuts than having an actual president and government that tells them to kick rocks and get out.

Well eventually there is a war. Probably not a civil war, but we’ll be at war again because people in the ultimate positions of power like this buffoon like to use their shiny toys to project even more power. Basically just expect a big war, probably with China because it’s the place we wanted to exploit for profit 80-90 years ago, but Chiang Kai-Shek and his wife were incompetent and fraudulent morons that wasted everything we gave him.

Looks like a small package going into such a wide gulf there. Work with what you got I guess.

My mom’s 70th birthday in 2019 I brought her up to New York for a week. On her birthday I took her to the Bronx Zoo in the morning and then that evening I took her to see her Yankees play the Rangers. She was happy just going to a game for her birthday, especially since the home state Rangers were the opponent. She always roots for Texas if they aren’t playing the Yankees. What I didn’t tell her is I made the charitable contribution that allows you to put a message up on the Jumbotron in the 5th inning for birthdays and anniversaries. I put her first and last name and then my younger brother’s name and mine at the end of the message. We were out in Section 203 in right field so she had a clear view when I said “Oh look it’s all the birthday messages they put up every game.” She looks up and hears her name over the PA and lets out the loudest scream I have ever heard from my mom. Everyone around her wished her a happy birthday and she said later on that this was the best birthday of her entire life. I had attempted to get video of it, but the phone I had at the time was brand new and I hit the wrong button and recorded none of her reaction. I actually think that is better because it’s seared into my memory how she reacted and it also reminded me that not every cool moment in life needs to have a picture or video to remember it.

This is what history will remember the most about this era in America. The absolute abandoning of being decent to each other. Seeing children doing this to each other is disgraceful. My mother always makes good points on this stuff and today she told me that if there is a God out there like you believe there is then he must really be disappointed in us for all of this hate. All I could say to her is that were I God I would absolutely be disappointed in how we treat one another.

You have to have a voice from someone that people will coalesce around. It would be cool if that is Buttigieg because is one of the smartest human beings on the planet. He has a higher amount of intellect in his pinky than this entire administration has combined. Thank God he’s an American. He’s what we need leading us, but instead we get grifters stealing everything including the kitchen sink.

"A psychopath on the spectrum." That was a compliment to Elmo. I don't know anyone on the spectrum that would like to be referred to as a psychopath. People like Elmo need to have their own classification on a separate chart. I do not, and I suspect I can speak for just about everyone else on it, want Elmo associated with us. He is not just a psychopath, but a racist and narcissistic one with a severe issue of making deadly wrong impulsive decisions. -
Reading a book for class right now. Really interesting book about the end of the Pacific War. The writer is a retired professor from Cal-Berkeley and a friend of one of my professors. If Robert Citino finds this book to be an important part of the history of the war then so do I. Got quite a bit of material from the Soviet archives that writers during the Cold War, and many years after that, never had access to.

No need to bother getting immigrants to do the jobs nobody wants to do if you have a permanent underclass. -

They aren’t doing a real good job of keeping it quiet. I hope Drip gets a 2nd high school. I used to compete against them in sports and academic events when they were a much smaller school in my youth. I can still recall in elementary school tying for the gold medal in UIL Spelling. Got a perfect paper and only one other person did the same. Even my principal missed six words. I can also still remember her name and that she beat me the next year when I misspelled trafficking. 😂 -

This is the point of it. You will either have parents going deep into debt to make up the difference at the schools or you’ll just confine the poor and their kids to schools where they learn nothing. That perpetuates the cycle of low income people continuing to not have an exit ramp through education, especially minorities. -

Even in Texas, especially in rural and solidly R suburban areas. Some of the best teachers I had growing up who really did care about educating students are still voting against their own interests because team first nonsense. One of the teachers that is irate about this is someone I grew up with. She’s got a bullhorn for a mouth (In charge of the debate team) and her child is on the spectrum. Combine a pissed off mother and teacher who has never been the quiet type and you’ve got someone who can at least put up some form of opposition to this garbage. They’ve already started in on the resulting loss of funds to the school district under these voucher plans. It would cut funding for her son’s teachers and other children just like him. That appears to be the red line for a lot of teachers. To be clear the voucher program issue is not just something school related only in Texas. New York is screwing over their public school students with charter schools and they have a Democratic governor. The blatant money grabs and the putting a price on your child is not limited to states like Texas.
