  1. I am usually pretty indifferent towards athletes that are showmen and don’t care. I’ve never been the old man yelling at clouds, especially since I find Deion’s three ring circus at Colorado entertaining. However, Djokovic was absolutely slaughtering Shelton start to finish and Novak was standing there watching celebrations the entire match. He watched the young fella throw tantrums throughout the match as well. It was embarrassing to watch just as a fan, much less anyone associated with him that had to watch the immaturity on display. He gave off a strong entitled douchebro vibe which, yes, is harsh to say, but that is how Shelton came across yesterday. So yes Novak was more than justified in making fun of him. I do not care much for Djokovic as Alcaraz is why I pay attention to men’s tennis. Shelton decided to poke the bear for two solid hours and he got owned throughput the match and with the post match celebration.
  2. https://nypost.com/2023/09/08/novak-djokovic-mocks-ben-shelton-after-us-open-semifinal-win/ I don’t blame him at all for doing that. Shelton deserved more than that, but that was really funny.
  3. Whole bunch of people who probably thought they’d make some good money on Sunday’s tickets are not real happy. Going to be a whole bunch of empty seats.
  4. Djokovic’s taunt after match point was hilarious. Shelton had that coming. He poked the bear and the bear apparently noticed.
  5. Once the game slowed down in the 4th it really favored the Germans. They were not going to be able to keep playing at the pace of the first three quarters. Schroeder really plays incredibly well in international ball. Gotta give him the lion’s share of the credit for the win today as he played a great game. The final should be really good against Serbia.
  6. That’ll do it. Schroeder controlled that game beautifully for the Germans. Edwards turnover was not a great decision near the end, obviously. Franz Wagner is ready to take his star turn in the NBA this year.
  7. Got it down to three now 106-103. Big shot by Edwards.
  8. The game has slowed considerably from the first three quarters. The US has got to string together some stops down the stretch and quit giving Schroeder room to operate.
  9. Serbians onto the final. Still a really good showing for Canada with a shot to get 3rd.
  10. I have had this conversation with a lot of folks who do not have college degrees and I think that we are at a point where many of the graybeards are leaving the workforce this opening up things for younger people to get in positions where they can make hiring decisions that are not tied to what college you graduated from, but whether or not you can actually do the job. I believe that by the end of this decade we will see a wholesale change in how companies hire and promote because the bottom line is still making money. If some guy that never set foot on a college campus has the ability to do the work and do it better than someone with a degree (And likely a 100k worth of debt hanging around their neck for no good reason), you take the person that will perform better. I am all for degrees becoming way less meaningful in the hiring process if not phased out altogether by as many companies as possible.
  11. This semifinal is going to bring some people out there that might not normally show up in order to see Shelton. Alcaraz has the biggest fanbase of any of the men (Coco has a bigger fanbase out there than anyone.), but Shelton can start to grow his own if he can at least get a set in his match.
  12. One of my good friends is in the Air Force and is stationed in Okinawa. He absolutely loves it there and has told me to come visit while he is there. His wife also is really enjoying the deployment as well. He works on one of the planes and there are only a few people who are specialists on the one he keeps running. I wish I could remember exactly which one, but it escapes my memory at the moment. Perhaps they will cross paths while he is there. I can give my friend a heads up if you want. He is a really good guy who does a lot of good for the people he is there with on base in Okinawa.
  13. I have a friend who is Finnish and still lives there with his wife and young child and I’ll bet he has never heard of him either.
  14. Schroeder went 4-26 and they still won because the rest of the team shot 24-44 and 8-18 from deep? I mean even Game Seven 2010 Kobe is shaking his head at this one. I did not get to see this game, but seeing that line makes even Westbrook blush. That’s just incredible that the Germans overcame that to win. Did no one go to him and suggest to, oh I don’t know, stop shooting?!?!
  15. Focus lost for four straight games. Pegula is all over the map with her baseline returns right now.
  16. 3-0 nine minutes into this one for them. They are focused.
  17. Coco and Pegula just started. Decided to come and watch some of their match over at Armstrong.
  18. Azarenka- Haddad Maia doubles team has been really fun to watch. Some very vocal Brazilians in attendance. Their match has been a battle that’s highly entertaining.
  19. Not on their level, but Artest was. He now has done some great work for mental health in his post playing career.
  20. I’ll take Serbia in that semifinal. Sounds like Luka went full Luka. I hope at some point in his career he can gather his emotions and keep himself under control.
  21. I agree with how he’ll play Shelton. Youthful impatience will not win the day. He’ll rally him to death. Alcaraz vs. Shelton would be a gigantic deal for the present and future of the sport, but I think we get the Wimbledon rematch instead.
  22. If I still drank this would not be the place to do it. I also concur on paying 22 for a drink. It’s just nuts to do that, but it hasn’t stopped people from getting it. I mean I am working the Open Club and we’re charging 60 for the Chef’s Table buffet. People just throw around money like it’s no big deal, which to a lot of the fans that come out here it is not.
  23. I would pay a week’s worth of money to see Sabalenka go and smash him upside the head with a racket. As for the drink, it is Goose, Chambord, Lemonade and the melon balls. I don’t drink anymore so I have no idea how it tastes. It’s popular though.
  24. This tournament has been great for him. I’m obviously glad to see his summer turn out well. This is really one of the most unlikely star turns I have seen in basketball.
  25. The last thing to come is always the mental side of the game. You can almost see it when she is playing how much she is thinking. Once that part clicks for Coco she is going to be the best women’s player in the world for a good long while. I hope the beginning of her dominance of the sport is with a title here in a few days.
