Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out

“Well, I don’t think I’ve ever thought much about ‘TotallyLegit’ as a poster. I think he’s okay, more or less, don’t I? Do I need another person on ignore? Well, he does seem to be aligning himself with a complete fucking garbage poster creating negative value on this site on a post by post basis …” -

Never watched it but heard all the buzz and whines while it was going on. Binged it a few years ago and I thought it was excellent. The last seasons are much better without all of the delays and such, I think. Would recommend. -
I’ve felt like the spread was too much against CSU and UTSA. Whoops. How interested do we think Sarkisian is in covering? He’s not an idiot, but 45 points is just a lot. I agree with @Fondren & Main in that the clock can only be drained so much if Texas is forcing a bunch of 3 and outs.

Week Four Preview: All Eyes On Oklahoma (and the Midwest)
closetojumping replied to texifornia's topic in Football
Schematically, and allegedly, OU is going to try to take his legs away and force them to win in the passing game. I guess I’m curious to see if the OU front 6/7 can actually do that against what looks like a really good Tennessee OL (who the hell knows if they’re worth a shit). I’m thinking OU is a little high on their own supply with this approach. The guy that had 3 sacks against Tulane is usually a ghost. Stutsman will need to be making tackles within 3 yards of the LOS for once. Terry got hurt against Tulane but it didn’t appear serious. Still, if he matters a lot for you, how good are you? I’ve been hesitant to say that Tennessee hasn’t played anybody out of respect for Doeren’s program at NCSU, but damn do they look pretty bad. I guess I expect one of two outcomes in this game. 1) Tennessee wins easily by double digits and dismantles OU’s dogshit OL while making a fool of Arnold with turnovers. 2) Tennessee is typical overrated SEC hype, huffing their own farts about how good they are, and a proud and storied opponent shows up at home and punches them squarely in their fat jowls. From there it’s a rock fight as two young QBs both face front 7 peril. -
Week Four Preview: All Eyes On Oklahoma (and the Midwest)
closetojumping replied to texifornia's topic in Football
Great slate of games this weekend. Realignment is starting to immediately deliver. Friday: -Illinois @ Nebraska: I am interested in seeing whether or not either team is actually good. Can Illinois put Raiola into a state of confusion and cause some turnovers? -SJSU @ Wazzou: This game is between two 3-0 teams. It's late, but for those of us having to attend multiple flag football games earlier in the evening, it's football. Also, Texas plays SJSU next year, for whatever that is worth. Saturday Morning: -NCSU @ Clemson: NCSU is getting 20.5 in Death Valley. They look like complete ass. I am surprised that spread isn't 40.5. -JMU @ North Carolina: I know UNC has a new QB with no experience, so this game might be close. I'll keep repeating this though - The UNC schedule is pudding soft. If this QB gets his bearings, they're pretty good and experienced around him. The TB is still a stud. This game is bigger than folks think. If UNC loses, they'll remain unranked and unnoticed. Win this game, they're 4-0 and then it goes like this: -@ Duke, -Pitt, -Ga Tech, -@ Virginia, -@ FSU, -Wake Forest, -@ BC, -NCSU. These dudes could honestly be 12-0 heading into the ACC title game and almost assuredly a playoff team irrespective of outcome. Saturday Afternoon: -Arkansas State @ Iowa State: I'm probably insane, but this seems like the kind of game that Matt Campbell could fuck up. Butch Jones has somehow put together a team that looks like they could win more than they lose. -USC @ Michigan: I will be unabashedly be cheering for Michigan in this spot, and I am also prepared to watch them get pummeled by 40 points. -Arkansas @ Auburn: I expected Auburn to be better this year, largely just due to roster improvement and more experience. Now? I have way less confidence in that notion. UAB made Taylen Green look subpar. Does Auburn have the dudes on defense to build on that? The fact that Jerrin Thompson is Auburn's leading tackler and was their spring game MVP tells me that, no, no Auburn doesn't have the dudes. -Ga Tech @ Louisville: Louisville is a big wild card in CFB this season. They play ND (in South Bend, next week), Miami, @ Clemson, and Pitt. Those are all teams that will factor into the CFP discussion. Pathetically, they represent one of the more formidable teams on ND's schedule. I think this is a good game to watch. -Arizona State @ Texas Tech: This looks like a fun game. Texas Tech overwhelmed UNT last week, buoyed by Chandler Morris throwing picks on 3 consecutive passes, but they've looked like dogshit besides that. -Rutgers @ Va Tech: Va Tech shit the bed against Vandy. What.The.Fuck. But I still think Va Tech is a contender in the ACC. Rutgers is being touted as a gritty, sneaky good Big 10 team. They've played Howard and Akron, so we know nothing, really. If Rutgers wins this one, they're 4-0 going to Lincoln. Saturday Night: -Miami @ USF: Miami is suddenly just a given in terms of being "back" and this has happened many times before. That is all pinned around their dominant win over Florida. Anyone who has now watched Florida knows that dominating that team might not be indicative of much. USF has sold so many tickets that they're removing the covers in the upper deck. I don't expect an upset, but I do want to see how Miami looks against another program with a pulse. -Baylor @ CU: Baylor looks like they can play defense this year. Maybe this game is better than it looked this summer. -

They would take Dallas Wilson in a heartbeat and he'd be a big candidate to play early. They're recruiting currently as if he's uncommitted. It is unlikely that adding him would lead to a committed player to look elsewhere. While Chris Jackson is working the communications with McCutcheon, Sarkisian and Banks aren't super involved. Sarkisian didn't want to lose Johnson. Clearly, they think Johnson gives them something that others do not. Johnson was swayed by the old "you'll be our featured receiver!" pitch that works to some personality types. I think Wilson and Johnson are lotto tickets, while McCutcheon is more of a safety plan. -
This has been mentioned some but it's pretty fucking cool that Texas is getting to work on future game installs while OU and Georgia can go get fucked. OU's typical bullshit of playing no one and then showing up with new and well-trained shit against Texas is not a thing this season.

Dari Nowkhah, a sooner and somehow also an SEC honk, was on Dusty and Danny this morning hammering the controversy angle. The others reacted against it, particularly because he was trying to align the situation with the ATM situation. What’s funny is that this guy was one of the media people running with “ranking due to name only” as a thing prior to this season. Now he’s talking up the idea of Manning throwing for 8 more touchdowns before Ewers returns and needing to stay on as the starter. Assholes like Mike Farrell soon to follow suit, no doubt.

Transfer Cycle 2024-2025 - HOOCHIE MOMMA!!

They’re playing Lefau a lot and he had some meaningful minutes against UTSA. Taking a LB with that many in the room wouldn’t be very productive. Why are you assuming that Guilbeau goes pro? Late round pick grades might be reason for various guys to come back, get paid, and try to boost their draft prospects. -

He’s “cleared” but that’s been true of other WRs on their roster who have suited out and not played. Anderson’s injury was supposedly a pretty serious groin strain. Those are tricky in terms of healing them up properly during a season. -

There appears to be several other issues causing Tarp to become an enemy of the aggie state. 1) There's a belief that Texags is getting fed information for their use that other writers and site are not. 2) The Elk or one of his minions has now called and berated Tarp/Karels on multiple instances due to how their expressing their opinions and disseminating data. Mack Brown didn't like how certain reporters reported things or asked questions and he'd have his SID team run folks to ground and intimidate them with regard to access and credentials. He once had a reporter (John Modani, I think?) brought to his office under the premise of some sort of scoop and then went fucking nuts on the guy. The Elk is apparently on that level. -

A lot of you guys are letting that miserable UF team do a lot of work for you in your thinking about ATM. UF may go 1-11 this year. They're favored in Starkville this weekend by like 5 points, so maybe they pull that off. Maybe they beat FSU? Either win would only be a direct result of the utter putridness both programs currently represent. This is a bad UF with a ton of injuries and many of the players have quit on the dead men walking coaching them. ATM going 8-4 after what we've seen is next level paranoia. I don't know who between BG, Arky, @MSU, @Auburn and @South Carolina beats them, but it will be a combination of those teams. ATM is a bad fucking team. They're going to find ways to lose. -

Nobody bats 1.000. It's hard to argue with how WR has been handled, particularly since Marion left. Thompson was at Texas long enough to collect substantial NIL, never learn the playbook, whine about playing time, and then get pushed into the portal. He then turns around after landing at OU to talk shit about Texas along with his mother. Then he fails to learn the playbook and plays little as a backup until this season, as the OU WR room continues to get worse. A starter early in 2024, he's now predictably injured and not contributing. -
Jackson Arnold has thrown an interception at a key moment in each of the last two games. He's had to deal with a lot of pressure and was able to escape and run his way out of more than the gaudy 9-sacks-through-3-games stat already indicates. If the Tennessee DL is really as good as advertised, this might actually get ugly. That considered, the heavily lauded James Pierce may want to show up for this game if he's going to live up to his preseason AA billing. Dude has an assisted tackle, one of those, and no solos and zero sacks. Ooofff.
-
They've actually had at least 2 holding calls against them out of the 18 penalties they've been levied. That might be more holding penalties than most seasons in the past for those cheaters. One guy to watch on the OU OL is RG Fibeche Nwaiwu (transfer from NT). The guy is a penalty machine and a source of a lot of the defensive pressures and sacks. The combo of him and the 3rd string C, Bates, is not favorable for the okies against UTenn. The SEC calls holding, man. You can stop having the Big 12 reffing nightmares, I promise.

At a speed approaching warp, posters on 247 (and I assume texags) are now complaining that The Elk played Weigman against Notre Dame at the program’s expense. “We sacrificed a win by playing favorites.” It shouldn’t be surprising, but son of a bitch if it isn’t. No one has won more games that they never played than Texas A&M. No one has retroactively won more games that they actually lost than Texas A&M. They are the best in the American sports world at that stuff. -

Someone in front of a computer should paste it, but Gerry mentioned the CB from Alabama as a long shot target in his write-up today. I believe, and feel free to fact check me here, that this is the first time a credible recruiting journalist has mentioned him as potentially in play for Texas. Things might get loud in the DB realm of recruiting. There’s also a lot of buzz that the CB commit from somewhere in FB/Sugarland is looking great as a senior. I’d be interested if the film junkies here like @Burt Macklin, @Fud, and many others have had a look and an opinion. -
I’m a relatively simple man, probably. Both bits entertain me, at least, each week.

Listening to XM 84 Full Ride this morning and Childers is attempting to stoke the fires of QB controversy in Austin. “What happens if Arch goes out there again this weekend and throws 5 TDs?” Neuheisel handled it really well, pushed back, and lauded everyone involved. Said he doesn’t care if Ewers comes out and throws a couple of picks early against Georgia, they’ll all stick their knitting and fans will follow suit. Overall it was about 20 minutes of more or less just touting the hell out of both players, Sarkisian and the program, so I’m not complaining. That said, it’s just an indicator of where the national media and asshats like Bohls, Chip Brown, Ketchum/Anwar, and Liucci are dying to take things. A big statistical game this weekend, which I think is more likely than not, from Manning will send the QB controversy narrative into the stratosphere. We probably all need to gear the fuck up.
-
One stat I like is that OU has allowed 3 sacks in each of the first 3 games. What does that mean against Tennessee? I’m expecting 6+.
-
As bad as Kent State is this season, they are not an FCS team. Play like one? Sure. In a conference as one? No.

You really are a buffoon. This response is typical of a middle class real estate cokehead in LA, I guess. Full Ride is heard all over, even if it hurts your weak sensitivities. -
This guy is great and the SEC Shorts team has actually stepped up their game plenty. Better than nothing.

This kind of shit is why anyone relying on PFF scoring for college players to determine their opinions about them needs their head checked. What a fucking joke of a system.

Just one guy's opinion, but there are three genius-level OCs in college football right now. Sarkisian, Riley, and Kiffin. Maybe Kinne gets there in my head soon or someone wants to argue for Heupel or DeBoer or Kelly/Day. Fine. Point is, if someone can do something akin to what Texas did against that defense this year, it's Riley or Kiffen, and they ain't playing Ole Miss. One thing we know Riley will do also, is if he gets a lead, he won't stop. If that guy can score 70 in the Big House, he will do it. I think Sarkisian could have had Texas put up something like that but strategically chose to take the sure W with limited to zero injuries and leave Ann Arbor as the slayers of the defending champs without a bunch of drama. If USC just fucking rolls Michigan, all we will immediately hear is how overrated Texas is because Michigan is a 6-6 team. I'd be rooting for Michigan anyways against USC, but that added element has me really hoping for a tough, tight game.
