Is that what you think begging the question means?

Apparently Jackson Arnold isn't looking any better at Auburn than he did at OU and Hugh Freeze has stayed on a paranoid, panicked coke bender since practices started. Deuce Knight looks good and they might be compelled to start him on 8/29 on the road at Baylor as a true freshman. If that is all true, I guess I hope for Arnold's sake that he's already been paid in full. If there's a program out there that is the likeliest to start ripping their players off on the NIL promises, besides USC who has already been doing it, it would be Auburn.

The guy who shows up to tell us he doesn't like preseason polls is claiming that we're taking things too seriously around here? Okay then. I've never understood the complaint about preseason polls. We all know they're not deterministic and haven't been for a long time but especially now. They're a sign that the season is around the corner. They're usually the highest ranking ATM gets all season. They often lead to interesting bulletin board discussions. What's not to like? Do you bitch about too much pussy, money, or texmex? Why would you treat CFB any differently? Wrong British movie.

Shoutout to the best lunch deal for sushi that I've come across. Akiko's in Meyerland Plaza has several Maki combos that include 5 pieces of nigiri or sashimi or both plus a roll and a soup or salad, ranging between $13.95 and $19.50. The food and service are usually great. I am somewhat fascinated that they're able to price so much quality food that low these days.

Well, I hope he’s not nailing any boys, but that’s probably just phrasing. Regarding USC, I can’t remember which thread it was a while back but we were discussing them for this year. I’ve heard several evaluators, Luginbill and Jeff Schwartz, independently talk about the lack of talent on USC’s roster this year. Each said they failed to see double digit future NFL picks there right now. Each segment reminded me of guys commenting on Texas from roughly 2010 to 2022.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen

Looks like OU went in with something crazy. Guys on Sooners Illustrated who seem to know some things believe that Nagy decided that he's a "must-have" and couldn't concede him to Texas. I know I would have liked to have gotten him for multiple reasons, same as many others here, but this is one situation where it is both a certainty that OU is spending money they don't really have, so that's going to impact their roster and recruiting elsewhere, and they're also dramatically overpaying for what the player is really worth. I'd say good luck to the guy, but if he's going to OU, fuck him. And fuck OU too. Another thing I think this does is make Texas more willing to flip Henderson later. I'm sure they'll keep looking for a good answer that doesn't involve doing something crazy for Henderson, but I do think it opens up some room to get stupid if they wanted to with the flip. -
Dummy. Good lord.

Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)

Okay, here's the defensive version of the offensive write-up already posted. I can now confirm that Tarp is either one of the greatest gaslighters in sports writing history, or he's so far in the tank about this ATM team because he's a lifelong redass aggie that he's hopeless. I assume it is the latter. The article is unintentionally hilarious. Highlights: -He claims that the Edge spots are now more talented and deeper than last year. Understand, last year saw Shemar Stewart and Nick Scourton starting there for them. In the words of the Virgin Mary, "come again?" He goes on to claim that it is so deep, a true freshman might not get any snaps! Dayon Hayes, a mediocrity at prior stops, is apparently killing it for The Elk. -He admits that the offense is ahead of the defense thus far, largely due to the offense being awesome. It's almost never a good thing to have an offense ahead of a defense early in camp. This isn't a Lane Kiffin or Sarkisian offensive complexity they're dealing with on the campus in BCS, either. -While the defense is absolutely and admittedly going to be smaller than last year, The Elk is suddenly really valuing speed and agility over size, even with the front 3/4. There are two ironies to this guy taking that position. The first is that these dimwits have been tweeking out about the SEC being a "Line of Scrimmage League" for over a decade. It's been hammered to us from the media while Texas was entering the SEC with clowns all over attempting to knock Texas "not ready for our LOS league here, fellas." Right. The second irony is that he claims they're upgrading defensive speed while also admitting that Taurean York and their entire secondary are returning. Sweet Christ. It's delicious. -Julian Humphrey, who was projected by all to take over for Dezz Ricks opposite Will Lee, is now running behind Ricks at CB. Ricks was a savior that folks pointed to last winter and then he continued to suck when he got to campus. They go out and pick up Humphrey and do the same shit with him, and get credit for it! Now Ricks is "someone to look out for at Corner" again. I think I follow him here. What he means is that Ricks is going to be hollering "look out!" to the Safeties throughout each game. -HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!- 469 replies

Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)

You ever follow something/read something long enough to where you become concerned that they might actually be correct and you've been wrong this whole time? Well, credit to Tarp, he's made me question myself on some level. Either he's just completely fucking delusional about the skill talent for ATM's offense or I am. "Either I'm off my nut, or he is ..." Spoilered below is an article about what to expect from ATM's offense based one everything he's seen and heard since camp opened. Highlights: -Marcel Reed is going to be the closest thing to a triple option QB since John Blake was running shit at OU. -They're loaded at WR, which will enable them to go downfield a ton. Ignore the article from this weekend about Reed being an incompetent downfield passer, or that in this same article Tarp talks inadvertently about shortening the field and focusing laterally, because those WRs are going to stretch this motherfucker! -Starting WRs appear to be Concepcion, Craver, and Ashton Bethel-Roman. Bussey will be mostly a screen and jet sweep guy. There are some freshman WRs, not the 5 star, the other ones, who will also be in the two deep. Concepcion continues to be talked about as a deep threat. I am starting to think that none of these people have ever watched the guy play. He averaged less than 9 yard a catch last year and less than 12 as a freshman. Who is this guy a deep threat to, relatively speaking? The aggie secondary? -The OL is discussed as a force, with Fatheree being back to his old self from 3 seasons ago. Moving the starting LT to Center, should it happen, is of no mind to be paid. -EJ Smith is now moving really well. He's a fourth stringer who has never done shit at Stanford or ATM, but look out. -He mentions the TEs because he apparently has to do so.- 469 replies

Another day above ground is great, but it's even better when I read articles like the one spoilered below and realize how happy I am to have always hated the sooners. This article attempts tout Jaren Kanak as some sort of revelation in the TE room since they gave up on him as a LB after last season. Highlights: -He likes to play dirty. Kendal Daniels brags on Kanak's ability to take cheap shots long after the whistle. The money quote from this genius? "You've got to play a little dirty at times." Boy, truer sooner words have never been spoken. Daniels may have started off as a Cowboy, but he's fully embraced his inner sooner clown. -Kanak is small for a TE. 6'2", 233, but he and his mouthbreathing postion coach, Ol'Joe Jon Finley, are talking that up as "leverage" in taking on larder defenders. Uh huh. -This guy is wathing film, guys. He's in there, watching and studying, watching and studying. He also was known for that at LB. In fact, it's one of two things he was known for at LB - the other thing he was known was getting into games and constantly being out of position, often running in the opposite direction of the play. -Totally unrelated and not mentioned in this article but might be something to watch - multiple notes from media viewing in the first week of workouts included Kanak running the wrong routes on various plays at TE. -This is the kind of shit we'd have to cling to when the program was bottoming out under Chuckles - a position switched 5th string TE is "really starting to come on due to athleticism" in a room full of absolute trash. The OU TE room this year is going to look like Bill Bedenbough's ass pressed firmly against a mirror.- 745 replies

Am I the only one assuming that the sportswriters nationally are going to see it different than the coaches? I feel like I've seen numerous "my votes" or "my poll" from writers on various sites or Twitter lately that go out of their way to put someone at the top not named Texas. I wish I could recall it now, but someone last week said they'd voted Texas 6th because "Texas has a lot to prove" and they also had Clemson at #1.

Regarding QB, there's also something the mods, specifically Kurelic, are being vague about, something associated to Sayin isn't tough enough. They keep talking about the other guy "giving you more physically in the backfield". I assume that's a toughness and not an athleticism slight at Sayin. Maybe I'm off there, though. Regarding this depth that they keep talking about on defense "at every level", a lot of it is completely unproven. They return Styles, Downs, and the Human Pass Interference Penalty at CB (I don't remember the dude's multi-syllabic name but it starts with an "I"). The DTs played a little, but didn't start, and there is zero depth here. The DEs, the same, except for Atkinson at UNC and he's apparently underwhelmed and may not even start. The LBs outside of Styles were backups, with Pierce? (from somewhere around DFW, I think) being a guy emerging. Same for the other Safety spot and Sanchez threatening the second CB role as a true freshman. So, they are for sure talented. They're also far less experienced on the defensive end than the Texas defensive side. Of course, they don't play each other, but it's a point of measurement/comparison for me. Offensively, they are also less experienced than the UT offense, which is somewhat absurd. They have Tate, JJ Smith, Klare (@ Purdue), the Rice LT (they fully expected him to start and if he doesn't, it isn't because someone else is a budding star), one other OL and Donaldson (@ WVU). The TBs may or may not be underwhelming, but they're being pushed by Bo Jackson, who is apparently looking like a potential star. The biggest mismatch going into this game is the Texas defensive front against the OSU OL and whoever the new QB is. Yes, there are mismatches, some serious, elsewhere in each team's favor. That given, the Texas defensive front isn't just deep, it's hugely talented. Future NFL high round picks and picks are going to be rotating and fresh. OSU is struggling to figure out their OL mix and they're damned sure not gelling yet. Neuheisel keeps saying that both coaches are going to be "playing away from their QBs" in this game due to inexperience and the fact that each team is likely fielding another top 5 national defense to open. I agree with this view. I plan on writing a thread looking at things more deeply as we get closer to the game (no mudhole), but this is what I'm thinking and taking in from their experts and insiders. I never took Kienholz seriously as a threat to Sayin, but Day and crew sound legitimately concerned about Sayin opening up against Texas.- 5401 replies

-Right now, OU has 3 OTs in concussion protocol, including both starters. Venables has the entire team basically going full speed at each other all practice, every practice. -Eli Bowen is unlikely to start the season on the depth chart. -At least 4 WRs are not currently able to practice. -OU posters are now full on positing that they may, in fact, have the best defense in the entire country.- 745 replies

We’re being gaslit about Jaggy McJaggerson. It’s pretty obvious if you are actually paying attention and not just biased towards hearing what you want to hear. This guy is allegedly super fast, right? So the dude is catching the ball downfield, but somehow not scoring? Right. They can’t claim a TD because others will debunk that who were there. But “downfield” could be 5 yards and then exaggerated for all of his fanbois.- 5401 replies

Texas gave the proposal the old “yeah, sure, we’d be open to that” while trying to get the early exit deal done. Shortly thereafter, it became clear that that wouldn’t help any part of the early exit deal. As well, Tech was politicking with the state legislature to work their way into the PUF. They trying to align a bunch of Baylor and UH people to get themselves in with the “let’s stick it to the bastards” notion. Once all that was known and shut down, it’s since become Texas’ desire to give Tech the UH treatment in almost all sports. Is this a serious post? You think removing pettiness makes CFB more fun? Dark, bitter pettiness towards our enemies is a big part of the enjoyment we derive from college sports.

OU scrimmage update spoilered below. Highlights: -A bunch of guys sat out due to injury, including multiple starters on both sides of the ball. -Much to the chagrin of the OU homer mods and their posters, the offense sucked and Mateer didn’t look great. -Shockingly, one of the FCS guys they’re counting on at WR has hand issues. Couldn’t catch a cold according to not just this report but some guys who attended from their board. -We’ve finally reached the inevitable moment where Kanak is now the starting TE. They’re going to spin it as a good thing because he’s allegedly “uber athletic” even if we’ve never seen that from him. The reality is that they have an abomination of a TE room and they’re going to be longing for Bauer Sharp. -The OL is still poo. -
