  1. It’s some sort of anomaly in the realm of social physics. How can the aggies always be, at the same time, so predictable and also so stunning. We know it’s coming, and it is still amazing. They immediately abandoned the whole notion of correcting their culture issues when it became clear that going for mediocre character guys wasn’t going to yield 1+1=3 results. More like 1+1=1.25 results. So fuck that, let’s load up on as many shitheads and big time busts as we can, and convince ourselves that we, and we aggies alone, can fix each and every one of them. Farmers fight!! Holy shit. The College Station culture of adulation ahead of achievement is a poison for athletes arriving there who already believe their own hype. We know how this works all too well. It’s been a problem many times in many sports at Texas. Thank goodness it isn’t one now, really with any program. All anyone has to do is look east by an hour and half to be reminded of how cancerous that kind of shit can be.
  2. Texas has played QBs that can move around effectively, as much so as Leavitt. Problem is that none of them were very good QBs at the time. Warren’s best plays were on the move at Michigan. Van Buren moved around well but it was his first game. The guy at ATM moved around well too, he’s just not very good. The Arkansas QB was mobile. Texas has faced quickness in the pocket this year. You and Craig Christ rolling in for the big game, huh?
  3. You guys just can’t help yourselves. Just a constant tumbledown contest of humorless pedantry.
  4. That 4th down play, USF simply had no interest in winning. Pathetic.
  5. The stupid fucking mobile posting. Better not fat finger a delete below a quoted post or you are fucked. I like this TE. I don’t know how he grades on the blocking side, but he has good hands. He’s not the fastest guy, but neither is Gunnar Helm.
  6. A lot of people are taking the jokes about Livingston seriously. He’s like found money if he becomes productive. That’s the same for Dubose and Butler. They’ve never prevented Texas from taking other guys. I like making PL jokes and will take ribbing if he works out. It would be kind of awesome for one of these three guys to become a real contributor. Conversely, Texas needs Ffrench, Lockett and Wingo to work out. Texas went after those guys at the expense of other options and they all cost a lot of money.
  7. I’d have liked to have had him, but for a big guy, he is kind of made of glass. High dollar gamble for Ohio State. Get me commissioner Sankey on the phone. We’re surrendering our position in the Peach Bowl.
  8. Closers, CBs, QBs, and Kickers are going to show up some days and actively attempt to lose games. It sucks when it is happening to your team. Here’s hoping for better things to come in the remainder of this season.
  9. Golden might make more by coming back and building on what he’s doing than going into the draft. The replacement cost for him is significant. I’m hoping they retain him and that’s that at WR. Williams has been working out with the team already, albeit non-contact. He was looking good ahead of the injury. If you just go through the exercise of asking yourself if you believe that Texas is going to head into next season short: a seasoned WR, a solid three deep at DT, a solid three deep at RB. I don’t. History says they’ll be fine. FWIW, it sounds like they feel good about where things go from here in this transfer cycle.
  10. He’s born and raised a SCar fan. They’re also taking care of him.
  11. Jermichael Finley got like his 4th girl pregnant, so Mack decided to have Sally intervene. Sounds like GILF porn, but Brown was in the room as well. Sally started to encourage the use of condoms. Jermichael allegedly interrupted with “Ms Brown, I know I’m supposed to use condoms and I do. The problem is, they don’t fit and keep snapping. “ Okay then.
  12. Sure, but everyone in the country wants that guy. He’ll be one of the first non-QB multimillion $$ high school recruits ever.
  13. No one’s in love with him and he’ll be like the 4th DT in the class if they want him for a higher body count. The TE to watch is the one out of Mater Dei and Texas has a great shot. He should be reclassifying.
  14. Finley and Lott are bigger priorities than Bishop at WR. There are bigger priorities OOS as well. Lott could be a CB, which would change some things. The IOL in Spring, Turntine and Kotoa are the must-gets as of now on OL. They’ll take 5-6 if they can land 3 OTs. They could have a TB commit now if they’d wanted it, but it’s not clear if they’re going to take a small scat back in this cycle. There’s a DL out of Richardson, I think, who will be a big priority. Baryman out of Louisiana is probably a Texas, ATM, LSU dogfight. The LB mentioned in The Stampede is probably too small. Georgia assumes they’ll land Atkinson but Texas might really be interested in winning that one.
  15. ISU has 5 wins against Texas. 3 of those were against the worst teams for Texas in the last 26 years. The other 2 were against Tom Herman and the second loss for him sealed the deal on getting him fired. Hold the memories high in your heart all you want, but they’re more a reflection of the futility of Texas football in the Late Mack/Chuckles/Herman decade than anything else. Regarding last season, did you ever really think ISU was going to win that game? I didn’t. Texas methodically took care of business on the road against an inferior opponent and got out of town quickly. Campbell is a choker. A coelenterate of the college football landscape. The minute he has to deal with actual expectations, he shits himself and does his level best to drag his team down with him. That’s what you witnessed in Jerryworld. It wasn’t some herculean performance by ASU. It was mostly Iowa State not jihading a game as they would often do for Texas and Oklahoma. As to the coaching premise of Arizona State or Iowa State versus Clemson, ummm, I’m taking the guy and program who have won 2 national titles and played for several others in the last decade. No one thinks ASU is a shit team, but they’re one of the 3 worst in the playoff. They wouldn’t have beaten Tennessee or Clemson. The talent gap is massive even with those teams.
  16. I felt like it was good Texas that went vanilla when they shouldn’t have. The injuries didn’t help. I watched him multiple times this year. I’m not arguing that he’s not a good college back who will play in the NFL. I’m just saying that he has one elite trait, surviving first contact. That’s not misaligned with what you’re calling “balance”. I’d love to have him on UT’s roster and getting 25-50% with our depletion of backs this year. He and Tyson are the only two guys I’d want on the Texas roster.
  17. He’s a fun back to watch, but he’ll be the focus of the defense. He’s not an elite back by any stretch in any form other than surviving first contact. ASU is going to try to get him around the edge and away from the trenches. I expect Hill and Lefau to have big days. Texas will have to take ASU seriously and I assume they will. That said, you’re overrating ASU due to conference bias. Sure, they whipped ISU’s ass, but that’s a team of Matt Campbell 3 star try-hards. Clemson has far better talent across the board on both sides of the ball versus ASU. The QB, TB, TE, 2 OTs, and 3 WRs will all eventually be drafted. 3 LBs, Woods, and Parker will all eventually be drafted on defense. Meanwhile, ASU has a freshman QB, Skattebo and a bunch of guys that couldn’t crack Texas’ or USC’s two deep on both sides of the ball. If regular Texas shows up, this is a cover. If good Texas shows up, this is a beatdown.
  18. Mike Norvell is hollowing Florida State out from the inside. I thought he was a solid coach. This move to portal dependency is as ugly as his management of his coaching staff.
  19. Well, yeah. @6th Street is Kirk Bohls. That’s a given. @satyanash is widely suspected of being Anwar Richardson’s handle.
  20. “Jack Boyette” is a new favorite. Holy shit. He throws out the “you’re not a coach!” trope. He talks about how close the ATM program is to Texas earnestly. It’s awesome. I assume he’s typing while wearing a whistle and Bike coach shorts. The dude who is already revising the beating they took to a hypothetical win has to be a troll. He can’t be real. I mean, I hope he is, but no way.
  21. Hold up. Woods is already in the portal? If he does enter, he’s the difference maker that they were keeping their powder dry for, I would assume. That would make a great defense next year dominant, given who is coming back already.
  22. Oh I remember the game. I don’t remember the mudhole thread, but I write a lot and don’t save any of it, although I guess I should. Maybe in the next one, I’ll predict a Sarkisian Slumber for the 3rd quarter and a late recovery. Of course, it might be for Oregon or Ohio State and I, unfortunately, don’t have a lot of confidence in either matchup against what our secondary looked like in the second half last night.
  23. I only write them if I feel like it and that’s usually when people are handwringing about an opponent. I don’t remember the KSU thread that you’ve now brought up a few times here as some bizarre attempt to mock me. Something in it got you worked up, I guess. For someone whose posts seem to frame things as them being “in” on the jokes, it’s odd that you fail to realize that the whole point of the mudhole posts isn’t to take them or the game too seriously. The entire nature of them is to be somewhat absurd. That said, part of the fun over the years has been watching the humorless simpletons show up to those threads, take them seriously, and chastise me for it. I’ve gotten negged by clowns on these threads before, especially if I post one and Texas loses. I get blamed for the loss and then people shriek and I laugh out loud. There’s still some humor for me with stuff like your post, even when Texas wins though.
  24. I’m seeing that the line has moved from -11 to -13.5 over the past few days. Obviously moving it to -14 or -14.5 would be kind of crazy, but this has reminded me a lot of the OU game week this past season. Lots of talking heads taking Clemson with no real reason behind that except they think Ewers is going to choke at home and that Klubnik will own Texas because it’s a “homecoming”. Right.
  25. I was listening to an interview by Finebaum with John Talty. Talty covered Bama for years and just published a book with Armen Ketayan called “The Price” about staying competitive in today’s CFB landscape. These guys live in a fucking bubble. They all seem to think that the rest of us just believe that Alabama has all of this money. What idiots outside of their mediocre state could possibly believe this? People in Mississippi and Louisiana, maybe? We’ve said it from the start - Bama was going to be one of the poors in the new era and fuck them for being the terrible fucking cheaters they’ve always been. Glory in this. Revel in their futility. It’s coming. Byrne’s pleading comes because Bama’s roster is under attack and they’re running out of money rapidly to defend it. They overpaid for their class they just signed. Apparently they went way over budget. Then they started getting roster pressure they weren’t ready for in the first place. The 5 star freshman CB that started the portal process was the straw that broke the camel’s back. They’ve promised him more than they have to keep him and cannot afford any further attrition without a cash infusion. So, desperation ensues and Byrne humiliates them by publicly panhandling. Talty and Finebaum both sounded somewhat despondent discussing it and it warmed my heart. I’m interested in seeing how Bama ranks in this next class. They’re no longer getting any kind of discount, allegedly, and they’re very cash poor. You add that to them declining in status due to on-field performance and it’s a potent mix. Bama fans and the pundits seem to think that top 5 classes at Bama are a God given right. This class is going to test that premise.
