If you're looking for the local high society and a very tightly packed collection of the local hot female scene of every age, get a drink at Hall's Chophouse. It's in the middle of everything and they usually have someone playing something for the room. I think it's a great vibe and great people watching. The food is excellent, but ignore that and go to a non-steakhouse after giving yourself an hour or two there in the bar area.
The donut place that lost their young female owner to a terrible car crash was really good when we there last summer. It's right in the middle of things too.
People poopoo Lewis, but that place was as good as just about any in Texas and their daily specials looked pretty fucking delicious. Sides were great. Minimal line at lunch. I think it's worth it if you're in the area and missing the meat sweats.
I didn't read the whole thread, but Fort Sumter is worth a two hour excursion. You don't have to commit much time, you get a nice boat ride of the harbor, and you get to see where the hot war started for the Civil War.
Everything else in this thread has already been scattered, smothered and covered, so here's hoping you guys have yourself a time.

The simple way to sort this, if they really like Russell (and there is growing evidence that they do), is to just tell Lacey next weekend or whenever he's in Austin next is that they're taking 2 QBs in this cycle. He goes back to Bama and decommits, then Texas takes Russell. Moore decommits this summer and commits to Texas shortly thereafter. Bing bang boom.

I get that that is probably safer, but did they also change the touchback rules? What is the incentive to return, or kick a returnable ball?
Touchbacks now move to the 30 yard line. It starts to become punitive to make those happen.
23 minutes ago, ImissWallyPryor said:Let me know if/when this is adopted by CFB. I watch very, very little NFL these days.
It will be adopted next year. Kirby Smart is part of one of the committees collaborating on this and he said that if it goes well this year in the NFL, there is more or less uniform agreement to adopt it in the NCAA. This kind of return set-up incents more gameplay while also making the play itself safer. It therefore gives younger players more experience on meaningful snaps, which almost all college coaches want.
I see no downside as a fan. I find the current KO set-up to be boring as hell.

I don't fully comprehend why the QB situation with Lacy is even a thing. Is it just a territory pissing match with Auburn and Bama as they muddy the waters with NIL? Is he not fully sold on *gasp* having to sit more than 1 season? Is he even fully convinced he wants to come here?
How about the opposite of all of that? What if someone emerges that causes Texas to rethink it's options?

Some things to think about for this cycle:
-The ranking of this class will only be limited by how many high school players Sarkisian wishes to take. If they take 27+, I think they'll be ranked in the top 3. Less than that, top 5.
-They're getting outreach from players and their camps at multiple positions. NIL rep helps, but so does putting guys into the league and running a style of play that guys find attractive. In a stacked in-state class at WR, they're getting national interest and could take basically whoever they want. OL looks similar.
-Notice how they're working OVs for more players than they have scholarships available at numerous positions. You're seeing it at OL, Edge, DT, TE and DB. I would not be surprised to see some more Nate Kibbling happening this cycle at some of these spots. You want in? We need your commitment now or we can't take it. We have a bunch of guys coming in next week for the same position if we don't have your commitment. Obviously that isn't going to happen to the truest 5 stars, but it could happen at a very, very high level of talent in various spots.
-Notice how they're not working on back-ups at a few spots. That indicates, to me, that they know who they're getting and the NIL element is already sorted. There isn't a backup plan for RB1, MLB1, OLB1.
-Some of what Texas does at the HS level is going to be informed by this next transfer cycle. They're expecting to lose some guys at the 3rd string level even they don't want to do so. They have to no matter what. If they lose 4 OL instead of 1-2, that means 5-6 OL instead of 4-5. Similarly at LB or DT. Positions that they'd generally do better developing than grabbing from the portal will play a bigger role in the class.
-The QB thing is kind of weird and might get weirder.
-If there is more than another 1-2 commits ahead of June, I'd be kind of stunned.

Are Purdue and Duke considered bad landing spots? They're P5 bowl teams. Who is losing a backup QB that lands at a blue blood in a starting role? Not many.

Man, I miss Pancho's buffet for lunch. Loved their chile rellenos and those sour cream enchiladas. Raise the flag!
My roommates and I used to go to the one on or near Oltorf and just punish that buffet. We did it regularly and there'd always be a pot of $15-$30 (depending upon how many people went) for whoever had to sprint to the bathroom first. Rarely would the pot roll over to the next visit. It was uncanny. Apparently still worth it, however, because we kept going, and then sprinting.

Jerryworld is nice but I absolutely hate getting in and out of there and Arlington sucks shit. I have no interest in their fake Live whatever chain restaurant gimmick. What pisses me off is all the money they keep pumping into the Cotton Bowl for one fucking game. They should have just passed the tax and built Jerryworld there. Not only OU-Texas but Dallas Cowboys at the state fair. I lived in Dallas at the time and voted for it, when it failed the city started to lose its luster for me when deciding whether to stay there for work or move to a smaller market. Fuck Jerry Jones either way.
Hahahahaha. What the fuck? I'm always kind of stunned when I see your posts and there are so many words. It must take forever with the use of only one hand, since the other one appears to be clutching your pearls at all times.

Maybe he meant Lefau. He is from Hawaii, not California, but has been mentioned as one of our best young linebackers we have.
No, the guy he linked is the recruit I was referring. I'll bother learning how to say and spell his name if Texas lands him.
Folks are high on Lefau though, no doubt. I don't know if anyone is comparing him to former longhorn greats the way they are with the Cali recruit, but things look promising.

I’m bummed to see Burrell on that list of names. Thought he might be someone who would come in and develop well and that might be the first time I’ve seen his named typed since his signing day.
Y’all should read it differently than this. Burrell looks good and could be a starter down the line. There is too much talent ahead of him for that to be the case at Texas.
Another thing I remembered is that the LB out of California that they are on, as far as traditional LBing,, is All American good.

but if he doesn't put in the hard work and sacrifice.. (weight is just too much). so long
There may be a real health issue going on that, if resolved, help the player and team a ton.

I'm a little less optimistic on the DL. I would be surprised if Broughton can consistently hold up on the inside and our depth is limited. And I think with Ford gone, we could have trouble getting gashed on inside runs. We would be even more thin if we lost all three of Bryant, Mitchell, and Swanson. However, they are not very likely to contribute and I would assume that whatever we get in the portal would be an upgrade.
Bryant is running second team, so I’m doubting he’s leaving. He could be starting elsewhere in the SEC is the thought though.

I've had some friends at the practices who have all of the credibility any of us would want in observers. These couldn't be more high on the UT supply if it were being pumped into them intravenously. They're usually eeyores.
-No one is worried about DT. They have SEC level talent and depth. They're going to do some things differently than what they were able to ask of Sweat. "Georgia didn't replace Jordan Davis with another Jordan Davis" and such.
-Mitchell isn't accounted for as a serious impact on the depth chart and is a prime transfer candidate. There's a lot going on with this one.
-They've got to lose 4 or 5 guys and there isn't a bunch of fat left on the roster. Some guys are going to leave that folks would rather not lose, but they're running 3rd string due to the extensive depth.
-Burrell, Bryant, Mitchell, one of the NBs, maybe a WR, Cojoe, Kirkland, Agbo, Swanson, Red - there's talent there that could be starting somewhere else. Not saying any particular one of those guys is gone, just saying that somebody has to be before August.
-Chatman may have passed Cojoe at RT and Baker is working out there too.
-If a quality DL enters the portal and they're not already earmarked somewhere, Texas is interested.

I'm not sure I put a lot of stock into the assessment that Vitello "looks like" an eventual flameout. He sure isn't flaming out yet.
Again, Texas fans have a distorted sense of what is possible, what is reasonable, and where we currently stand.
It’s completely subjective with Vitello. All of this is. We’re talking about a bunch of guys who have not gotten it done yet, Pierce included.
As to what Texas fans think is possible, I certainly don’t think the last job search and how it was handled is instructive to what is possible now. This is a program that should be a top 5 program. It’s a top 3 historically. Rather than lower expectations, I’d rather see the AD go get whoever they need to get and get back to occasionally winning titles. That’s not asking too much and that coach would have all of the NIL support he needed.
I’m all for Pierce figuring it out, but going to 2 and a Q in Omaha and just missing it in the super is not figuring it out. This is Texas and the expectations should continue to be sky high in this sport.

Look, I usually don’t argue this stuff anymore because we are dealing in hypotheticals.
Walter didn’t play for a title, that is factually incorrect. Not to mention it took him 14 years at Wake to get to Omaha. Y’all would have had his head on a stake.
Whether or not you believe Bakich is better is opinion, and if you feel that way that’s your prerogative like I said above. The fact that he spent 10 years in a conference that doesn’t give a shit about baseball and couldn’t win it, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but I do think he is a good manager. I also think he is where he wants to be and there is something to be said about being in a situation where you are comfortable. He has spent his entire career on the east coast.
But to answer your question yes, my answer is no. For starters, even if you wanted Bakich you would have to be willing to offer a number that one, Texas wouldn’t pay and two, that he hasn’t accomplished enough to command.
If you are going to money whip youth, you get Vitello, if not, you are just starting over to start over and give yourself some false sense of being closer to a national title because you have something fresh.
1) There is no reason to believe that Texas wouldn’t pay what it takes to get Bakich. Clemson isn’t awash in cash.
2) Michigan isn’t on the east coast. What in the fuck are you talking about?
3) I take it you know jack shit about Wake Forest historically as a program. You’ve referenced what Walter has done there as a straight line comparison to Texas, which is a laughable argument that has to be derived out of ignorance.
4) Vitello is a terrible choice. That’s actually a guy that looks like an eventual flameout as his teams continue to fail to get the title.

"Texas was without EDGE Colton Vasek for a bit during practice. Vasek was suited out though spent time with the training staff when the team moved into the live team periods. I won't speculate on what the reason was, but he was absent for a period or two."
Will Vasek ever be healthy?
He’s made of glass and on a bullet train to Bustville, which is truly shocking to Westlake honks everywhere.

Walter and Bakich are not the same at all.
Walter has been at WF for 14 years and just made his 1st CWS. What’s the evidence that he can get it done here? No one is saying we have to get an Augie but we shouldn’t be getting someone who’s accomplished very little over a long period.
Bakich is more accomplished and has done it at a tough spot to perform in baseball. His results at Clemson so far show me he could do the job here.Walter just played for the title and might do the same again this season. He’s built a program that appears to be getting better daily.
4 hours ago, chase25 said:No, the reason I never take these conversations seriously is because the names floated around either aren’t realistic or are guys with worse resumes than Pierce
Bakich has 1 CWS appearance in 14 full seasons with 0 conference titles.
Walter has 1 CWS appearance in 27 full seasons with 4 conference titles (3 at George Washington).
The only thing they have on Pierce is youth and Walter has a cool pitching lab.
What have Bakich and Walter done that makes you believe they are going scorched earth on college baseball with the same resources Pierce has had?
So you can’t actually answer the basic question. Or, you just don’t want to admit how in the tank you are with Pierce.
The idea that Bakich wouldn’t be an immediate upgrade is laughable, especially when trying to cite his results without any context. The guy recently almost won a national title at Michigan for Christ’s sake.
4 hours ago, hobbes2702 said:Walter has 2 losing seasons in the last 5 years. He has a career win % of 557. It’s all just wishcasting bullshit. His results have spoken for themselves.
This is a weak take when considering his immediate recent results.
Look, people were discussing fantastical options and a dreary, lazy option. I offered two alternatives to those who would actually take the job and be an upgrade over Pierce.

So what have Tom Walter and Erik Bakich done to pull the trigger on canning Pierce
You’re asking the wrong question. If you could have either one of those guys and shitcan Pierce, would you? If your answer is “no”, cool, cherish those 3 CWS appearances into your twilight years.
If the criteria is that someone has to have already won a national title or otherwise Texas is better off with the HS coach running things now, there’s not a conversation that can be had between us.

Corbin, Skip Johnson, O’Sullivan. GTFO with that shit. One is old and has absurd advantages that can’t be replicated. One is a lazy choice due to nostalgia. One isn’t leaving his current station.
Go get Tom Walter or Eric Bakich with a moneywhip and call it a day. Bakich is still young at 46. That dude would win at Texas in ways that the program should be stacking wins and titles.
