Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
closetojumping replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
I have never worn a jersey to a sporting event, as a fan, in my life. Surely I did not actually make a bet about wearing a jersey if McJaggerson rips off a good season. Right? I’m seeing it mentioned enough now that I’m paranoid I had some sort of delusional break and blindly agreed to stuff while mentally unconscious. That said, I will be wearing a “Grumpy” shirt as part of a themed trio at Magic Kingdom tomorrow, so I guess public humiliation via clothing is not impossible for me. I don’t think my wife posts here surreptitiously, though. -

This recruitment could be fascinating. Both schools passed on approaching ATM’s offer. He’s not supposed to be even talking to other schools as part of how they allegedly structure those moneywhip deals. If I were betting on outcomes here, my money would be on ATM going bonkers on him right now and him coming out with a “shutting it down” tweet within the next 48 hours. If not, awesome. After Texas flips Henderson, LSU can always go nuts with a counter offer to Edwards as well. -

OU Football 2025 - League Average & Loving It
closetojumping replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
I’ve rolled my eyes about the Mateer stuff and do not want it to become a thing. As much as I despise OU and want them to lose every game forever into the future, I’ve endured a full 11 months of OU staff and media honks pleading their case about the injuries last year, ands Venables getting credit for living through it, that I’d rather them not get another asterisk season. They have their hopes ridiculously high and I want to see that crushed through normal shit happening, including injuries and on the field freak shit, fine. However, your post does intrigue me. I can get behind the notion of this guy being the next Art Schlichter/Pete Rose type and completely buttfucking and corrupting the OU program from the inside.- 870 replies

While I mostly agree with your post, I don’t want the narrative to become that I hate Jaggy. He’s a longhorn, in any event. Say what now? -
None of us were saying that in the posts you’re responding to, you willfully oblivious fucktard. I was mocking the actual obvious, that your fucking coach is claiming that other schools are talking shit about Tech and Lubbock in ways that only that drunk’s low educated audience would believe. Never mind that I’ve actually been involved in this shit and I know you’re patently incorrect about UT football paying players via the bag game, because I don’t need you to believe me. All anyone needs to do is look at what Texas is doing now versus being forced to watch the cheaters run off with the 5 stars in the OL and DL for over a decade and they’ll know “oh, yeah, Texas must have recently started paying players.” It’s pretty obvious and well known that Texas was sitting on its hands while the SEC and Ohio State raided the state once ATM opened the gates. I don’t really expect you to get that, slorch, because you’re equal parts blindly biased and room temperature IQ, but most folks will. My oldest daughter, against my input, applied to Tech in the beginning of her application process. She had great grades and scores but was a worrier. I am not making this up - she got an acceptance response from Tech in less than 7 days from sending the app in. I assume anyone in the top 50% of their high school class that attends there must feel like a fucking genius from day one as they walk around and see morons bumping their heads against building walls as they wear their underwear on the outside of their shorts. Don’t equivocate about the bag game and Texas. If Texas was participating, the hue and cry coming from the cheaters would be as loud as it is now about mean ol’Texas. Now, UT basketball? … sure.

Do you actually believe that this is something other schools are dumb enough to tell recruits? You cite 2025 as a reminder of the times and then you appear to be willfully injecting typical McGuire bullshit directly into your system. You post like a fucking dunce. Evil Tech Fearing Opposing Coach: “Oh there are no roads in Lubbock. It’s all caves and mud and shit. “ Dumber Than a Sack of Hammers Recruit: “Yikes!!” <hangs up, dials Joey Fucking A McGuire> Dumber Than a Sack of Hammers Recruit: ”Oh noes, I can’t come to Lubbock, coach, you guys lack first world infrastructure!” Joey McDUI: ”Don’t you go believin’ them lying sips and bears, boy. Lubbock not only has roads and plumbing, we also got a damned Jason’s Deli and a Chili’s. You tell them other sonsabitches you were born to watch titles being won on tv while you sit in your dorm during a dust storm in By Gawd Lubbock, Texas!!!” Oh yeah, that tracks for sure.

Another thing regarding OL at Texas is that Baker ended up costing Texas, and its NIL supporters, far more than originally projected. Everyone knew that was dead money for at least one year. Sounds like he’s doing well, so maybe that’s it. But that experience immediately created pressure around the OL and dead money, from the money. So things got tight in the last cycle and this cycle. The revshare stuff may have loosened some of that pressure, especially now that there’s better clarity on acceptable NIL.- 7534 replies

The Off Campus #14 is South Carolina. So today they announce that and then they have Patrick DiMarco on to talk about the Gamecocks for 2025. He’s a former SCar Fullback and played for a while in the NFL. The juxtaposition of listening to this guy after listening to Chip Brown this morning is stark. This dude couldn’t have honked more for South Carolina if he’d have been given a bullhorn. They couldn’t get him to say an objectively negative thing about their outlook for this season. The closest he came was saying that they might lose a couple in the middle of games 6-10. Give me a little of that from our asshats every now and then. Good lord. -

They were blindsided by ATM going ridiculously rich for Krempin. They are paying an IOL OT money in part because Texas was steering guys away from visiting ATM for June and it ticked them off. It’s kind of amusing in some form, but not in the context of needing that body. Ojo straight up Perrillouxing them is a different lesson someone needs to learn. If a comparable guy wants to commit to you but you’re taking the in-state guy instead, best make sure he isn’t a flake. Flood shot himself in the dick on the Lee recruitment. They’re allegedly resolute on getting another quality guy in this class, Lee or otherwise. It reads like a well-intended article not trying to take shots at Texas while praising the program. That said, I doubt anyone ever wins 6 titles in 13 seasons ever again. So, the premise is silly in general, but it’s certainly drawn traffic. -

Here's a Tarp article assessing the LB room. The long and short of this one is that they don't a single complete LB. They have 4 guys that they think can play and then 3 other guys who have never played, one RS Freshman and two true Freshmen. The 4th LB, Jordan Lockhart, ran amok against McNeese State last year and has otherwise done nothing. Depth is a problem at LB for ATM this season. Without the same talent on the DL, injury risk increases and more plays will need to be made. -

I get it. I have friends that know the guy well and they're not fans in even the vaguest since. They view him as a stain on the entire profession. He's a throwback sports journalist, which isn't a good thing. He's allegedly a gambling drunk who can be paid to write shitty things about any entity, but he's talkative and jovial if you aren't a threat and potentially will be buying the drinks. -

I will think about it more as that weekend approaches, so maybe I change my opinion by game time, but right now, I'm assuming Clemson is going to beat LSU like a borrowed mule. I have no faith in Kelly, or LSU for that matter, in an opener like this. They've done nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt. LSU is rebuilding their entire OL against what will be a top 5 national front in Clemson. Nussmeier has gathered more hype for someone who's done little to merit it than anyone since Spencer Rattler. "Did you see that 10 yard dig!?! What a throw!! Legend!!" They've frankensteined their defense with hopeful starting additions at DT, Edge, Safety and CB. I know Harold Perkins is hell on wheels against Arkansas, but I have a hard time assuming he's going to be a force in this game. Weeks is awesome, but he's one guy. McKinley might be on the verge of becoming a stud, we'll see. They've got pieces, but it's all been sewn together rather quickly if it's to be an asset against an explosive offense in Game One. Kreul reminds me of highly touted recruits coming out of some of the well-moneyed football factories in Texas. They look great on film, but how much more room do they have to develop? If he's maxed out as a freshman, he can still be an asset. Unless he has more room to grow, however, it seems like his upside is 5 sacks a season in overwhelming passing situations. I'd take that, but I don't have to have it. Nagy deciding that OU absolutely had to have him just illustrates the gap in the two programs right now. Also, something I hadn't really thought through until now is that Nagy is going to cram this guy down Venables' throat. We think he's a DPR on the Texas roster. Nagy is telling everyone he's a 5 star. Anyone think that that loudmouth is going to be fine watching his prized evaluation sit on the sidelines until 3rd down all season? Seems unlikely. "He'll be fine against the run. Get him out there. We're not paying him a million dollars this year to only be out there for 20 snaps a game." As a freshman. -

Case in point, Ohio State was actually desperate for a seasoned OL from the portal. Their best choice was a starting OT from Rice. He's now iffy on being the starter after they penciled him in at RT before he arrived on campus. It's not like the guy he's battling with has drawn rave reviews, either. They kicked the tires, thinking about depth risk, but Oregon was willing to pay for a starter, which Texas didn't think it needed. Most of the OL entering the portal want starter assurances. That position in particular is as much about PT as money in the portal. Frankly, OL are still the most stagnant people on a given roster. Good ones stay put, bad ones will stay put if you keep paying them, and mostly only the hungry ones not starting are leaving to start. Compare that to DT where starting isn't the priority for a lot of guys. It's almost kind of weird. Even WRs, the biggest prima donnas in the portal, have joined UT's roster and others merely for playing assurances in their system for good money. -

Full Ride on XM 84 this morning had Childers and Roy Philpott because Neuheisel was doing work for CBS in prep for the season. Apparently CBS will have a preview show on this weekend, so mental note there for anyone who needs another fix from Brian Jones, Neuheisel and the other guys they'll have on there chopping it up. Anyway, the first two hours of the show involved a ton of Texas discussion. They had resident shithead Chip Brown on and he immediately proceeds to tell them that Texas has no business being ranked #1. He runs down Manning as inexperienced and then recounts personnel losses. Philpott: "Who would you have #1?" Brown: "Clemson" Philpott: "Clemson? Texas just beat them in a game that wasn't really close for most of the game. Why Clemson?" Brown: "They return everybody and they've all gotten better. Klubnik is a stud and is the best QB in the country. Dabo is a championship coach. I just don't think Texas is ready." How in the world is that shitty motherfucker still allowed credentials to this program? He's another one of these buffoons that are constantly negative about the program they cover. This is a guy who has written hit pieces designed to harm the program as a means, allegedly, of paying off gambling debt. He's never said an informed thing that any other writer or talking head couldn't have said better when talking to a national audience. It's despicable. The rest of their discussions that meandered in and out of Texas for 2025 were all positive. Hell, Joe Cook was on Off Campus yesterday and he did a fine job and sounded relatively informed. It's not that hard to just not be a fuck up.- 7534 replies

Burton confirmed this morning what we’ve discussed here about OU raising the ante on Kreul to a level Texas found uninteresting. He’s providing the view from inside the staff’s perspective, so I always like to see confirmation. He also said they’re keeping their powder dry for a bigger fish at Edge if they get the opening they’re hoping for during the season. My view is they should just wait for LSU to make a fool of itself as usual in Week 1 and then make the big offer to Henderson. -
Hester and EJ were previewing their #15 team yesterday on Off Campus on XM84. That team? Florida, same as the AP but they construct their list ahead of time and independently. #15 just happened to match. Anyway, it's a fun build-up to the season each day when they unveil the next team and then have an insider on to discuss them. Their UF insider was, of course, Chris Doering. He came on talking up the juggernaut that he expects Florida to be this season. Fine. Late in the conversation, they ask him, in the early stretch of @LSU, @Miami, bye, Texas, @Texas A&M, which game is circled for him that UF has to win. In the least surprising thing I read or saw yesterday, Doering picked Florida to beat Texas and then went on to say that Texas is susceptible to more losses than people realize. He said the same shit last year and never outright owned it. He and the other idiots are going to predict Texas failing until Texas one day does it, and then they can honk with one another about how they saw it coming the whole way.
