  1. One of Michigan Insider's mods/beat guys posted his thoughts on where things sit for each position and I've spoilered it below. A few thoughts ahead of that: -Orji is clearly expected to be the main guy at QB against Fresno State -Michigan has at least 8 TE/h-back guys on their roster and these guys love every one of them -There is a general lack of faith in Donovan Edwards being an every down back and they may need help from a true freshman -These homers think LB "could be even better!" than last year, which featured 3 LBs drafted following the season -They follow their LB silliness up with the same proclomation regarding CB/NB, where they lost an early pick from last year's team
  2. Here's some classic shit on 247. Tom Loy, who is a longtime recruiting guy nationally and for ND, starts a thread with this post below: Tom LoySTAFF Posted on Aug 25th, 5:43 PM, V I P, User Since 227 months ago, User Post Count: 114539 Aug 25th, 5:43 PMVIP 227 months 114539 Absolutely fired up to make the trip for Mike Elko's first game as a head coach at Texas A&M. Wife and I are making the trip from Nashville. Would love to link up with some A&M fans if there are any recommended tailgates to it. Staying in Austin then making the drive over early Saturday morning. Anything I should know, places to hit, please let me know here or shoot me a PM. Thanks! _____ That gets followed by a number of posts where various posters tell him that Austin is a shithole and full of hoboes and scary gay people. Then this post happens: WesleyTXAg Posted on Aug 25th, 7:34 PM, V I P, User Since 34 months ago, User Post Count: 1539 Aug 25th, 7:34 PMVIP 34 months 1539 North Gate will have all the go to bars, it’s the bar area next to campus. If you’re looking for the college food experience, Gumby’s pizza (pizza rolls), fuegos, and Laynes. Dixie Chicken is cool, but not some Mecca of bars some make it out to be. Be sure to go to midnight yell, but don’t take any videos of yell leaders and post it on social media. It’s ptsd for us. Tailgate wise I can’t personally help you out there yet, however you’ll have a great shot of walking through them telling them who you with and that you’re looking to report on the game day experience and 9 times out of 10 you’ll get in to whatever tailgate you want. Happy you’ll be there it’s a great environment for fans of CFB as well as families (north gate is not family friendly) ____ So the big recs on the thread are a shitty pizza place, a shitty texmex joint and a national chicken tender chain. Then he recommends Midnight Yell, but please don't tell anyone else about it. And that's the best post on the thread.
  3. Your institution let a Heisman trophy winner panhandle underneath a fucking bridge as a homeless person once upon a time. Texas always and always will take care of its own. Whatever VY's demons, he's getting a ton of help to deal with them and he's well-paid as an ambassador of the program, to boot. I'm not sure bagging on Vince Young is directionally productive for anyone on this site, much less a sooner.
  4. TSRH regarding Matt Rhule evaluations. Apparently, there's pretty good consensus that this guy's frame shows plenty of room for growth. I'm guessing Gerry's been by to actually see him in person and will offer better insights on that than anyone else could.
  5. I posted this on the "Tell Me" thread as well but here's a photo that Nick Scourton put on Insta, apparently bragging. Is it a good thing when the 3rd fastest player on your team might be a back-up DE? I knew ATM was going to be slow this year, but damn.
  6. So Nick Scourton posted this on his Insta and some poster on Aggie 247 c & p'd it over there. The third fastest player on their team is apparently a backup defensive end. I know they're a slow team this year, but, well, wow. One of my favorite riffs ever. They apparently just told Rickles to cut it loose and this is him just winging it. That guy was a treasure.
  7. Don't forget that P4 match-up against the mighty UH Cougars. Cue the Georgia/Realignment excuse in 3 . 2 . 1 ...
  8. Neon Deion is part of why I fell in love with college football as a preteen. Two thirds of the earth is covered by water and Deion covered the rest. Witnessing the emergence of FSU during that period was awesome. When I was in HS in the 90’s, they were absolutely an “it” school and Deion played a key role in that. Watching him more than back up all of his shit talking at FSU and the NFL only added to the mystique. He only had 14 picks at FSU because, eventually, offensive game plans just said “fuck it, do not throw to that side of the field”. The only other time I recall feeling like that was a thing was watching Woodson at Michigan. It wasn’t that you could get picked, it was that the entire game was about to go on tilt because they were taking you to the house.
  9. I've been feeling pretty good about saying that FSU was headed for a downfall to like 8-4 all offseason. I attributed them falling back a ways due to DJU and a quietly brutal schedule. Then I click on here and you guys are putting them around .500 or less. Things happen fast. If they do have some kind of epic collapse, it wouldn't surprise me if that does put more than just Charles in play.
  10. Since this is a lazy prediction thread with no prize money, I guess anyone throwing their picks out there through Thursday afternoon is fine. Here's the tally as best as I could count it right now: Alabama - 15 Arizona - 1 Boise State - 4 Central Florida - 1 Clemson - 8 Florida State - 7 Fresno State - 1 Georgia - 18 Iowa - 2 Kansas State - 9 Liberty - 4 LSU - 4 Memphis - 6 Miami - 8 Miami (OH) - 1 Michigan - 10 Missouri - 5 North Carolina State - 5 Notre Dame - 13 Ohio State - 17 Ole Miss - 10 Oklahoma - 1 Oklahoma State - 6 Oregon - 17 Penn State - 13 Tennessee - 1 Texas - 19 Texas San Antonio - 1 Texas Tech - 1 Utah - 15 Virginia Tech - 2 31 programs out of 135 possible were selected at least once.
  11. It's obviously the Spyder idiot. You can tell by the insane amount of posts he makes when he shows up. He's just shitting all over the boards right now in every thread worth reading. "Oh, cool, new activity in that thread ..." ... click ... scrolll ... "You've chosen to ignore content by Funk Doctor Spock." ...
  12. 1) TCU plays ACC member Stanford late on Friday night 2) When did SMU get lumped into the Left Behinders? 3) SMU didn't get left behind, as they're also now in the ACC 4) UH is a Left Behinder that you do not mention. They host UNLV at 6pm on Saturday night. UNLV is a decent team and may well beat the shit out of UH. Fritz is an excellent coach though, so maybe UH shows us something.
  13. It's just fatkid being a pedant. The term isn't meant to accurately describe the play via math, and it never was. It's a colloquialism.
  14. That is a stout fucking defense right there. They have 3 All Americans at critical spots, an experience-laden all senior front 4, an NFL bound SR LB, and 7 senior starters. I know people are handwringing about their OL, but the overwhelming match-up in this game favoring one side is ND's front 7 against the aggie OL.
  15. I'm curious what our resident sooners think, but the general offseason tone from the OU guys I listen to or read is basically just uncertainty. I think most of that pivots around the OL and Arnold. Almost every sooner appears to really believe that their defense is going to be elite. I don't really understand that logic. The safeties and Stutsman, sure. The CBs are a mess, the DL looks like a mess, and the other backers aren't scaring anyone. It seems more about "Trust Brent Venables on defense" and I can understand a certain logic to that. Venables is an interesting person to follow. The sooners basically packed his bags for him when he left Norman the first time. I didn't think he was particularly the problem as it was the landscape changing and Stoops + Venables needing to catch up. He then goes to Clemson and is a key player during their run. As part of that, he was able to build round a constant stream of highly regarded DTs and DEs that flowed into Clemson and out to the NFL. Does he have that at OU, yet? And if he doesn't, is there still merit to "trust Brent Venables on defense"? I feel like the answer to the first question is "no", although he's clearly added some dudes. I won't know the answer to question 2 until watching them this season.
  16. This should be a big deal. This should continue to keep Texas at the forefront in the NIL space and its capabilities with it also.
  17. OU released their depth chart last night and @Machinator posted the tweet of it here for folks. The Sooners Illustrated guys posted an article about their thoughts on it, and I have spoilered that below. If you've followed OU at all this offseason, it won't surprise you that they're going to be playing a fuckton of true freshmen and redshirt freshmen this year. They lost a ton from last year, their portal work has been so-so, the first two classes under Venables look largely like dogshit, and they've had injury issues. 17 true freshmen on a depth chart isn't something a normal person would laud for their program, but these are sooners and they're not going to allow themselves to see things this way. There are more "Or" notations on this thing than we saw in the Mack Brown Era, which is saying something. Jayden Jackson, who OU bought on a bid far and away higher than what Texas or Ohio State were willing to do, has been named a starter at DT. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing for OU, but I do know that Venables knows good front 7 personnel when he sees it. He has interesting comments about Jackson quoted in the article and some are interpreting the comments as a shot across the bough for David Stone. Stone came in more highly regarded, but also as a giant shit talker. If Stone and Arnold don't hit, Venables will be a robust 0-fer on 5 stars over his first 3 years. The DE from last year's class barely garners a 3rd string mention on the DC. This is after he was breathlessly touted ahead of last season as someone who could be a big disruptor as a true freshman and a future star. Similarly, Jaren Kanak barely registers on the DC as a 3rd stringer at LB. For those who don't follow his journey, he was a highly touted recruit committed to Clemson when Venables took the OU job. Venables, in a show of dramatic honor, publicly announced that he wouldn't be taking any commitments from Clemson in his first class. Kanak, however, could not handle the thought of life without Brent, and he insisted on coming to OU, threatening to walk-on if BV wouldn't give him a scholarship. Eventually, the noble Venables was practically forced to take the guy, much to Dabo's chagrin. Afterwards, Kanak was immediately touted as an early impact player for BV's new gig. Since then, the guy has shown up repeatedly out of position and mostly just running from point to point in the wrong direction at the speed of Lehman. Notice a theme? Other items of note: -Piecemealing the OL together, looks like 4 probable starters are transfers and no one has ever played together -Brenen Thompson is being touted as an answer at WR and "really tough for his size". Nic Anderson has a nagging injury issue that they're not being transparent about, hence the touting of Thompson. -Damonic Williams, who OU went nuts on NIL for, is having trouble beating out 6th year mediocrity Da'Jon Terry at NG.
  18. Spoilered below is this week's reminder that even the clearest eyed aggie redasses still can't control themselves when it comes to building unrealistic expectations. Tarp gives us his top 6 reasons for how Texas A&M makes the college football playoff. Click, clack motherfuckers. This guy is less than a week removed from new reprimands from the communistic media handlers inside of the AD for saying more negative shit about the team and roster, and here he is, touting the notion of making the playoffs with a straight face. Highlights for me include the parts where calls both the Notre Dame game and the Texas game "must-wins", where he references Auburn as a generally lesser opponent, and where he touts their roster depth. The commenters all eat this article up, too.
  19. He is just your run of the mill, dyed in the wool diploma mill aggie. That dumbass actually posted his real life profile once, replete with the info of having a real job as an insurance salesman in Katy.
  20. I remember exactly where I was the day it was announced that Tillman Holloway was going from DT to OL. It felt like the ground shook beneath my feet. Who doesn’t recall, albeit bathed with sepia-toned nostalgia, what they were doing the day Will Goodloe was moved to work on the OL?
  21. So, you didn’t watch them play Louisville, Florida or Georgia last year, huh? Now, the personnel is different this year as I think the backup transferred, but there’s probably no way the current backup is any better or ready. I think they have a highly rated young guy but he probably needs some time. It’s glorious either way because DJU is fun in that he’s genuinely mediocre and he forces the play caller to restructure everything and not in a good way. I like Kanell on Dusty & Danny, whether he’s whining about FSU or not. It should be a good listen. I’ve never really figured out why various people can’t stand him.
