Agree 100%. If you couldn't tell by the wording, I was just having some fun. I think it's okay to poke fun at our own program. I don't take myself or UT sports overly seriously. It's entertainment-- it's supposed to be fun.
But I disagree with this 100%. The capability for self-reflection is one of the prime differentiators between Longhorns, and ags. It's a tremendous weakness for them, that they take themselves far too seriously, and are completely incapable of self-reflection.
Self reflection turns into self loathing and is a constant, tedious issue on this board, this discussion included. We’re all well aware of the shortcomings of Texas. This isn’t that thread. An assistant coach sleeping with a trainer is a horrible equivocation for numerous coaches at ATM who have run the spectrum from damned near slave trading to killing players to being fired for flagrantly racist shit to IRS scams to punching an opposing aging coach with MS in the aftermath of a game. It’s absurd.
You also cited a player issue that one time. I didn’t even mention players in the litany of shit that runs through ATM. That’s a non sequitur and a reach.
I was going for a fun recounting, on the ATM thread, of the many terrible hires they’ve had without having to see it lawyered up with the “well, ackshually, we also did blah blah blah”.

What would a package look like to move back into the first?
We’ll see. If they draft Sweat at 42, and Meco says this was our guy all along and we picked additional assets, it’s a good trade with a potential be great if the 2025 Vikings pick is top 35.
You’re weaving some excellent fan fiction around the Texans drafting Sweat at 42.

We've had our own issues, like an assistant coach who got involved with a chubby trainer, Case McCoy's video escapades, and of course Ol Freak Nasty.
But at least none of them were murderers.
We don’t always have to go through self-reflection. What you posted were reaches by comparison to damn near anything mentioned about ATM.

It’s not about personal brand or effective reach like typical endorsements. It’s straight up roster management done by collectives in a massive pay for play and inducement scheme.
Just because we are the best at following the letter and rules of the law/compliance doesn’t mean the core of what NIL is supposed to be isn’t trampled on.
also must suck to be poor.
Spoken like a true religious zealot.
Guys getting paid to play has been around since Bud Wilkinson. Saban was the best at it at Bama in a closed game with 10-ish participants. All of it was illegal and most teams chose to standby and play stupid.
Now guys and girls are legally being paid and you’re bitching about it because original intent is somewhat astray here. Entire rosters of players are being paid, whereas if it was only about NIL for autographs and tv commercials, only the elite players would get a thing, and it’s a problem for you. It’s bizarre.
My outlook is to be happy for the thousands of families whose lives are changing, by people giving happily, and the changing of the landscape from the competitive perspective.
So, yeah, Saban is fundamentally wrong. Not in that NIL led to pay to play, but that it shouldn’t have been this way from the beginning. That’s how he always handled it in the first place. Not only is he a lying, whining hypocrite, but he’s also a craven cynic. Fuck him.

Taaffe was a smart and instinctive guy that really helped give us a solid floor last year but if he’s still starting next year and not just depth that’s not great.
I can tell you for a fact that the Texas staff thinks Taafe is vital to the success of the program in this next cycle. I am not saying that with any amount of pleasure, but I am saying it with certainty.
Does that mean he’s starting? I don’t think so. It could, but more likely, it means what we’ve already witnessed - heavy rotations at safety that cause anyone paying attention and unrelated to Blake Gideon to roll their eyes every fucking game.

https://footballscoop.com/news/blaise-taylor-arrested-on-first-degree-murder-charge
Blaise Taylor, was arrested Thursday night in Utah on a grand jury indictment with two charges of first-degree murder.
Taylor, 27, was wanted for allegedly poisoning his girlfriend, Jade Benning, and her unborn child. Nashville Police state Benning and her unborn child died as a result of the poisoning.
Taylor worked for the Tennessee Titans organization several years including during the 2022 season.
The son of longtime FBS running backs coach Trooper Taylor, Blaise Taylor had agreed to join Texas A&M staff earlier this month. Taylor played at Arkansas State from 2014-17, then spent 2018-19 as a defensive graduate assistant at Duke. He joined the Titans' scouting department in 2019.Sounds like a miserable piece of shit.
It really is crazy to witness over and over, irrespective of head coach or AD, how cultures at programs will magnetize certain types. ATM seems to draw in, and crave for, terrible humans within their football organization.
Sumlin had the OL coach and others who did the embarrassing shit at the women’s clinic, Sumlin was a hollow boozehound, and I’m sure there were other ne’er do wells on his staffs.
Maybe Sherman was okay, I can’t remember but I respected that guy.
Franchione was running a secret newsletter program for donors and taking money on the side as he did it.
Dating back to Sherrill, we know there were numerous pieces of shit, including RC Slocum, on his staffs. Some of that shit is comical.
Slocum is celebrated today due to nostalgia, but he was Sherrill’s bagman and ran the fedex program. He was fucking his secretary and had his wife confront him about it on the practice field. His teams were busted cheating multiple times and had tv and bowl bans put on them.
Then you have the dream team of dirtbags under the Fisher regime. That group was historic.
Now The Elk hires guys like Trooper Taylor and his murdering son, the hazing enthusiast for the OL from NW and I am sure others I am forgetting.
It’s not the coach, it’s the org. TAMU football needs a veneer of oily, odiferous filth layered over it or it cannot feel whole.

Throwing red meat on a Thursday: Nahlin said a while back that he expects Conner to win the RT job over Cam.
(ducks)
The further and further that moron gets from anyone actually able to do evaluations or get good insights, the more idiotic he’s going to appear. If Cam Williams doesn’t have the fight in him to push Conner to the bench, many, many people have been way off. Williams is considered to have Day 1 potential and Conner will be scrambling as a UFA.

Ideally, he'll be the "down the line" back up. I think he's better suited to tackle than guard - maybe his ideal spot is back up RT - but he can play four spots on the o-line and be solid at all of them.
My sincere hope is that he gets beat out for a starting spot because we've raised the floor past his level, but that he'll stick around. He should get plenty of playing time as the first man off the bench, and we don't want to lose an experienced player from the room.
I think the guy is soft and barely at replacement value. Fine as a backup, but if Texas is trotting him out there as a starter again, we’re overrating someone, whether that is Flood or his recruited players.

But when he says something about the state of things, it is wise to listen to him. That's all I'm saying. You don't have to agree with him. But you should listen.
He’s a cheater. Always has been. That inherently makes him a hypocrite. He’s just doing the predictable shit we said he would when NIL opened up. The game got more fierce and he didn’t have the financial wherewithal to continue winning a game that was now open. So he quit and begged everyone to help him figure out some way to out the toothpaste back in the tube.
You can shill for him all you like, but it’s going to fall on deaf ears. Fuck that guy and everything he represents.

Kind of funny to go back and read this thread from early-April of last year. The majority of the board had written us off before we had brought in a single player from the portal. Projections of 5-25 and missing the tournament.
What is funny about it to you? Do you lack the ability to grasp that people have opinions, as snapshots in time, that can change when new data is presented? Is it due to that that this wild concept called “learning” seems so amusing to you? Or is there some other comedy we’re all otherwise missing?
This kind of idiotic posting nonsense has been around since the dawn of the Internet. It’s always nauseating to witness someone coming up with the “gotcha!” notion like this and thinking they’re in uncharted waters. Get a fucking grip, you Pollyanna twit.

Pro and college are different. You can’t cheer for a pro team with your Texas goggles on. Mixon is a great pickup if you view it through football and production with this offense. Get another one in the draft and we will have great depth.
You have a lot of stupid takes on this site and this one is actually one of the dumbest. Punching a woman in the face is egregious. There’s no caveat. Going pro doesn’t wash it away. Equivocate further like that and you deserve to be negbombed.

I want to like the Texans. I've always wanted to like the Texans. Problem is, time and time again, they cannot get out of their own way. Winning or losing, how in the fuck do you make a move for Joe Mixon? He's a known piece of human shit and he's a sooner. Foreman is still unsigned, no? Henry just inked with the Ravens and was available. There were other options. The Texans can't help themselves.

we know that chris beard is a top tier coach. his resume stacks up with just about anyone ever through this point in his career. this ole miss team being this bad says nothing about beard as a coach, and everything about how shitty this program/job is. it may be the worst program in all of the power conferences. i imagine he’s itching to gtfo as soon as possible.
He’s already got a recipe for an exit if he wants it. Just take home an Oxford throw-down road whore, choke her and bite her for a bit and then let her drunkenly call the cops. He’ll be in Bloomington by mid-December.

The only time I ever rooted for Texas to lose at anything was in the second half of the KU game that Chuckles lost. Everything was so fucked at that point and the guy was coming back if he won that game, even if he lost to TCU the following week. Once it was obvious that Texas was truly at risk of losing to that clown program, I was like "Okay, fuck it then, pull the bookshelf on top of yourself, you fucking idiot" and I still felt dirty witnessing it.
So, to each their own, but I'm praying for a miracle and and something resembling a 9-9 conference finish.
Had it the whole way.

”Folks, I know we’ve got some tough decisions to make over the next few hours. Not everyone is going to be happy and some of you might wind up damned near upset. That said, we need to get to it. I just have one caveat that I think we can all agree to as we get underway - Texas A&M cannot make this tournament. I don’t like them and consider them a true threat to upend everything we hold dear if they make it in. “
”Hear! Hear!” shouts the exuberant crowd in unison.

Some dude posted a link to the weight differences from last year to this year over at OTF:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Bxb5zfOTGbuXkUCVIcAzAWYuA6fItA9O6VTsX9tutbU/edit?pli=1#gid=0
We have 4 guys at 360 or over. That's ridiculous. Sydir Mitchell is not a "good" 372. Sweat could have played with less weight too, so whatever.
Red at 240 is disturbing. They are going to have to change the name of Redcat to Redfat.

Typically knee sprains are month long injuries at minimum. But very minor tweaks can be pretty quick turnarounds. Also sometimes people like Disu are just built different. lol
Someone who would know indicated that it was a freakish kind of lockup with no further ramifications. Do they bench him for OU as a precaution? I can see it, but they're daring the selection committee if they lose to OU.

My 8th grader got into St. John's! The counselor told me about it last night, early, because he was excited to get him. The boy has been diagnosed with autism and is enduring his third straight year in public junior high of being called the "school retard" and being fucked with in general. He's had his lunch kit and drinking bottle, new versions each time, stolen from him 3 times in the past week. It's been hard for a kid who really loves school and learning but has no idea how to handle many human interactions. Anyway, he tested off the charts for private school and his grades are absurd, so he somehow overcame the interviewing process and got his #1 pick. My wife cried with happiness and relief.

I see that he assigns himself the handle aTm. Yeah. And a search wants me not to miss that he juked a white CB at some camp.
At some point, though, the culture becomes strong enough that you don't infect it, it extrudes out you.
It's getting to a point where, when considering OL, WR, TB, and QB, the logic should just be "who do you want?"
From that perspective, the only reason I would "want" someone with Marsh's baggage is because I believed that there was no one else like him. That's not the case on this one. Texas can sign a better group of 3-4 that does not include Marsh or Harris, and still win several key talents from the portal.
I say all of that and consider it likely, as part of this process, that some guys will also be gone after this spring or after the 2024 season at WR. Should be fine for all of us paying attention while others handwring because they were convinced that WR Guy was going to be a star and they take his exit personally.
