    ON KJ EDWARDS

Top100 prospect KJ Edwards hears from new Texas RB coach Chad Scott

    Hank South (Horns 247)

New Texas running backs coach Chad Scott reached out to four-star ball carrier KJ Edwards on Sunday to introduce himself. After the call the Carthage (Texas) product says his June 6-8 official visit to the Forty Acres is still on the schedule.

"He liked what he saw on my tape," Edwards told Horns247. "He considers me a triple-threat RB. I can run the ball, catch the ball, and block."

Recruits are getting to know the new Texas assistant, who had been at West Virginia since 2019.

"He sounds like he knows what he's doing at the RB position," Edwards said.

Baylor, SMU, and Texas A&M are also involved for Edwards along with Texas. All four programs are expected to host him for official visits.

"[Texas is] still one of my top schools as long as they reach out and communicate," Edwards said.

The in-state back says he's going to talk with Scott more about potentially visiting in the spring as well.

At 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, Edwards is ranked the No. 3 running back and the No. 51 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.

As a junior he rushed for 1,789 yards and 23 touchdowns, while catching 30 passes for 383 yards and three additional scores.

    ON CHRIS STEWART @Elmer_Fudd

Detailed note and posts from Scruggs below;  here's the net:

    - if Texas offers Stewart's DB bro, that will likely seal the deal for the them/Texas;  very unlikely that Texas will offer his bro

    - else, he may likely go w/ one of the (currently) 3 programs that have offered both of them - SMU, Arizona State, OKlahoma - likely SMU

Here's Stewart's official visit schedule in order: SMU (May 2-4), Miami (May 30-June 1), Arizona State (June 6-8), Texas (June 13-15), and Tennessee (June 20-22).

Stewart also told Horns247 that while he doesn't have dates quite yet, he is currently planning on taking an official visit to Norman at some point to see Oklahoma.

Here's Scruggs' full note on the Stewart recruitment.

Texas WR commit Chris Stewart has five official visits booked with a sixth in the works

    Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

Pearland Shadow Creek three-star wide receiver and Texas commit Chris Stewart has his official visit schedule locked in, he tells Horns247.

The 6-foot, 175 pounder has been pledged to Texas since June 25 when he became the second 2026 prospect to commit to the Longhorns following Dia Bell's pledge that went public eight days before on June 17.

But as time has passed since the commitment to Texas was made, Stewart has taken several unofficial visits elsewhere though he's still maintained his status as a Texas commit.

Before we get into it, it's also important to remember that Stewart's brother, Shadow Creek safety Carter Stewart, has experienced a recruiting rise in recent weeks and now holds 12 offers including scholarships from power four programs Arizona State, Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma, and SMU.

Horns247 previously dished on the storyline of Carter rising in the recruiting world and how it could affect Chris' Texas commitment over a month ago.

Here's what to know about each program on Stewart's schedule:

SMU (May 2-4): Carter will also be taking an official visit to University Park the same weekend as the Mustangs happen to be one of a handful of programs that have offered both brothers. SMU did an in-home visit with the family in late January. Current SMU QBs coach D'Eriq King who hails from nearby Manvel is involved in the recruitment amongst several other SMU staffers.

Miami (May 30-June 1): Both brothers visited Coral Gables when in town for a 7on7 tournament back in January, but Chris was the only brother to leave the visit with an offer from the Hurricanes. The OV in the summer will be the second time Chris has visited Miami, but with three other wide receiver prospects expected to be on campus the same weekend including huge names like Chris Henry Jr. and Ethan Feaster, I'm curious to hear about the feedback from this trip.

Arizona State (June 6-8): Carter will also be taking an official visit to Tempe the same weekend, as like SMU, the Sun Devils happen to be one of a handful of programs that have offered both brothers. The Sun Devils are an interesting program in the race with Houston area native Bryan Carrington being involved in both brothers' recruitments and ASU receivers coach Hines Ward being an intriguing coach/mentor as someone who's accomplished almost everything at the highest level of the sport. One of Kenny Dillingham's January recruiting stops included Shadow Creek where he met with both brothers, which is telling of how much the Sun Devils covet the Stewarts.

Texas (June 13-15): Though it could be described as a bit of a soft commitment with other schools having official visits booked on his calendar, Chris has remained pledged to the Longhorns since giving his commitment in June and while he's seen other campuses since the pledge was made, he's yet to show any true signs that he's considering flipping. A big reason for his Texas commitment revolved around the Texas QB situation and a five-star passer (Dia Bell) being in the same recruiting class, but the SEC appeal, proximity to home, and production of NFL receivers are other reasons for why Chris decided to pull the trigger and lock in a spot with the Longhorns before the start of his junior season. Although other schools have crept into the mix in recent months, all of the reasons why he committed to Texas have remained the same.

Tennessee (June 20-22): The Volunteers have a unique tie to this recruitment as Josh Heupel was good friends and college teammates with the brothers' uncle, Marcus Chretien, and the high flying offense in Knoxville is a passing attack that's always intrigued just about every wide receiver prospect. The Vols have yet to offer Carter as like Miami and Texas, this will be an official visit for only Chris. The trip will be the first time Chris has been in Knoxville and it's the last OV on the schedule before the summer dead period goes into effect. Although the Vols are without an Arch Manning level passer, they do have the nation's No. 1 overall prospect in quarterback Faizon Brandon committed and I'm sure that'll be part of their pitch to flip the Texas commit.

Oklahoma (Dates TBD): The Sooners are the third of three programs in this story that have offered both brothers, and like Tennessee, the Sooners have familial ties to the brothers with their uncle Marcus Chretien having played his college football in Norman after a two year stint at Kilgore (Junior) College in East Texas. Oklahoma was the first major power four program to throw their hat in the ring in Carter's recruitment back in January, and Chris has also gone on record about his affinity for CeeDee Lamb due to Lamb's playstyle and the fact that he also hails from the southern sector of Houston. I'd expect both brothers to officially visit Norman like they will Arizona State and SMU.

    To wrap it up —

There's a lot that could play out in this recruitment between now and early signing day in December and the brothers will have decisions to make in regard to playing together.

Carter is hoping to receive an offer from the burnt orange and if he does I'm under heavy assumption he'll end up in Austin with his brother Chris, but the Longhorns have yet to offer and I'm not sure if they will. After all, Carter camped at the June 1 Texas Elite camp this past summer so the Longhorns have been able to evaluate him in person at least once, and he's been alongside Chris on the half dozen or so visits that have been taken at Texas so it's clear that the Longhorns staff is well aware of him.

Texas has had a lot of movement in the safety room with the departures of Blake Gideon and now Terry Joseph, but with the recent offers that were sent out in January to in-state safeties Chace Calicut, Donovan Webb, and Aaron Bradshaw, I do think an offer would've come about by now if the Longhorns viewed Carter as a prospect Texas should be after. With a new safeties coach set to come into the fold in the future there's obviously still the chance an offer could go out to Carter later on, but it hasn't thus far so he's focused on the schools that are officially in the recruitment in the form of offers.

In speaking with sources around the Houston area I'm led to believe the brothers are still thinking things over as I'm told they haven't put their foot down and said they have to go to the same college. In what I've gathered I do think both scenarios of either sticking together or splitting up for college are still possible, but that decision will eventually have to be made once Carter gets closer to a commitment.

At this point neither scenario would surprise me because we've seen brothers decide to split up or team up once they get to college, but it does seem like more often than not brothers will end up sticking together to play at the college level.

Like I said earlier, everything that made Chris want to commit to Texas in the first place is still in the picture and has remained unchanged, but with Carter now holding power four offers that give the brothers the ability to team up at the next level, Chris and the rest of the family will eventually have to decide where playing together comes in on the priorities list.

I think I have Edwards in my early predicted list for this class. He's the kind of back that Sarkisian likes to have on the roster for utility work and STs. I assume they are able to land Cooper or the Bama guy and Edwards.

That info on Stewart confirms that he's not coming to Texas. It's odd to me that Texas seems to take an early commitment every year that ultimately has no business being on the commitment list (QBs excluded). They're going to sign a tier above Stewart for all 3-4 WR slots.

In Sydney's defense, I was being tongue-in-cheek when I brought up Akina. But it looks like all the wish-casting from oldheads has finally paid off.

That being said, I don't think this is a bad hire. We've got a young up-and-comer as the new CB coach and having a dude like Akina to mentor him for a couple of years is hardly a bad thing. Akina probably can't recruit anymore, but he can certainly still coach. It's not exactly a homerun hire but it still seems reasonable.

Personally, I'm whelmed. Happy for all the old dudes on here though.

I don't like the hire, personally. I like everything else this offseason, but the Akina hire is uninspiring. Here's hoping he's still got it, I guess.

All of those teams crave the perception of “momentum” in the recruiting cycle. Those are all paid unofficial visits without some other guys being serious about the recruitment.  Let’s see who gets the OVs.

When I look at the prospects list of possible schools they are interested in it appears  A&M is the outlier listed among blue bloods or successful programs. So my theory is they are using A&M’s offer as leverage bid to negotiate with programs they are really interested in.

Almost. It’s not the offer, it’s the fact that ATM will pay for every demand ahead of an actual signing right now.

-Pay a guy to unofficially visit and pay for his family? Sure

    -Pay for a commitment? Sure.

    -Pay for a visit? Sure.

    -Guarantee playing time? Sure.

-Bad mouth your own depth chart? Sure

-Pay a better number for a signing over Oregon, Texas, Ohio State or others? Uhh, maybe?

Based on what we've been told, or heavily hinted, soccer is the one thing CDC has not been able to touch.  Plonsky's last grasp in Bellmont - she lost Connie Clark, she lost Karen Aston/Gail Goestenkors. She has nothing left but Angela Kelly.

I think she would have been gone after this past fall but the ladies pulled out the conference title. She’s got to be hanging by a string.

    Yikes.

I haven't followed Clark since she moved on to the WNBA and I don't even want to know what she's done to inspire hatred.

Serious question - is Sheryl Swoopes actually rich?

I would like to add a RB who can score from anywhere on the field, a la Keilan Robinson or Blue. Those may be tough to find, however.

You should start a RB thread where you bawl all over the current depth chart and everyone can laugh at you as you do it.

Gerry has said RT NIL budget was 3.5ish million for this roster

    IMG_5777.jpeg

I understand Gerry’s position of being from Missouri as it pertains to Texas taking basketball seriously. That’s a legitimate position.

That said, there are multiple reasons why Texas will take basketball very seriously with the right hire. It needs to be someone who energizes everyone - the admin, the fans and the money, as Beard was doing.

The admin needs and wants men’s basketball to be top ten like every other sport besides women’s soccer. It’s a money sport. It’s high visibility and impacts the school’s brand.

The money guys want to back a winner. They spared nothing for Beard. They’re not going to let a couple million dollars be the gap that prevents title contention. Know-nothings will now point to the Toppin “recruitment” as evidence otherwise. I’m too bored with that canard to do anything but be dismissive.

The fans were coming when Beard was at Texas. They show up for WBB. They’ll show up for a men’s program that isn’t boring generally and just putrid, at times, to watch.
